(I don't know how these things work in "Fleet Street". I do know someone who used to work on a ghastly Sunday tabloid and he was always coming out with "everybody knows" gossip but none of it was ever verified AFAIK )

Just one thing--all this naming of names is going to make it much more likely that blackmailers will strike again. Because they can now tell the victims that they have absolutely no hope of retaining anonymity if they go to the police and will therefore HAVE to pay up.

And before anyone says oh, it's only so and so and who cares about him, blackmail is VILE thing to go through--no matter who you are. Perhaps it won't happen to you. Perhaps it will happen to your elderly mother (who might have secrets), or your aunt. Or your son at school.

And who's going to tell them to go to the police now? Because look where that's got this Royal individual.

The thing is eliza that I don't actually think that the royals give a fig about what we think.
firstly, there is every possibility that this is untrue.
secondly, if it is true, so what? really, does anyone care, and will anyone be talking about it next week?
It might be embarrasing but I applaud whichever minor royal it was for contacting the police and not letting them get away with it.
