She was only 73. Huge part of my teen years. So sad.

Aww. That is sad.

LilyMumsnet · 08/08/2022 21:34

Hi all

We're just going to move this over to in the news, as we think that's a better place.

What does it matter where it's posted?

RIP Olivia.

LizzieSiddal · 08/08/2022 21:35

I was a teenager when Greece came out and absolutely loved that film and especially her! She’s a fabulous singer, actress and from what I’ve seen in interviews a wonderful human being. RIP Olivia.x

Oh no, I'm genuinely shocked and sad to read that. Like other PP I remember 9 year old me sitting on a low wall at school with my friends with our smash hits lyrics, warbling summer na-hi-ights

i loved xanadu even though many panned it it was a lovelt film watch it if you can

MeOldBamboo · 08/08/2022 21:45

This is such sad news. A real heroine of mine. A rare pure talent. What a voice.

Arnaquer · 08/08/2022 21:45

Oh Sandy I'm in misery. So very sad

curlymom · 08/08/2022 21:46

Really upsetting. She did so much to keep ladies positive about dealing with breast cancer. Rest in peace

JaneJeffer · 08/08/2022 21:49

Sad. Her version of Take Me Home Country Roads is one of the first songs I remember listening to as a little child.

Too young.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 08/08/2022 21:51

I am now blasting Xanadu full volume. Love me a bit of ONJ/ELO.

Exactly…people need to sort their heads out!! I am feeling so sad about a beautiful person who really impacted my teenage years ! I went to see Grease in the west end a few weeks ago and it was fabulous.

SundayTeatime · 08/08/2022 22:06

It’s very sad, but not a surprise at all. What a lovely woman.

She and John Travolta were a lot older than their film roles in Grease, but it is nonetheless shocking to hear that a figure in our childhood has gone, whatever we thought of her or him at the time or at any point since.

What a bizarre comment.

mrshoho · 08/08/2022 23:05

A beautiful woman inside and out. Played a big part in my childhood. We all dreamed of being her. Rest In Everlasting Peace. I lost my Mum this year and never normally feel emotional about celebrities but I'm so tearful thinking about her and reminiscing.

Clawdy · 08/08/2022 23:15

What a lovely tribute from John T.

Gutted, even though it’s no surprise. I grew up with her music and still listen regularly. Truly one of a kind. Crystal clear voice, no need for electronics. Beautiful, natural, talented lady. RIP

elkiedee · 08/08/2022 23:38

Why bizarre? Badly worded maybe. I'm not a big fan and only watched Grease years after everyone else my age (now early 50s) saw it. I do find her quite interesting but don't know that much about her, and I'm sad she's died but I can't claim that she had a big impact on my childhood or teenage years. But now I really want to play Summer Nights really loudly and am only not doing to because I'm not at home and I don't want to disturb family who have kindly offered to put us up for a cheap break near the sea.

elkiedee · 08/08/2022 23:42

My comment might have been badly phrased, but I think the fact that she was a teen icon in her 30s, playing a teenager, has an impact on how I feel about her death. She's 20 years older than me. I was 7 or 8 when Grease came out and it was very popular with children younger than me, and perhaps with pre teens not actual teenagers.

I’m struggling to see the point of your posts tbh.

LetHimHaveIt · 08/08/2022 23:52

Try as I might, I cannot see why a person playing younger than their years in a film, might materially affect how I felt about their death forty five years later . . .

She wasn't in her 30s when she made 'Grease', btw. She was 28 when she filmed it; Travolta was 23.

EachandEveryone · 08/08/2022 23:52

What a beautiful woman. She seemed so nice. Poor John his wife died from the same bastard thing.
