It would appear!

Nice to see bullying wasn't lost in the classroom.

No one has the right to stop conversation and intimidate people into submission

You will never stop people talking about the news, but hey, keep thinking you are so above and better than others (minght help if you went out and got a life)

I'm at war with Eastasia. I have always been at war with Eastasia. Eurasia is my ally.

minorityrules · 11/09/2007 22:16

WW point

If you look at what I have posted, I have said I don't think they have had anything to do with it (parents)

People are commenting on the newspaper and tv reports

What media do we believe then? I'm guessing none of it in your eyes

Oh goody that means 9/11 didn't happen, nor the iraqi war and no one died

Fabulous, I can now never worry about anything again as all news reports are false.

OP posts:
LittleBella · 11/09/2007 22:17

Er no MR you obviously haven't come across media studies

Honestly people slag off media studies as a mickey mouse subject, but you are a clear demonstration of why it should be on the curriculum

Elizabetth · 11/09/2007 22:17

There's some really unpleasant passive aggressive behaviour going on here. If people object to threads or particular posts can't they just report them to the Mumsnet moderators?

theUrbanDryad · 11/09/2007 22:19

oh, minorityrules...

i feel so very, very sorry for you.

if you can't see the difference between discussing things like the Iraq war and 9/11 and horrible, scurrilous gossip about Madeline McCann, then i really despair.

leaving now.

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:19

MR, that's just silly.

I'm not saying I don't believe news reports and please don't lump me in with those who would deny the holocaust-types - it's offensive in the extreme.

I'm saying I don't believe whatever Sky News puts out there in their bid to be "first" because in that bid, they're often "wrong". Very wrong. The BBC are far better, not always correct, but FAR more reliable.

So what's the point of discussing something that's not been verified? It's not big and it's not clever.

theUrbanDryad · 11/09/2007 22:20

Elizzabeth - there aren't any moderators on MN. this is a self-moderated site.

Elizabetth · 11/09/2007 22:20

Fake pity is patronising.

And also passive aggressive.

dinny · 11/09/2007 22:21

there used to be moderators, didn't there? where have they gone?

Elizabetth · 11/09/2007 22:21

How come I've seen "message deleted by Mumsnet moderators" then?

LittleBella · 11/09/2007 22:21

Elizabeth, I'm happy to be patronising and/ or aggressive to people who have spent days demonstrating that they are not responsive to reasoned, respectful argument.

LittleBella · 11/09/2007 22:22

It's because if you report a post, mumsnet will delete it if it breaks the rules

Elizabetth · 11/09/2007 22:23

I think you'll find they just didn't agree with you LittleBella, not that they aren't responsive.

This is bullying and I don't like it.

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:23

No mods, Dinny - just rockers. Well, nutters

(posted by Hunker, as VVV, because I can't be arsed to get unbanned)

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:24

Elizabetth, should all discussion of every tiny aspect of "news" be applauded then?

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:24

(that was Hunker again)

minorityrules · 11/09/2007 22:26

Why is it silly??

I don't believe in stuff they are writing but by you stifling debate and shouting over people, you will stop the ones that do believe in everything they read from learning!

I have already seen some posters (before tonight) realising that SKy news say wat they feel like ad retract/change stories later

Some didn't know that, and now some will never know that

You would be better to be trying to change opinion by calm rational discussion

This just makes you all look like you are sitting with fingers in your ears, la la la-ing cos you don't want to hear/see bad things

OP posts:
LittleBella · 11/09/2007 22:26

No Elizabeth, I can tell the difference.

Every single time they are challenged about the accuracy of a news report, or about the principle of justice in the case of that loon bobbiesmum, they simply ignore the challenge, or answer it with some kind of idiocy about 9 11 not being true then.

How can you have a sensible debate with people who are so utterly impervious to reason?

Elizabetth · 11/09/2007 22:28

See that's another passive aggressive trick. If I object to the spamming of these forums and members (not moderators) attempting to silence other members apparently I'm applauding discussing "every tiny aspect of the news".

I've stayed out of Madeleine McCann discussions since when she first went missing and only made a couple of posts since this latest very disturbing news, but other people want to talk about it and really it's not up to you to shut them down.

What's happened since the McCanns were made supsects is big news and it's a bit unreasonable to say the least to expect people not to want to talk about it.

oliveoil · 11/09/2007 22:28

"I'll teach my children to shut up if they're offending everyone else in the room."

fabulous gess, fabulous

I wonder how many threads we can get saying "shut up" or "it is my right to discuss ghoulish details I know nothing about" etc

v tedious

EscapeFrom · 11/09/2007 22:28

Do you know, I bought some small silver nickel forks from a second hand shop, as ds1 has problems using big forks and these were ideal, and despite me washing them thoroughly, they taste funny! A strange metallic taste that I don't notice on anything else.

is it the nickel?

minorityrules · 11/09/2007 22:29

And hunker....not applauded but people should have the right to discuss it

If you don't like something, walk away and ignore

There's loads on here that I find offensive, i ignore it

OP posts:
Elizabetth · 11/09/2007 22:30

I'm not really following why disagreements with individual posters, which everybody will have on a forum, justifies spamming a forum in order to stop everybody from having a discussion LittleBella.

If there is a particular person whose posts you find offensive why not ignore them or report them.

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:31

Is "passive aggressive" the new "fucking twat" of insults?

Did I miss a meeting?

PMSL!

VeniVidiVernonHartshornNUMNQV · 11/09/2007 22:33

Surely that works the other way around then, minority?

Folk are having a larf. Can you just turn around and walk away if you dont like it?
