It would appear!

Nice to see bullying wasn't lost in the classroom.

No one has the right to stop conversation and intimidate people into submission

You will never stop people talking about the news, but hey, keep thinking you are so above and better than others (minght help if you went out and got a life)

LittleBella · 11/09/2007 22:34

No I don't want to ignore people who are openly accusing other parents whose child is missing of murder on the basis of jumbled reports.

It is unacceptable, it is offensive, but it's not illegal and it's not strictly against the rules of mumsnet.

So all I can do is either challenge them or swear at them.

But when I challenge them, my challenges remain unanswered.

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:34

Acksherly, passive aggressive is a way of implying that someone is "bullying", even when they arent, but it can be decided so, since its done in a "passive aggressive" manner ie, not at all.

TolpuddlapinMartyr · 11/09/2007 22:35

I rather think it's actively aggressive... passive implies a LACK of action, surely.

And it doesn't say "Deleted by Mumsnet Moderators". It says "Deleted by Mumsnet".

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:35

If they've got the right to discuss it, people have the right to object, surely?

And along with rights go responsibilities, I think.

Maybe Kate McCann should become a member of MN, actually, then no fucker would be able to post the horrific things they're posting atm because the MN philosophy would be against it.

Or maybe I should start a wildly speculative thread (in manner of unverified Sky News report) about why certain posters are so keen to post their own spittle-flecked theories?

(posted by Hunker, as VVV, because I can't be arsed to get unbanned)

Message repleted

Elizabetth · 11/09/2007 22:38

But you aren't just objecting are you VVV, you're spamming and vandalising a whole forum.

KeirHardAitch · 11/09/2007 22:38

well, they started it. [childish]

minorityrules · 11/09/2007 22:39

It isn't funny though is it? It is being mean to certain types of people, that's why I say its bullying. You (as in ones doing it not you personally) are wanting those people to go away. Now 1 or 2 of them are weird but majority wasn't

It will turn people away, it will stop people wanting to post and asking questions on anything topical. 'You' will be the only ones left eventually talking about norks and fanjos as ew people won't want to be here, esecially if it looks like a cliquey place (and tonight it does)

How many of the normal 'posts' have been missed tonight thanks to the trolling

If this happened, say on the FF adverts threads, how would people feel, cos it could now, a precedent has been set....don't like it, spam and troll and bump things so they don't exist anymore

OP posts:
berolina · 11/09/2007 22:40

minority: 'walk away and ignore' means, in this instance, not using MN so I can avoid seeing those horrible, lurid, ghoulish thread titles in active conversations. Why should I stop using MN?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/09/2007 22:40

Lordy

You have a right to discuss it,
Others have a right to discuss you discussing it,
Both sides if you must, have a right to discuss the others discussing them.

But whatever you're discussing it's helpful to have consideration for others who find you discussion offensive, ie stick to one thread instead of multiples, and please don't bring the good name of MN into disrepute by posting libellous garbage. We've been there already.

And above all keep a sense of humour when all about you are losing theirs.

Elizabetth · 11/09/2007 22:40

"rather think it's actively aggressive... passive implies a LACK of action, surely. "

The way they are trying to hid their aggression under "jokes" is what makes me use the term P-A. They're really angry, hence spamming the whole forum, but trying to disguise it in weird humour.

KeirHardAitch · 11/09/2007 22:40

but it's not going to happen on a ff thread, however much you might like to propose this as a thin end of a wedge scenario, it simply isn't.

CitizenColditz · 11/09/2007 22:40

messgae completed

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:41

Elizabetth, the fact you addressed VVV and not me suggests you didn't read my whole post...

LittleBella · 11/09/2007 22:41

I do actually agree with you about that mr.

But it's the only thing I do mind!

I think for one evening or a couple of days it's fine, (some of the threads were quite funny and this sort of thing has happened occasionally before, where a thread has generated various offshoots) but if it became a standard practice when a controversial issue is discussed, it would be very bad.

KeirHardAitch · 11/09/2007 22:42

i don't think they are trying to hide their agression at all, elizabetth. you've got the wrong end of the stick.

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:42

What sort of cake, Saggar? Got any lemon drizzle?

(posted by Hunker, as VVV, because I can't be arsed to get unbanned)

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:42

Elizabeth - its not spamming, and not just by me either

Each to their own. Twas a bit of lighthearted fun minority. FOlk dont always share a sense of humour, doesnt make it wrong though.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/09/2007 22:43

Oh yes. And wine. You can both come

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:44

I'm not angry about anything though.

I'm a bit fed up.

Not angry.

If I was angry i'd walk away.

I think you presume too much.

Saturn74 · 11/09/2007 22:45

"You will never stop people talking about the news, but hey, keep thinking you are so above and better than others (minght help if you went out and got a life)"

A life you say?

Can anyone advise where I'd start looking for one of those please?

(They aren't hidden deep in the Sky News Interactive service are they, because I don't think I can suspend my disbelief long enough to look for one there.)

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:48

MR, spamming won't happen on FF advertising threads, because MNHQ have said it's Not On.

And I can't see anyone feeling strongly enough about the practices of SMA et al to spam the entire board. Well, except me, perhaps.

Which, to me, shows that the strength of feeling about the more outrageous discussion on this topic, the speculation and gut-wrenching descriptions, are getting to people.

And thank FUCK for that, frankly. I'd worry about humanity in general if the majority thought that discussion in that vein was OK.

(posted by Hunker, as VVV, because I can't be arsed to get unbanned)

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:49

And Saggar, that'd be lovely, I'll be there directly

(posted by Hunker, as VVV, because I can't be arsed to get unbanned)

minorityrules · 11/09/2007 22:53

But they also said bumping out of existence isn't on too, hasn't stopped it, has it? Just done in a new way

So, everyone is so confident that one day, this couldn't happen to something THEY feel strongly about? (I don't feel strongly about talking about it myself, just the right to talk about it) Does every single one of you believe in everything the other does? Are you that secure that one day this couldn't happen in one night to something you believed in? In one night a lot of damage can be done

New people joined over the MM stuff, one day you could be outnumbered

a dangerous precedent has been set
