I’ve just been reading this story and it has brought me to tears - that poor, innocent little girl. How on earth is this manslaughter?! Those two monsters should have gone down for murder. I hope they have a dreadful time in jail.

I don’t understand how it is manslaughter either.

It’s so tragic.

I watched the footage of her on CCTV using the lift and the mum pays absolutely no attention to her whatsoever, it’s really sad to watch.

lollipoprainbow · 05/08/2021 20:23

Tragic makes me hug my daughter even tighter, and yes it should have been murder that was no accident.

NoProblem123 · 05/08/2021 20:28

I’ve just read about her. If that’s not murder I don’t know what is.

Feel so sad for her Sad

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 20:29

It is horrifying. Poor little tot.

I know it's the DM but the reporting bothers me.

She was obviously an abusive mother because she looked in the mirror and at her phone while waiting for a lift?

The police officer quoted puts the full responsibility on the mother.

I think those things are not great.

Is there any mention of SS involvement? Reports? I don't know if the neighbours reported.

Tiny children keep getting killed. Over and over. Maybe add a society we need to get over the feeling reporting is interfering?

I mean I don't know. It's just so frequent. And I imagine they don't all get reported.

It's heartbreaking every single time.

bluewanda · 05/08/2021 20:29

The mother and her partner make my blood boil - they are absolute monsters and should be jailed for life. But I also feel livid with every single person on that jury who voted for manslaughter and not murder. What the F? Where is the justice for that little girl?! I’m so angry and upset.

I 'think' the issue with a murder charge is you have to prove/ know how did what- manslaughter is easier to get a conviction on, especially if both parties blame each other and there's no way to prove which did what. Regardless, it's disgusting and that poor kid.

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 20:30

Murder you have to mean to kill I think.

Aren't the max prison terms the same? Got a feeling they are.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2021 20:30

That footage of her with her Mum is so upsetting. I don't think she looks at her DD once, goes through the doors first and doesn't check if she's following. So terribly sad.

bluewanda · 05/08/2021 20:31

Aren't the max prison terms the same? Got a feeling they are.

I didn’t know that @NiceGerbil - I hope they get the maximum sentence possible and its a very long one, though I won’t hold my breath.

Honestly, how can two people do this to a tiny defenceless girl? Just how?!!

I’ve just been reading about this. So many cases like this, again and again. And so often it’s a very young mum with a new boyfriend and the boyfriend beating the child and the mum either turning a blind eye or participating in order to win the affection of the boyfriend. Just so tragic all round.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2021 20:33

This text exchange was particularly horrific-

In a text message exchange on July 24 2020, days before Kaylee's death, Priest told Redfern: "I'm gonna kill her... because she keeps leaving the living room or going in the kitchen, so I've paled (hit) her one and smacked her for shitting in her nappy."

Redfern said: "Good - give her one from me."

Priest replied: "I will, babe."

Lucidas · 05/08/2021 20:36

Disgusting and horrific. The messages make my stomach turn.

RIP

AngryWhompingWillow · 05/08/2021 20:38

How on EARTH was this only manslaughter? Shock That poor POOR girl ... Sad

Devastating news, like the 15 y.o. girl killed by her brother, and he and his parents have all been arrested. Also, the 5 year old boy found 'drowned' in a Welsh river, and now his family are being questioned...

WTF is going on? SO much devastation and bad news this week.

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 20:39

They can get life.

'The sentence for any manslaughter case is at the discretion of the Judge. The minimum penalty is a community order, and the maximum sentence is a life sentence. The average life sentence in the UK is 15 years before the prisoner may be eligible for parole.'

GingerBreadTeddy · 05/08/2021 20:40

Rest in peace Kaylee.
Absolutely heartbreaking

Bagelsandbrie · 05/08/2021 20:41

I actually think the whole Covid world has caused so much depression, anxiety and despair financially and in every possible way that a lot of people have just given up caring about their children / families. Of course these things have and will sadly always happen - and I’m not saying that’s the case here- but i think there’s no doubt that the stress of these situations can’t help families already on the edge.

Hmm Seriously?! Angry
bluewanda · 05/08/2021 20:44

Thanks @NiceGerbil - let’s hope it’s life. Anything less would be an absolute travesty.

Is there any mention of SS involvement? Reports?

I didn’t see anything in the article, unless I missed it. I’d be surprised if they weren’t on social services’ radar at the very least?!

@AngryWhompingWillow I was saying that in response to the comment about lots of these sorts of stories in the news recently. A general comment. I don’t know why that makes you so angry. It’s not an excuse.

ShowOfHands · 05/08/2021 20:44

It isn't manslaughter because of an uncaring jury. It's because they can't satisfy the legal case for murder as long as both deny it and accuse each other. However, manslaughter can carry the same punishment and can be proved.

Sparklingbrook · 05/08/2021 20:44

It would be hard to believe anything about this was down to the pandemic.
PivotPivotPivottt · 05/08/2021 20:44

I haven't heard of this before now I'm in tears after reading that and watching the CCTV footage Sad. Currently lying beside my 4 year old daughter who's just fell asleep and don't want to leave her side now.

Don't even have the words for the scum that killed her I'm so angry and upset after reading this.

All sad news stories get me but when it involves a child of the same sex/age as my own it always seems to hit harder.

gardeninggirl68 · 05/08/2021 20:45
