BBC News - Nicola Bulley: Partner describes perpetual hell over missing mum
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-64450243

Just been reading about this. How awful for her partner and children. Really hope she is found soon

That’s speculation then with potentially zero basis in fact - unless the friend claims to be with him and saw the CCTV to be fully functional.

I am not disparaging the partner here - just pointing out how unhelpful rumours and speculation arise.

There are lots of things in the newspapers that the police haven't said in the press conferences. If people were only going to discuss what information the police have said, this thread would be very short.

madeyemoody · 04/02/2023 15:58

@User45378754 thanks and I agree, it's so hard as their is actually very little information isn't there. The police don't have much they are able to give to the public which is what makes this so tragic and hard to understand. Humans deal in facts and it's very hard to accept a woman who was seen by three different people managed to disappear in a 10 minute window. It's horrible to not have more information. How the family will ever make peace with this if she is never found doesn't bear thinking about.

Bluekerfuffle · 04/02/2023 16:01

What does it matter whether there was cctv at home or where her partner was. Nicola was seen by various people on her own with the dog, her partner was not seen with her.

I disagree.

Its how you present it which important in order to be transparent and not inadvertently misleading or passing on speculation, gossip, false info.

Sources should be declared as facts if from the horses mouth - ie attributed to police - or caveated with IMO or asked as a question rather than stated as fact. And that includes media and family and friends who may be communicating subjective opinions.

The coverage of this case has been particularly problematic and has taken some time to understand a timeline and even if the witnesses on the scene are reliable with their recall.

'What does it matter whether there was cctv at home or where her partner was. Nicola was seen by various people on her own with the dog, her partner was not seen with her.'

I think it is very important actually, just like all of the other scenarios. There was plenty of time where she wasn't seen though from last known sighting to when she was discovered as missing, anything could have happened in that time. I would imagine if you were to do something to someone you'd make sure you weren't seen with them in the lead up. I'm sure her poor partner is innocent, but the police will have had to consider all theories.

ofwarren · 04/02/2023 16:18

I'm not sure on how true it is but a woman on our local Facebook page has just said there are police tents and drones at Knott End jetty right now.
This is where the Wyre runs into the Irish Sea, near Fleetwood.

It could be just the drones?

The timeline is endless really - she was last seen at 9:10 - phone registered at 9:20 (doesn’t mean she was there) - police / partner either not called or not on the scene until 10:30/10:50 (have the police confirmed this bit?) - plenty of time nearly 2hrs to get her out of the area or for her to leave the area…..or remain hidden within it.

AmillionReasons · 04/02/2023 16:30

Exactly @User45378754 there is far too much unaccounted time. I'm sure the police have pulled apart the partner's body language/choice of words during the interview, whether anybody saw him leave the house, any arguments/issues etc. They will have investigated all theories IMO and won't have disclosed all information to the public. I just hope they find her for the family's sake. This much be utterly unimaginable hell.

AmillionReasons · 04/02/2023 16:32

And they will still be investigating all theories as well I forgot to add.

Sounds like she went into the water if the fitbit hasn't been synced doesn't it

Exactly. In police statement they were suggesting this 10 minute window where NB cannot be accounted for. From what I gather this is simply the time between the last witness sighting (9.10am) and the phone signal (9.20am) data showed phone was located near bench. Phone/ Willow was found around 9.30am. So I don’t get the 10 minutes thing, doesn’t really mean anything. She went missing between 9.10 and 9.30, surely?

IMO there were other anomalies in police statement… and I’m paraphrasing:

All abandoned buildings within a 1km radius have been searched- What about none abandoned buildings. (Obviously warrants would be needed, but giving this as a reason why she hasn’t been taken seems ludicrous.) - and what about buildings more than 1km out?

There’s no way she has left the river area- IMO there’s absolutely no way of confirming this in such a rural area.

All CCTV has been checked- so they’ve accounted for and questioned every vehicle leaving the area within the 2 hour time frame? Doubt it. What about since then or if say she was in the boot of a car? I just don’t see how it can be ruled out.

Locked gates thing- as PP have said this seems fairly obvious that gates can be unlocked.

Still area not covered by CCTV. So again no way of ruling out she didn’t leave river area so how can you say it.

Asked how deep river is- answer was various depths, but what about in the immediate vicinity of the bench where she would most likely have fallen.

I’m really wouldn’t be surprised if the family aren’t happy. Although we may not know everything.

No it doesn't. My Fitbit has to be synced manually with my phone.

I don't know how they work so could you just explain?
What does it mean if it's not synced?

Renoir56 · 04/02/2023 16:58

Ofwarren with my Fitbit I need to go into the app on my phone and press sync. May not be the same for all models though and probably different if the Fitbit has gps

@RelativePitch my spaniel would not follow me into a puddle! I think she’s broken, she has never gone into water in 8 years!

She was last seen at 9:10, the dog and phone were found at 9:35, so not that long.

Also no one saw the partner, on his own or with her. As he also regularly walks the dog I’m sure the same people that saw and recognised her would recognise him, so unlikely he dashed up there and was suddenly in the vicinity.

I'm guessing that if your fitbit was in water, it would stop syncing?

Same as mine. I’ve got a springer and he’s afraid of water. He avoids puddles and if he has to go through them he jumps over them. No way would he go into the river or canal for me.

obviously, or run out of battery too

mumyes · 04/02/2023 18:33

Just bizarre...the police I mean.

It's starting to really feel like they are almost stringing this out in a really weird way...

I seriously hope they are much cleverer than it seems...I'm sure they are...

Northernlurker · 04/02/2023 18:39

The police can't find a woman in a yellow coat with a pushchair in a village? This is just more than a bit weird now
