BBC News - Nicola Bulley: Partner describes perpetual hell over missing mum
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-64450243

Just been reading about this. How awful for her partner and children. Really hope she is found soon

I'd assumed she'd gone into the river but it was low tide at 9.30, just after she was last seen and it seems unusual that she wouldn't have been seen before the tide came back in. I hope she is missing if her own accord and returns home.

notacooldad · 30/01/2023 23:43

I saw this on the news earlier. I don't understand how this is the first we're hearing of it when she went missing on Friday.
I've known about it since Friday. Weve been talking about it at work during the weekend.

One article said she was on a conference call? If that’s right wouldn't someone have heard something? Or the fact that the phone and dog lead and harness were on the bench, maybe the dog had gone in the water and got stuck/trapped and she went in to free him. Thereby freeing the dog but getting stuck herself. Is that possible?

That does seem possible. It can happen that people get into trouble trying to save a dog that then manages to scramble out.
Terrible for her family to be waiting, two little girls, heartbreaking.
I hope she is found soon.

CharlotteRose90 · 30/01/2023 23:59

It’s awful I feel for her partner and children. I hope she is found soon so the family can grieve in peace. Horrible horrible world we live in. I’m local so it’s been covered everywhere here.

madeyemoody · 31/01/2023 00:01

I don't know how they can possibly exclude someone being involved in her going missing. To report with such certainty is very odd because how can they possibly know that from what they've found?! So if they are sure she's not a victim of crime then they have narrowed the possibilities down to two things, taking her own life or drowned/accident involving the river. The chances of her being okay with the information they have given seem low. I hope the poor family find answers ASAP. Must be torture.

yodayoga1 · 31/01/2023 00:08

It's heartbreaking but there's no way this will have a happy ending. Poor woman and poor family.

arghtriffid · 31/01/2023 00:12

Poor woman and family. I hope she is found soon alive and well.

Something very odd. Why if the dog had got stuck was the collar on the bench?

housemaus · 31/01/2023 00:17

I drove past near where she went missing on Friday afternoon and thought it was odd there were coastguard vans and a ton of police officers around then - this explained it. Good to see they had people out looking so quickly, and I really hope she's found safely.

Underminer · 31/01/2023 00:18

This is so sad. There is an interesting Websleuths thread on this. It seems her Strava and FB was set to public and she made that walk by the river on many occasions. Even if there is no foul play here, please check if you use Social Media your privacy settings for location information

I’ve said the same, poor poor woman. The phone was on a bench and she had attached the house key to her dogs lead or collar. It’s heartbreaking. I hope they find her soon and bring her home.

madeyemoody · 31/01/2023 00:48

@Underminer just read some of that thread and it was posted she attached her house key to her dogs collar? So is the presumption then that she has in fact taken her own life!? There are quite a few red flags about the encounter or possibly misinformation. The phone in one report was found on a bench by the river still on a teams call and then another report it was found on a bench in the village, still on a teams call.

The fact she left a teams chat open whilst on a call and this is not being classed as foul play is confusing for me.

Underminer · 31/01/2023 00:52

It’s very strange isn’t it @madeyemoody I wouldn’t attach keys to a dog collar in case they came off, but maybe it is something she did to save carrying them?

itsnote · 31/01/2023 00:53

@madeyemoody I don't know about the house key. Not heard that before but the bench was by the river which runs through the village. She walked the dog the same route every day at the same time.

It's across some fields and around the edge of the river where it meanders but only minutes off the main road.

RLScott · 31/01/2023 01:22

Your heart goes out to her poor family. Nothing much worse than a missing family member. Her family are going through hell so hopefully there’s some news imminently for them.

WimpoleHat · 31/01/2023 08:13

I’ve just caught up with this news - how awful. I hope she’s found safely soon, although I know that’s looking more and more unlikely. Why have they been so quick to rule out foul play?

Wasteofmoneyornot · 31/01/2023 08:31

Not looking good for a safe happy ending
Bless this poor woman and her family
Hopefully she is found soon

itsnote · 31/01/2023 09:43

Local people are out looking for her but the search poster says to never walk alone so who knows what's gone on.

She's the second missing person I know locally that was last seen by a tidal river in the past month or so. Similar happened in Cumbria last year to someone walking his dog in the early hours. The waterways look so peaceful but they're very dangerous.

That won’t be because of anything sinister but pure safety advice.

always a good idea to search in pairs or teams
then if anything happens like one trips and breaks an ankle, or you do find an injured person, someone can call for help/administer first aid.

no point having to stretch emergency services further when someone goes out to search alone and doesn’t come home when planned.

itsnote · 31/01/2023 11:31

That's true @Cileymyrus but we're talking greens and pathways in a village here. Not up a mountain. I know the area and it's just a path and a field next to pubs/schools/shops.

Never walk alone is a bit much, you'll see people along there alone all of the time.

ImprobablePuffin · 31/01/2023 12:01

Such a strange story and so sad for the family. I also think it's strange that she was in the middle of a teams call - I've been wondering if any colleagues on the call heard anything or if Nikki said something like 'be right back the dogs in trouble' or similar.

Fernticket · 31/01/2023 12:05

Hope she is found soon. Hopefully safe and well.

GoingOnce · 31/01/2023 12:42

Everyone on the call will have been asked that question by now.

SilhouetteOfAHead · 31/01/2023 13:04

I'm also local to this. For those who haven't heard of the case, it's been very much at the forefront of the news in this area.

If she has had some sort of accident, and ended up in the water, then it still might be a few days before anything washes up, probably off the coast at Fleetwood. But like everyone else, I hope she is found safe, but it looks increasingly unlikely. Either way, I hope she is found soon, the not knowing must be horrific for her family and friends.

Pretty sure the police will have interviews those who were on the call.

JacquotteDelahaye · 31/01/2023 13:43

It was work I believe that contacted the police because of the finder of the phone and dog picking up the phone and it still being connected. It seems highly unlikely she took her own life whilst with her dog. Whatever the circumstances the dog still being there points to it being the last place the dog saw her. Incredibly sad.
