I don’t know if anyone can help me, or I’m beyond help, in the last 24 hours this nuclear strike Russia and threatening the U.K. with if we supply more arms to Ukraine and at the same time liz truss states we will double down on more and harder weapons to Ukraine and Boris then chimes in any retaliation we will equally hit with our own, I am current sat on my bathroom floor crying because I can’t cope with the thought of nuclear war and what that means for me and my children, I don’t know what to do, how to cope if anyone could please help

Op your fear & anxiety is driven from a place of ignorance (not in a mean way).
Read up, watch vlogs etc on geopolitics, the ongoing decline of Russia, the realities of tactical Nuke use & western strategic ICBM defense etc, and you won't feel like this.

Yes, because if the population centres, industrial capacity, and significant military bases and ports are annihilated, then all that remains is farms, tundra, and a few isolated towns in the middle of Siberia.

Good luck remaining a global pariah and chucking your military weight around when what's left of your nation has a GNP equivalent to that of Chad, you have no military or industrial capacity, and a large proportion of your population has been vaporised.

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 14:36

Wow! At what part is this not rational to what
going to happen?

You have said yourself that you see everyone else walking around as if they don't have a single care in the world, despite all of what is going on and how much of an effect it's having on you.

The reason they can be like this is because they are rational, and you are not because your anxiety has completely overwhelmed your ability to keep things in perspective.

You need help OP, and I'm saying that in the gentlest possible way, and not intending to insult you by stating it.

Well Biden has just signed off on $33bn in humanitarian aid for the next 5 months. As above not the actions of a man who thinks Ukraine, never mind the whole world, is about to be blown to smithereens by a nuke.

SammyScrounge · 28/04/2022 17:01

FindingMeno · 28/04/2022 08:26

Action is always good.
I'm expecting great numbers of people to become involved in anti nuclear campaigns, and perhaps doing something will help you.

Putin and his ilk would love us to disarm. Nuclear weapons have protected us for nearly 70 years. Trust them.

FindingMeno · 28/04/2022 18:33

@SammyScrounge I think given the situation we are in, nuclear weapons clearly don't protect us.
Wars have raged across the globe since nuclear weapons were used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
This war in Ukraine would have ended already if the world wasn't painfully aware of the nuclear capacity of Russia with Putin in charge.

Heyheyitsanotherday · 28/04/2022 18:41

Hi op. I sympathise entirely as I have felt and to some extent do still feel the same. But I know it’s not rational and I’ve gotten help via the gp. (I also felt that what ever they do won’t work in time before Wer annihilated but it’s worth a shot right?) Seriously, we are not thinking rationally and seeking help is the only way. I did it for the sake of my children as I was ratty and short tempered or on the verge of tears because I’m so scared. Please speak to someone. It’s miserable feeling like this.

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 19:33

@Heyheyitsanotherday Thanks for the support, it’s nice to hear it isn’t just me feeling this way, that other mums are also feeling like this too! Not that I wish you too feel like this at all, however makes me feel a little less crazy and a little less lonely! I have tried to send a pm request to ask something about your personal journey.

No problem. It’s not come
through yet but will reply when it does. Hang in there 💕 it is truely awful.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Seriously. This lady is stressed and your feeding it Read the room!!!!!!!

Viviennemary · 28/04/2022 20:04

It is worrying. But Putin is all hot air and bluff. The people around him wont let him press the nuclear button. They have families too and don't want to die. That's my take. Rumour is he is very ill and his days are numbered.

whenwillthemadnessend · 28/04/2022 20:06

I was very anxious too we have just started living normally from covid and now this.

Putin is a test of the highest order

I'm only reading news from bbc occasionally and I find five 5 a good source rather than tv as no pictures

I have been listening to Jane Austin on audible and also watching downton Abby from scratch. Nice and comforting.

Please seek help for anxiety tho. It will benefit you long term anyway. Xx

whenwillthemadnessend · 28/04/2022 20:07

5 live I'm meant on radio

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/04/2022 20:11

I’m anxious about it too! I’m allowed to vent my fears🤷🏼‍♀️

Autumnwater · 28/04/2022 20:24

I felt the same. I was barely able to function for a good 2-3 weeks at the start I genuinely went into an anxiety attack I think, luckily I was working on my own in the office as I would be refreshing the news every 10mins or so, panic I would miss some big story while I Drove 50mins back from the office. I hated the days I had to go in because that meant I was an hour away from home, I panicked my partner would be conscripted and thought about him having to fight. Looking back I can see how irrational I was.

I could see it was causing issues in my life i was distant etc, I ordered high strength CBD oil, I turned off the news on tv and radio when anything came on (found it easier to read rather than view/hear about it) I stopped looking on websites which are inflammatory (looking at you daily Mail and twitter) and slowly over the next few weeks I got better and I’m in an ok place. Even with all the bluster that has been coming out of peoples mouths of late. Yes I still check the news regularly (more than most maybe still) I feel more content knowing what is happening, maybe the slowing down of the news updates as helped too. Honestly get help you sound like you need it (in the least horrible way) hopefully you come out the other side.

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 20:34

im Going to try and be rational here, and sorry if anyone thinks this is stupid to ask.

if russia do send a Nuke to the uk Which scenario do you see playing out

A) they send the biggest one a Tsar and that wipes out London and major radiation fall out

B) they send lots of wipe out all of uk

c) they go for military targets to start with and use smaller attacks

d) they maybe fire one into the sea near to send a warning

even if not any of these, do you see a de escalation somehow

like say russia sent a small Nuke and we retaliated in kind.. and then we all sat back and though hold up everyone will do! maybe let’s calm this down? Obviously not in the way but you get the point.

Afroginapond · 28/04/2022 20:34

We're dealing with a nation whose security services can't even stage a fake assassination plot properly.

I think you can put your trust in the UK and US intelligence agencies over Russian agents who appear not to be able to understand the difference between planting The Sims 3 PC game and 3 SIM cards, plus the addition of some green party wigs and a letter with the Russian phrase "signature unclear," rather than an actual signature. We're not dealing with the worlds most professional service here!😆

Nor is Putin sitting with a big red nuclear button at his desk, that he can hit to send missiles towards London just because Liz Truss says something which annoys him.

Seriously, try and get hold of your GP for help. I know it's difficult to be seen at the moment but while you are trying to seek treatment, maybe look at coping methods online e.g. Headspace app. Or just turn off the news, there's nothing you can do about it.

Honestly OP, no one can know that, not the military, security services, intelligence, nobody and it isn't the sort of speculation that will help your anxiety.

Scoobydoooo99 · 28/04/2022 20:58

@CPL593H yeah that’s true, I was trying to be positive in thinking the worst but then trying to make it not so end of the world and maybe we could come down from this,

@Autumnwater What CBD oil did you buy if you don't mind me asking? Cos I want it!

Gilesgoesformiles · 28/04/2022 21:31

Stop trying to rationalise and go and get help for your anxiety. Your behaviour isn’t normal. I’m not being mean.

if we stop and think about it everyone is terrified of nuclear war. But we can’t control it. Hell, if I am nuked tomorrow I’d have wanted to spend this evening enjoying my life and my relationships. If nuclear war breaks out we’re all essentially dead whether short or long and drawn out. But once you’re dead you won’t care. Just life your life well now whether that’s 10 minutes or 100 years more
