Baby denied treatment, my heart just broke 💔

I struggled to get to the end of this article. We're hearing so much about the plight of the poor Ukrainians at the moment, there are peoples who are also struggling just to physically access basic necessities. I can't imagine watching my baby die because the people enforcing apartheid (as stated by the United Nations) won't give me permission to travel to a hospital where she could be treated. I am heartbroken for this poor little girl and her parents, why aren't we protesting at her treatment, and the similar incidents mentioned here?

To be clear: there are many kind and decent Russian and Israeli people. My comments relate to the political regimes AND those who back them.

AKASammyScrounge · 01/04/2022 19:05

@BoredZelda

Why throw brickbats at Israel when Egypt is taking the same action?

Are you really trying to minimise Israel’s responsibility for what happens in Palestine?

Perhaps the Israelis take exception to terrorist activity on their streets.
MarineBlue33 · 01/04/2022 19:06

@Puzzledandpissedoff The Guardian is a reliable source. Their journalists check and recheck information. If you don't want to believe this article, well, that might say something about your political leanings

ilovesushi · 01/04/2022 19:10

Heartbreaking. So unnecessary and so cruel to delay her treatment.

RoastedFerret · 01/04/2022 19:16

@LBFseBrom

That's terrible, I feel heartbroken for the family. What can we do?
I'm interested in your answer to this OP? It goes without saying that it is awful that a little girl died but I'm really unclear as to you are proposing and why you are comparing it to Ukrainian refugees? It seems you are proposing a protest maybe but a protest for what exactly?
Crimesean · 01/04/2022 19:17

Yes, of course Israel is perfectly innocent in all this, and are only protecting themselves from terrorists... Hmm

ScreamingSauvignon · 01/04/2022 19:18

@SockFluffInTheBath

Because if you criticise the Israeli regime you’re branded anti-Semitic and told you don’t understand. There are charities providing medical care in Palestine (MAP etc) but it’s limited.
This. Sadly, this.

Then considering the number of "corrections/clarifications" they have to make I'd suggest they don't make a very good job of it: www.theguardian.com/theguardian/series/correctionsandclarifications

And far from being politically biased, what I'm interested in is truth - which I won't be looking for in the kind of heavily biased rags I mentioned

Guardian is obviously not the daily mail. I can't believe someone equated the two.

ReadtheFT · 01/04/2022 19:24

You are right, probably they are hiding the truth, the baby was in fact planning a terrorist attack! Lucky israel noticed and put a stop to that! Phew!
So hard to understand why those palestinians keep pushing back against an apartheid state where they are discriminated, killed, imprisoned, sent away from their homes, bombed....
No worries, focus on the Ukraine, yes... THEY have a right to defend themselves

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 01/04/2022 19:26

@ReadtheFT I don't think people would be very impressed if the Ukrainians started killing Russian civilians fwiw

ReadtheFT · 01/04/2022 19:28

Even if those civilians were taking their homes, their livehood? Killing and abusing them? Right lol

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 01/04/2022 19:29

@ReadtheFT You think every single one of the people killed two days ago was killing and abusing Palestinians? Ok then.

SockFluffInTheBath · 01/04/2022 19:30

Perhaps the Israelis take exception to terrorist activity on their streets.

If, say, Russia came along and took the British mainland from Edinburgh down and gave it to the Uighurs because they had a spiritual connection to Birmingham I think we would be fighting back too.

ReadtheFT · 01/04/2022 19:30

Read a bit about the situation then come back dear

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 01/04/2022 19:32

@SockFluffInTheBath I'd ask why the hell the Uighurs were so desperate for somewhere to live and be furious at China for kicking them out/genociding them, not angry at the Uighurs themselves

Coyoacan · 01/04/2022 19:36

Puzzledandpissedoff

The Guardian's editorial policy is normally very pro-Israeli

SockFluffInTheBath · 01/04/2022 19:37

@pucelleauxblanchesmains do you’d happily accept being annexed and losing everything because it’s not the Uighurs’ fault? And a few years later accept them helping themselves to Edinburgh, Stirling…

Zotter · 01/04/2022 19:38

On the difficult subject of Palestine and Israel I always find this heartfelt article by a young Israeli woman inspiring.

stepawayfromtheminstrels · 01/04/2022 19:40

Israel is a racist, apartheid state. Anyone with eyes can see it. The state, not the citizens.

You mean you're interested in the truth that supports Israel? Calling the Guardian a "biased rag" tells us everything we need to know about your viewpoint.

A child was denied treatment and died but let's not criticise Israel or the "N" word will start be bandied about 🙄

ReadtheFT · 01/04/2022 19:41

The problem is not the land only, is the continuous bombing and ill treatment of a population by its rich invaders. I am sure that if they were treated fairly peace would have been reached much much more easily.
What about the killing of fishermen? Where they terrorists too? Maybe terrorising Israeli fishes? Come on?

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 01/04/2022 19:43

@SockFluffInTheBath No, I wouldn't, but I wouldn't blame them. And the spiritual connection to Birmingham doesn't really work either because if Uighurs had been living in Birmingham happily with British people for years as in Palestine pre 48 I'd be angrier at the Russians for fucking it up.
Idk, I think it's easy for people in western Europe to get angry at the Israelis - which they should do - without acknowledging that we helped to mess up the Middle East ourselves, first by colonising it and fiddling with lines on maps and then through a genocide that made millions of people feel like settling in Israel was the safest option. Britain historically hasn't been much more moral than the Israelis, we just feel at more of a distance from the awful stuff we've done.
