The sinking of the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland 1985, I was 8. No idea why that one but it was all over the news and really shocked everyone at the time.
I remember that too. I heard the explosion and the sirens. The terrorism aspect didn't become apparent until a couple of days later though, everyone thought it was an accident.

Death of Diana - I was 7. I still remember it really clearly. I'd woken up early and took myself downstairs to watch TV. All the channels were showing the news and even though I wasn't sure what had happened, I remember thinking it must be a big deal and going to wake my mum up.
This is exactly how I recall it happening. Early morning thought tv had broken because it was black. Woke mum to fix it and she was like no love ...

Cyclone Bola, 1988 so I was almost 4.
We were having meatballs, mashed potatoes and peas and I remeber seeing the tv from the dining room table.
We didn't usually have the tv on but Mum must have wanted to see what was happening with the approaching cyclone.

Princess Anne's first engagement/wedding in 1973 when I was 6. Feeling my age now.

A gangland murder in Melbourne in the 90s.

I remember that now too you've mentioned it. I have such clear memories of it on TV. I was in Auckland at the time but don't remember actually hearing the explosions!

Since I'm old..it would have to be the funeral of JFK...the US President who in 1963 was assassinated.
All the schools were closed in mourning so I had to go with my mum to her work....there was a nice older woman who lived next to mum's work place and she invited me to watch the proceedings on her COLOUR TV!
I'd never seen one.
Then the next was pretty interesting...it was the Ed Sullivan show...in Feb. 1964. His guests that night were members of a new rock and roll band from the UK ....called the BEATLES!!! (SCREAMS AND FAINTS)...I told you that I'm oldGrin

As well as the death of King George VI, I also remember watching the Coronation of The Queen the following year. My dad went out and bought a tv especially for it. Half the neighbours turned up to watch and the tv was tiny.
