I feel that the media is taking advantage of the mother and Archie now.

They need to stop with these video interviews. They're just being mocked. Sad

Mennex · 03/08/2022 19:26

I think it's some kind of maladaptive 'fight or flight' response. You see it increasingly. Some people just go into automatic fight mode as a response to negative emotion without considering if it's appropriate or not.

That article was written in 2014 so not relevant and tbh I would have kicked up a fuss too if my child had sore eyes from a prescription gone wrong

In 1991 I had a sore mouth from a prescription gone wrong.

Funnily enough we managed to solve it with the media being involved and even if SM existed my sensible parents wouldn't have plastered me all over it.

itsgettingweird · 03/08/2022 19:27

Without the media being involved.

Soubriquet · 03/08/2022 19:28

In 1991 things weren’t so internet relied. It’s changed a lot since then.

I personally find some of the comments on this thread to be quite unkind to a woman in the process of losing her child. If it were me, I have a boy the same age, and I would have to go down every avenue to fight on his behalf just so "what if?" thoughts didn't haunt me for the rest of my life.

She's probably already feeling an enormous amount of guilt that he's in this situation - not that it's her fault at all - on top of the denial. It's all she can do now for him to fight his corner for any tiny chance 'just in case', because once it's done it's done, and can't be undone.

It's really sad that a child in Archie's situation is thought of as a "bed-blocker" wasting NHS resources.

I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy what that family are going through.

You have no idea what you’d do in that situation. It’s not helpful people saying “oh I’d do anything for my child”. It’s actually actively harmful to people who’ve made the difficult decision (and they’re on this thread!) and even for Archie’s family who will eventually have to be present while the ventilator is removed.

”Bed blocking” is an outdated term for people who are medically fit to leave hospital but there is no place yet available for them to go such as; a rehab placement. This is the opposite of Archie’s tragic current situation. The court has been ruling in Archie’s best interests which is a legal term and they would not have considered the impact of NHS equipment and resources. This would solely have been based on what is best for Archie and nobody else.

I’m sure the family are distraught and I would never comment negatively on them. I haven’t up
until now and I have nothing but sadness and sympathy for what they’re going through.

OpinionsUnseen · 03/08/2022 19:29

The other possibility, of course, is the move to Turkey/Japan or wherever. I do hope however that her lawyers won't even try that without even halfway credible supporting evidence, which we've heard nothing about so far. they would need to be able to provide care and transport though. This isn’t within the NHS remit as quack treatments which are unlicensed won’t be funded by the nhs.

So they could appeal for Archie to be released to them, but that would involve the disconnecting of the life support so would have the same outcome.

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 03/08/2022 19:30

Right so what now? I think the hospital should end this tonight.

Exactly what I said.

But there was absolutely no need to go public over a minor mistake.

He had a sore eye. It was sorted. Her only motivation would have been attention. There was no other better outcome that going to the press could achieve imo.

TheCountessOfGrantham · 03/08/2022 19:23

Just popped back to say I haven't read all of the previous threads but Hollie does have form for using the media to force a preferred outcome . There's a story about Archie getting very sore eyes from eye drops when he was four and the pharmacy apologising but the mum still taking it to the press, presumably for attention drawn to it and/or compensation.

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2774629/Boy-four-suffers-agonising-burns-Boots-pharmacy-gave-ear-drops-eye-infection.html

So perhaps she's very easily manipulated into whatever her Facebook group/army want her to do AND is the sort of person who thinks media attention will get her what she wants.

Its a chilling reminder that none of us know what's round the corner . At the time of the eye drops incident Hollie was blissfully unaware of the far worse tragedy to come.

I've just given my reluctant teen DS a big smacker on the cheek and told him I love him.
My heart goes out to Hollie. I think she is batshit, but this is her child.

TiddyTidTwo · 03/08/2022 19:33

I agree. The hospital has gone above and beyond and delayed nearly 3 days now. They didn't need to do that.

They've given the parents every chance and extra time to say goodbye but nothing is changing and nothing will change.

ECHR acted incredibly quickly and they've done what they are there for. Upholding Archie's human rights. The evidence is overwhelming.

Me too. It says it wasn't the first time they'd made the same mistake so I think it was good to alert people. It isn't anything like what is happening now.

Would you have done a 'sad face' for the local press?

Maerchentante · 03/08/2022 19:34

It is a desparately sad situation and not an easy decision to switch off life support.

However, I get the feeling "Archie's Best Interest" has fallen by the wayside a while ago.
The family should say their goodbyes to Archie and then "let him go". Dragging this through the courts any further does not give Archie any dignity.

If I write what I really think about the "Army" and their whipping up of the family, my post will get deleted. The sooner these people stop interfering, the better.

The same mistake had happened before. It alerted other parents to the issue. Dragging up irrelevant things from the past isn't necessary.

Agreed. No more deadlines to do x or y, because they know that’s exactly what will happen.

The hospital have already said tat he can’t be moved, so that avenue is closed. And unless a credible doctor is going to provide evidence of credible treatment to reverse brain death the courts won’t even give a request to move him abroad the time of day.

The life support was supposed to be withdrawn on Monday. They’ve had notice that it would be done. It needs to be done now.

Its nearly 4 months since he committed suicide and he's still there in hospital but not alive. I find that shocking to be honest

OpinionsUnseen · 03/08/2022 19:38

Are people actually angling for the thread to be pulled now? Because that is what is going to happen if people keep speculating and dragging up the past.

bellac11 · 03/08/2022 19:42

Just a comment in respect of something someone said earlier, about her being represented by lawyers, I think it was said on the post as if the things she is applying for are valid because she has a lawyer and the implication is that she has respectable legal advice

I thought I read somewhere that her lawyers are either not qualified or one of them is on the verge of being disbarred, or there is some controversy about his practice

I think we see it increasingly, because the press and SM are highlighting these people, sadly as click bait and for the morbid curiosity of others

i don’t think it’s coincidence that all the parents who have had these very public fights with hospitals are relatively uneducated, clearly have no scientific background and are easily whipped up into a frenzy when they are promised the moon on a stick by ‘the army’ and have no critical thinking abilities to assess the situation

They are sadly being manipulated for what boils down to little more than morbid entertainment for others

we are all using it as an opportunity to hug ours kids extra tight and think ‘there but for the Grace… and remind ourselves how lucky we are

They aren't very reputable. No. Let's let the thread wind down. No point raking over points discussed previously. All that can be done is to hope Archie is afforded a peaceful end. And that his mother and family are supported.

fizzywat · 03/08/2022 19:47

I really hope that if further support is withdrawn, that the media and the mother do not turn the inevitable outcome into a reporting frenzy and a blame game of any sort.

Let us hope the end and the aftermath are peaceful, private, and dignified for all.

itsgettingweird · 03/08/2022 19:48

Would you have done a 'sad face' for the local press?

Most people wouldn't or that's what would be in our papers daily!

People always say they'd do something but when questioned most have also even the victims of a mistake and never even considered going viral with it at the time.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 03/08/2022 19:50

There is a report that the family are going back to court to try to get Archie moved overseas for treatment.

Agree totally.

I hope ms dance is with her beloved child and gets to lay in the bed with him and hold in in her arms as the hospital wrote.
