Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

OP posts:

I wondered whether they had been misquoted slightly - for example if any parent was asked "Would you leave your child(ren) alone in an apartment on holiday?" I think most would say no, knowing what we do now, regardless of what they would previously have said, and not meant to be in judgement of the McCanns. This "No" could then be splashed across the front page in its more controversial form.
Didn't actually want to buy it so I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has read the articles.

Am I allowed to say IMO KK winning mother of the year was a joke? Jordan, ok might not agree with many of the things she does, but don't think i doubt she's a good mother.

kentgirl73 · 21/09/2007 20:22

lets face it KK what has she really done apart from be in the publicity for all the wrong reasons - and really is that all we can say that they have won "mother of the year" - how were they voted for it??

Dont think its for me to comment on their partenting skills, but really think KK should look at herself before she judges others!!!

HorribleHorace · 21/09/2007 20:33

'mother of the year' lol

jordan possibly, kerry katona - that seriously must have been a wind up!!

kentgirl73 · 21/09/2007 20:36

i certainly dont get my mothering skills based on either of them !

LittleBella · 21/09/2007 20:43

Well it is extremely coarse and vulgar for a celebrity to comment on someone else's parenting.

Jesus what is the world coming to.

HorribleHorace · 21/09/2007 20:49

the thing that gets me about these people, in particular KK, is they have not actually done anything to be worthy of the title 'celebrity' No one would give a toss about KK's opinion if it weren't for the fact she was once in a pop group. She hasn't done a lot since, other than drink and drugs - oh, and Iceland adverts, of course.

lucykate · 21/09/2007 20:51

"both Jordan and KK have been 'mother of the year' I think. So yes, they do speak with some authority."

pmsl

"authority", again pmsl

FairyMum · 21/09/2007 21:23

I'd rather be 'rear of the year' than 'mother of the year' anyway

StealthPolarBear · 21/09/2007 22:12

I could be rear of the year
oh hang on - it's not based on size?

ScoobyDooooo · 22/09/2007 13:46

Ha Ha no KK would never leave her children alone but she would more than happy snort coke around them & while they are in her care, good mother hey?

ELF1981 · 23/09/2007 00:28

Didnt KK win mother of the year a while ago, when she was still with Bryan and a bit whiter than white? ie before she descended into "taking coke in front of the kids"

LittleBella · 23/09/2007 08:51

Lord whatever happened to "people in glass houses"?

I'm staggered, really I am.

HorribleHorace · 23/09/2007 15:31

there is some stuff in the Mirror today about there having been TWO sightings of a little girl matching Madeleine's description at the same place in Morocco. These sightings were apparently not followed up. Kate and Gerry are said to believe these are the most significant sightings. Kate is said to have always felt Madeleine was taken into North Africa.

Also a British police officer working over there says the Portugese have stopped looking for Madeleine and are concentrating solely on the parents.

This is so incredibly heartbreaking, how the Portugese have just let who ever took her just walk away with her. There is a strong chance she is still alive. It's just heartbreaking to think of her out there somewhere

Peachy · 23/09/2007 16:38

Actually the news agency RE the sightings said that there was and still is significant police activity in Morocco, and I remember one of the two witnesses being interviewed at the time. I have been to Moroccoa and I suspect that if you wanted to disappear there, you could quite effectively. The sightings are classed as significant because they were unrelated, reported independently, at similar times and within a few hundred metres of each other- so they do sound important.

Sadly though, may was a long time ago

The actual official information from this case could be written on the back of your hand and is only to be found, sifting through the dross, in some of the serious newspapers. EVERYTHING else is speculation. And that is the way it should be because it's not up to us to solve the case.

Much as we would love to.

So they have hired private investigators, fantastic! Good for them!
I hope they'll find the sweetheart.

Summerdressesandlacyboots · 24/09/2007 10:57

They have been working with them for four months? and still havent found her?

Not any better than the police then

dolally · 24/09/2007 11:00

yes, they hired them 4 months ago- reportedly.

However it seems like they've found no more than the Portuguese police?!?!

maisym · 24/09/2007 13:49

gosh - 4 months of private investiagtion as the times writes - why didn't they say this sooner? Has a reward been offered for any info?

kiskidee · 24/09/2007 13:51

999

kiskidee · 24/09/2007 13:52

Hello all,
As agreed we've set this thread to be able to continue beyond the 1000 mark - so we don't have to have more than one.
