Why can nothing be done about Mugabe and his destroying of Zimababwe???

Im watching the news aghast and saddened for the people of Zimbabwe. I will admit that I am not at all familiar with world politics- but why is Mugabe being allowed to get away with this?
the world was quick to interfere with Iraq's business - why does nobody in power seem to care about the terrible plight here?

someone please educate me.

'in my generation it was lumped together' says it all really.

Desiderata · 17/09/2007 23:46

Errm, VVVQV .... I am actually here. There is nothing racist in what I said, but fact.

But then, I don't speculate on MM theads ....

PeachesMcLean · 17/09/2007 23:46

Now, where were we?

Why is nobody in power doing anything about the curren situation in Zimbabwe?

Hurlyburly · 17/09/2007 23:47

Well times have changed since Dr Livingstone met Mr Stanley.

Monkeytrousers · 17/09/2007 23:47

it isn't anything to to with 'political correctness' but real politik.

Sossy · 17/09/2007 23:48

It just seems everyone hammered down hard on her. I suppose how you take a comment and whether or not it causes offence is a personal issue. It seems she said one thing, then BAM, lots of people calling her names including racist. Her comment may have been inaccurate but to suggest she's a racist is wrong too imo.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/09/2007 23:49

I realised I was speaking about you rather than to you - unintentional - sorry.

I'm afraid your comments read otherwise (as demonstrated by the reaction of many and not just me) - even if that wasnt your intention.

I'm not entirely sure what your reference to MM threads is. Perhaps you could explain?

ruddynorah · 17/09/2007 23:49

she has said similar on other threads.

Pan · 17/09/2007 23:49

Desi!!

re-read your first post. And read it again??

wtf are you taking at the mo? This is below you.

Desiderata · 17/09/2007 23:52

hmmmm, from this thread, I'm getting the general feeling that I'm not liked.

Well, if I'm honest, this would be a good time to go. I have been neglecting ds a bit since I discovered MN, and he's far to gorge for that!

It just feels a little, this evening, that someone has opened the trapgate.

ruddynorah · 17/09/2007 23:53

see ya.

PeachesMcLean · 17/09/2007 23:55

I haven't exactly stalked you but I'd got the general impression that you ARE generally liked. That's why people are rather surprised.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/09/2007 23:55

Desi....at the risk of offending you - are you due on/peri-menopausal atm?

You are being very strange.

Oh!

Am I very unpopular then?

I thought I got on with you, ruddy?

alycat · 17/09/2007 23:57

Yes, generally like and usually eloquent and sensible...

Desi - how much if anything have you had to drink tonight

TheQueenOfQuotes · 17/09/2007 23:59

Kerry - actually (just to correct a fact ) until 1998 things were going really well - the currency was pretty strong, there was an abundance of food and most of the population lived happily together. It's only been in the last 10yrs that things have gone haywire.

I was incredibly lucky that I at least got to live in the "good" Zimbabwe for 1yr before it started its downward spiral.

Desiderata · 17/09/2007 23:59

No, I'm none of the above.

But I've seen you speculating on Madeleine McCan threads, so much as I love you, you're no example.

i dont think she was racist.

i dont think you have to live in africa, SA, or Zim to have an opinion.

i dont think being pre-menstrual shoudl be an excuse and hate when people infer that your 'offish' becuase of PMT ( thats in general accross the board not just here)

her opinion might be wrong and i tend to think that Hatwomans version is probably more on the mark.

i also think that people must be very board to have their torches lit and the fires stoked on a Mnday evening.

I have enjoyed your contribution to Mumsnet Desi - and although your tone is very harsh i tend to think that it is understandable after being called racist a number of times.

thats understandable not excusable.

newlifenewname · 18/09/2007 00:02

Maybe you don't care but I like you and I fond your comments to me earlier a little and was surprised
