I don’t know if anyone can help me, or I’m beyond help, in the last 24 hours this nuclear strike Russia and threatening the U.K. with if we supply more arms to Ukraine and at the same time liz truss states we will double down on more and harder weapons to Ukraine and Boris then chimes in any retaliation we will equally hit with our own, I am current sat on my bathroom floor crying because I can’t cope with the thought of nuclear war and what that means for me and my children, I don’t know what to do, how to cope if anyone could please help

It is a scary situation but ultimately no one, not even Putin wants a nuclear war. It's all talk to try and scare people out of getting involved.

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 08:02

I really really hope your right, however once he threatens it we then do it anyone o feel like he will have no choice otherwise everyone will send more help and then he’s completely lost! I used to think he wouldn’t be so stupid to want nuclear war, however I’m now starting to think he ha no choice, I’m sat here worrying if I drop my kids off to school this morning is this the last time I will see them, or will I get to see my husband tonight! I just don’t know what to do!

I hope you’re ok

I’m listening to Truss talk about being risk takers and the idea NATO will take all of Ukraine back. Clear, bold statements as someone else said. I don’t like the sound of it but waiting to hear what other experts say

LethargeMarg · 28/04/2022 08:09

You can't control this so you need to try to rationalise it. Putin is in a very weak position he's backed into a corner and got to say something to keep up appearances but there is not just one bloke poised with his finger over the button. This has been going on for a few months and is likely to continue for a while . Remember everything you should be grateful for and the key one being you are not in the Ukraine genuinely in danger you are in a hypothetical situation .

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 08:10

She’s making it worse! I can’t even begin to be able to understand how Ukraine feels, but what does she not understand about doing what she is doing and pulling in nato, there will be no Europe let to fight for!

OP posts:
Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 08:13

I would love to think that’s the case, and his people wouldn’t do it for the realisation of MAD, but I think either send something to the uk if we do send more help as I will do to the rest
or the world, whilst we are all suffering from radiation poisoning if we wernt in the blast zone, and the rest may back down or ww3 and the scenario comes out as the same,

OP posts:
boronia · 28/04/2022 08:18

I hope you're ok OP.
We have no control over what happens which is why it's so frightening.
My only comfort is that if Putin does something this drastic the entire rest of the world would unite to overthrow him and probably obliterate him and a large part of his country.

boronia · 28/04/2022 08:20

Needless to say, I pray it doesn't come to this but we need to have hope that there's a lot happening behind the scenes we don't know about.

ZenNudist · 28/04/2022 08:25

Are you very young? We have been living under threats forever. Cold War then terrorism mainly. IRA bad enough but the whol Islamic Jihad thing next level awful. I live in Manchester so we've bombed twice in my memory. That's before you get into all the other awfulness that can befall.

There are a lot of things that can kill you. Can't sit on the floor crying about it. I am very sorry you are suffering. Could you seek medical help for anxiety?

In the meantime stop reading the news!

FindingMeno · 28/04/2022 08:26

Action is always good.
I'm expecting great numbers of people to become involved in anti nuclear campaigns, and perhaps doing something will help you.

Mirrorball2022 · 28/04/2022 08:27

I have anxiety, so stopped reading the news as much. I also realised this is out of my hands. I can’t control it and I can’t do anything if it happens. It’s not that I don’t care I of course do. But my worrying and anxiety over it won’t change it so I’m better for my own well-being not reading about it.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 28/04/2022 08:34

I think, reading between the lines, he's on about other retaliations than nuclear. It'll be stuff like (more) rocket strikes in Ukraine and cyber attacks elsewhere. And more economic actions like cutting off the gas supplies to EU countries.

Truss is posturing, partly because rhetorical bombast seems to be part of the game here, and partly because she's sniffing an imminent Tory leadership contest and reckons that looking strong and serious on foreign policy will be her best defence against Jeremy Hunt.

