Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

OO - you said "crap" and "fucking". This is a parenting site you know. No crp or fcking on here please. Except for baby crp and baby-producing fcking.

totaleclipse · 19/09/2007 16:56

interesting, but I bet the costs of thier service is high, or would it be govenment funding, as it does say they need the prime ministers permission, if so they should do it, Gordon Brown has taken a huge interest in the story.

This media circus is no longer about Madeleine. Hasn't, in fact, been for a while. The McCanns seek to drag the whole world with them into a delusional, narcissistic fantasy, where the belief that pester power will bring their poor little girl back reigns over common sense. They want to believe every frenetic, compulsive action they take will lessen their responsibility and guilt in this tragic, sad case. If the worst case scenario happened and little Madeleine was abducted by a criminal, that person would not be stupid enough to expose the now super famous Madeleine to the outside world. Such a high-profile victim is useless for the child traffickers alive.

Scootergrrrl · 20/09/2007 13:15

Youch!

tiredemma · 20/09/2007 13:16

come on - miumau- tll us what you really feel- dont beat around the bush

MrsMarvel · 20/09/2007 13:18

So what would you do then Miumau, any ideas?

totaleclipse · 20/09/2007 13:19

So what do you suggest they do? relax, put there feet up and hope for good news? What would you do? Anything no doubt, no matter how slim the chances are that it will bring her home.

HorribleHorace · 20/09/2007 13:22

i agree that the extensive publicity has probably made Madeleine 'too hot to handle' and has probably decreased the chances of finding her but I think at the time, the McCanns did what any parents would do in that situation. They were desperate and yes, feel guilty, as we all would. Because of the location of the abduction and the Portugese secrecy laws they were feeling desperate and abandoned and wanted to keep her in the headlines. I don't think anyone can blame them for that.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

None of us know what the outcome would have been without all the publicity anyway, could very well be the same as it is now.

MiuMau · 20/09/2007 13:34

If she's still alive and a criminal has her now, the only way is to calm things down and hope the vile person will relax and make a 'mistake' thinking she could be exposed to the outside world without a risk. The campaign has been so massive I believe everyone remotely interested has sweet Madeleine's features burnt in their minds, without the constant pestering.
I don't believe the parents are involved in killing her directly or indirectly, although, naturally I can't really know it for certain. They just did something terribly wrong by creating the opportunity for the disaster to happen and are trying to undo it in a desperate manner. In a desperate, but not necessarily the best manner.

tutter · 20/09/2007 13:37

963 post? you fecking lunatics persistent lot

MrsMarvel · 20/09/2007 13:37

OK that's a more palatable way of putting it!

Peachy · 20/09/2007 13:40

'into a delusional, narcissistic fantasy,'

Are you sure its that self centred- could it be just....

deperation?

by any chance?

Or are you tehre eprsonal psych?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/09/2007 13:46

ROFL at Fio's Colonel Mustard post

MiuMau · 20/09/2007 14:12

It is probably the advice they've gotten from all those media professionals, who create and sell stories with a clear agenda, for profit driven reasons. We live in a world, where most of the corporations act in a narcissistic personality disordered manner, hence the manipulation (and exploitation) of the masses. I believe part of the negative responses they've gotten from the public is due to the manipulative and calculating nature of the campaign. Let's face it, people just don't like to be manipulated. At least, I know I don't.
The McCanns are desperate.
The media corporations greedy.

StealthPolarBear · 21/09/2007 15:21

Has anyone seen the cover of the current OK magazine? Jordan and Kerry Katona both saying they would never leave their children on their own.

jitterbug · 21/09/2007 15:38

The bottom line is that Madeline would not have gone missing if her parents hadn't left her.

Peachy · 21/09/2007 16:11

Isn't kerry katona in trouble with SS re the kids though, or is that ust tabloid gossip (always read the headlines, never beyond).

Not sure not leaving her would have made a difference tbh- if someone was really determined to take her it woul;dn't take a moments slip at the beach or whatever.

tbh i don't really know where i stand on the whole thing, but was just very surprised to see it

StealthPolarBear · 21/09/2007 17:02

here it is

HorribleHorace · 21/09/2007 17:49

that's very helpful of them. I don't see the point in making statements like that. Fine, they wouldn't have done it. They can sit their smug and know that they have their children to hold tonight

I'm sure there are many, many things that both Jordan and Kerry Katona (particularly KK) do that the McCann's wouldn't. Tbh, I don't know how KK has the front to even make statements like that knowing what we do about her parenting

FairyMum · 21/09/2007 18:54

Both Jordan and KK have been 'mother of the year' I think. So yes, they do speak with some authority.
