Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

I just find it amazing that if she was taken by a 'ring' as suspected, that not one person involved has informed with that kind of money on offer

MiuMau · 24/09/2007 19:56

So they would have hired the hugely expensive private investigators about a month after Madeleine vanished. Did they have the generous millionaire backers already back then? Fishy...

ELF1981 · 24/09/2007 21:45

I sincerley hope that Madeline is found.

Dont know what I would do if it were my little girl missing, possibly would be turning over every stone in Morocco at the moment

Did the 2nd siting in Morocco happen independently BEFORE the papers released the info that she had been "sighted" - ie are these independent "sightings" or could one have got confused due to the other?

Gosh, not explaining myself very well today - I hope somebody knows what I mean

HorribleHorace · 24/09/2007 21:53

yes, apparently so, Elf

UCM · 24/09/2007 21:55

They may have hired someone else as their loyalties to the police handling the case may have died once their brains started thinking that things were not done properly, possibly the next day.

Good luck to them.

ScoobyDooooo · 24/09/2007 22:09

anyone seen this here

Peachy · 25/09/2007 11:33

Elf that si the case I believe

Apaprenlty one paper (don't know which, saw it on news last night- tomorrow's papers type thing) is running the notion again that Mrs McCann didn't shout the right thing after noticing her daughter was missing.

I hope these police produce a guide as to what should be shouted in these circumstances, as I would ahte to 'shout the wrong thing' if something so terrible should ever befall us!

I find this line of speculation the most bizarre, really.

wannaBe · 25/09/2007 17:16

I don?t think the notion that ?no charges can be brought without a body? is a positive thing at all. If Madeleine is never found and the parents are guilty, without a body it is unlikely that they will ever be brought to justice. And if they are innocent, without a body they will never be able to be cleared of any involvement.

NAB3 · 25/09/2007 17:17

I still think she is alive.

wannaBe · 25/09/2007 22:00

I think that if she was alive someone would have talked by now.

given the amount of publicity someone would know something.

dolally · 25/09/2007 22:25

something else for us to speculate on:

the Portuguese news (RTP1- national news tonight at 8pm) say that Interpol are analysing a photograph taken by two Spanish tourists in Morroco in early August. The pic was taken from a car and shows a group of gypsies walking along the roadside one of them a woman with a child on her back, The child's face is peeping from behind the womans's back. The Tv news showed this picture being displayed on a website. But I don't know which website. Certainly the child (to me) looked vaguely like Madeleine though I suppose it's yet another red herring.

It's appearing across the press now, including BBC News, and a more close-up photo in The Times, albeit very blurred. I wonder whether they can really tell if it's her - the most positive thing is that the photograph was taken at the end of August which is more hopeful than the sightings recently reported which were back in May. I don't know what to think at this point but it would be miraculous if they really found her after all the different twists this has taken.

mumemma · 25/09/2007 23:09

Meant to include the Times link: www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article2533072.ece

ToughDaddy · 25/09/2007 23:58

no one can deny that it was mistake to leave kids alone. But I am sure that they know and regret that. BUT the punishment seems disproportionate. Much of the criticism is because people think that the McCanns have had more help than many others would have due to the fact that they r a nice middle class couple.

my humble opinion is that this is irrelevant and that we should presume innocence and show some compassion. None of us would tell our friend with lung cancer that he doesn't deserve sympathy because he is a smoker? Don't let our class and other hang-ups overcome our human compassion. Fight that battle somewhere else, I plead. Goodnight friends

Desiderata · 26/09/2007 00:07

Oooh, is this thread dead yet?

ToughDaddy · 26/09/2007 00:21

never dead with TDaddy :-)

Desiderata · 26/09/2007 00:23

Dead now?

MaureenMLove · 26/09/2007 00:29

I guess not!

Desiderata · 26/09/2007 00:36

Pah!

hunkermunker · 26/09/2007 00:37

Justine posted further down - it's had its "limit" taken off it so that it can be the only Madeleine thread on here.

Desiderata · 26/09/2007 00:50

Ah! Clever thinking, because it takes so long to make a post now

JARM · 26/09/2007 07:54

Picture in the news today taekn by tourist in Morocco - to me the similarities are striking.

Not usually one to post on this thread, but think this is actually "news" and significant

HorribleHorace · 26/09/2007 08:00

I hope it is her. At least then her parents would know she is being cared for. It does look like it could be.