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 08:35

Yes I’m only 30 so wasn’t alive during the missile crisis or anything like that, so I have never had to experience this kind of behaviour, however I feel it is never been this bad!
I have anxiety disorder anyway and usually all the worry is in my head and I always think of the worst and usually never comes true, however this time this isn’t in my head, this is real and I let’s not just me it’s my kids too, I know none of you know the answer or can magic away my worries, I just see everyone else seems like life’s normal and I can’t understand why everyone isn’t feeling like I am

OP posts:
Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 08:38

He has said anyone interfering in Ukraine or sending more weapons will see A lightning response and they have all the weapons to do so already and they are not boasting they will use them and then some other thing about the uk because some bloke said it was ok for Ukraine to use British weapons to attack russia

Read this back to yourself.

This level of anxiety over something that is completely outside of your control isn't normal. The reason most people appear unbothered is because most people don't have anxiety disorder, and aren't wandering about preoccupied by something they have no control over.

Are you getting treatment or taking medication for your anxiety? Even if you are, it sounds to me very much like you really need some sort of extra support or meds to get you through this. Can you phone a GP/CPN and explain you're finding it extra-difficult right now?

onanotherday · 28/04/2022 08:54

OP💐It is an anxious time and listening to tbe news will feed that anxiety. Can you avoid watching/listening? Or just once a week catch up?

I am much older and have been through many scary international incidents, but found the pandemic floored me...I had to stop watching back to back news and gradually my anxiety dropped.

As for Truss, she is thinking more about her career and wants the top job.

Putin is weak and needs to appear strong, I would wager there are wheels in motion for him to step down from this whilst saving face...he is not going to press a button with half his own family in tbe US and Europe...and I'm sure he would be prevented by those inside the Kremlin.
A Box set, sewing bee, anything that takes you away from the news will help.

Im 58. This is way worse than anything l remember. People are constantly saying it’s the most dangerous time since WW2 and much more severe than the Bay of Pigs.

Step1234 · 28/04/2022 09:09

Just don't read the news. You can't affect any of it so what's the point in worrying?

Aposterhasnoname · 28/04/2022 09:10

Every single word Truss said will have been checked and approved by people far more in the know about what is going on than we are. British intelligence is among the best in the world. They know exactly what they are doing. Russia is one of the most corrupt countries in the world, the reason their army is failing so badly is that money meant to maintain and improve weapons has been stolen. If they’ve stolen that much meant to maintain conventional weapons that are likely to be used, imagine what they’ve done to money meant for nuclear weapons that they don’t expect to ever be used. I’ll be surprised if they even work.

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 09:37

This is it isn’t it, My brain doesn’t work to just go “what I can’t control I’m not going to worry about” that thinking I completely admire because I have never been or will be that person!

This is what I don’t understand, I feel like the uk and poking the bear because Putin sees everything We are saying and he will act
upon it, although what I can’t fathom is why we would all risk WW3 instead of coming up with some sort of agreement in everyone’s benefit.

whats even worse is the best case scenario is my head is that I lived in London because I would be in the blast zone and it would be quick,
I don’t and would be on the long suffering thermal radiation bit, and all I can’t think about it having to watch my kids suffer until we all die know that sounds extremely cheerful 😳, but I don’t have anyone to talk to about how I’m feeling at the moment and I just don’t know what to do because in my head I’m sat here and every plane i hear is tipping me over the edge! 😭😭

l wish l believed this. But this government have no tradition of checking or even saying sensible stuff.

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 11:38

Pretty much the same thing just came out of Ben Wallace’s mouth, and he said we are going to help Ukraine push russia out! Fantastic! That’s us well and truly gone!

OP posts:
NotDavidTennant · 28/04/2022 11:50

People were saying the kind of things you are two months ago when the war started. That we were about to enter WW3 and be nuked by Russia. And two months later we haven't been nuked and no sign we are imminently about to be nuked.

At some point you have to realise that the angry words coming from both sides are just that: words. No-one is going to enter nuclear war lightly.

Hbh17 · 28/04/2022 11:54

This is about managing your mental health, because most people accept that there is no point in worrying about things we can't control. We're all going to die sometime, so it's just not worth a second thought. Maybe you should seek some professional support.
