I’ve just been reading this story and it has brought me to tears - that poor, innocent little girl. How on earth is this manslaughter?! Those two monsters should have gone down for murder. I hope they have a dreadful time in jail.

It was an awful crime, but you have no right to bash the jury for their decision. The article is a commercial piece, designed to illicit an emotional response, whilst the evidence presented to a jury in a courtroom should be factual, designed to illicit a just response. It is right that there is a distinction between the two, or else the justice system would be based on emotions and revenge, not preventing further crimes.
Awful crime of course, and nothing but sadness for the victim and her loved ones.

I think it's fucking barbaric that these two pieces of shit could be walking free

They may be released on licence, which means they will be supervised and may return to prison if they breach the terms of the licence. So a level of freedom, yes, but not completely free. Not saying this is how it should be, just clarifying the current system.

The Crown could appeal the sentence on the basis that it is unduly lenient. From the reports, I believe the mother and her boyfriend were convicted of unlawful act manslaughter. The sentence is pretty much at the top of the allowed range for a category B offence (8-16 years). To get a higher sentence, the prosecution would have to convince the courts that this was a category A offence. I may be wrong but, on the information available, I doubt the prosecution would succeed.

Note that the age of the victim does not affect the category of the offence. It is, however, one of the factors that pushed the sentence towards the top of the range for the category.

So heartbreaking 💔 Beautiful, defenceless, sweet little girl. 💔

You should had been loved dearly, protected no matter what, nourished and cuddled every single day. Instead you endured a life of unimaginable violence, fear and pain. Rest in peace little angel, you'll now be united with other little angels who tragically would have had similar circumstances to yours 💔💔💔

How is it allowed and possible that in the 21st century in the UK, which is economically developed and rich country, defenceless babies and children are still at the mercy of their abusive parents? How can we as a society make an actual difference? What can we practically do to save those little angels who had such awful luck in what is basically a parent roulette?

I am hoping the pair will meet their match whilst in prison and they'll be walking no more than that little girl is now Angry

Awful. Just echoing other posters really, so many children being harmed by the people they should be able to trust.
Sad thing is that when those two get to prison they will be put straight into protection. That's right, we as a society will protect those monsters all the way through their sentences in a way that they never protected that poor little girl.
Personal opinion of mine that all offenders against the person rapists, wife beaters, murderers, child abusers etc should all be thrown into general population. Do the crime take the fucking consequences.

CLV1972 · 08/08/2021 21:08

What makes you say they will be put into protection?

Ld30 · 08/08/2021 23:10

This kept me awake the night I read it. I went into my 3 1/2 yo DDs room and just wept next to her. All that promise, all that hope.
It reminded me of the Daniel Pieka (sp) case from a decade or so ago too. His mother and boyfriend got life, minimum 30years. I know the specifics are different and CPS/judge/jury do what they can within reason and law. But nothing ever is quite enough, is it?

To person asking why they think they’ll get protection: it’s dependent on prison size/category - according to a friend who used to be PO, sex offenders & child abuser & killers often get put on different wings from general population for their own protection.

I did read a comment on Birmingham live comments section that said they knew the partner had already been beaten up on remand. I really, really hope that’s true. I never used to ‘an eye for an eye’ but after working in child care and then having my own children, I can’t see a more suitable punishment.

It's so sad. I read today about her posting on tiktok after Kaylee had passed away. She had a second child. My heart goes out to Kaylee, but also to her son who has lost his sister. So heartbreaking.

Those vile monsters should have been given longer. 😞
