Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

Yes they say he has been interviewed but who knows if this is true or not, after all if this whole situation is a "set up" then anything is possible.

No i am not racist either, if this was the british police & the investigation had gone how this has i would feel exactly the same.

JeremyVile · 16/09/2007 16:07

The point is - how the hell do you know that the Portuguese police have made 'a spectacular fuck-up'?

You dont, none of us are privvy to the investigation so we cant assume these things.

And yes, xenophic would be a much more apt description.

JeremyVile · 16/09/2007 16:07

....or even xenophobic.

kimi · 16/09/2007 16:12

It has been well documented that the apartment was not sealed off till much later and the McCann's their friends, hotel staff and helpers were allowed to walk in and out freely.

Also I don't think the photos in the paper of the woman who claims to have been beaten by the police were put there by McCann supporters,

Ok the woman may just be a chancer who is looking for a get out of jail free card, however we just don't know, we can only go be the facts we are given and as they are ever changing it is hard to know what to believe.

Hideehi · 16/09/2007 16:35

The fuck up's i am talking about is letting Kate McCann keep cuddle cat, not sealing the apartment etc the list goes on and on and I was shouting at the TV 4 months ago that those things should be happening so how on earth did the British police not get involved and make those things happen back when some evidence could have been preserved to either prove the parents guilt or otherwise.

edam · 16/09/2007 16:52

There's nothing xenophobic about criticising apparent police incompetence. I've criticised the UK police too, when it has been deserved. The officer is indeed under investigation, unless you believe The Times is making it up out of xenophobia?

amidaiwish · 16/09/2007 16:52

India Knight's article linked to below is spot on. That poor family, that's all i have to say.

Pan · 16/09/2007 17:06

oh for heaven's sake, edam...thanks for letting me know.

yes JV is right..I am one of those who don't know of the ins and outs ( and shake it all abouts) of developments!!

but thanks again.

HorribleHorace · 16/09/2007 17:15

there's some stuff in the NOTW and the Mirror today which is quite disturbing.

According to an article in there, a man and woman, claiming to be Polish, but speaking perfect English, went to a pet crematurium (sp?) and asked for 2 dogs to be incinarated. The man didn't even look in the 2 black bags they had and incinarated them. He asked if they wanted the ashes and they said no, to scatter them. He says they were emotionless, which he found odd. This was 2 weeks after 3rd May.

The police have now sealed off this place, apparently.

HorribleHorace · 16/09/2007 17:16

but i'm assuming that this man would be able to say from pictures who this couple were or rather were not

kimi · 16/09/2007 17:24

The NOTW and the Mirror are hardly reputable sources of information.

Mostly full of I shagged a footballer and look at my tits, kind of rag.

edam · 16/09/2007 17:55

You just caught me at an impatient moment, Pan. And I was getting a bit weary of the allegations of racism/xenophobia.

I'm not nationalistic in my criticism of the police, am on record as slating the West Midlands Serious Crimes Squad who fitted up the Birmingham Six amonst other shocking cases. And James Anderton (Anderson?) that one who had coppers hanging around public loos just in case any gay men got it together.

Pan · 16/09/2007 17:58

Fine.

Pan · 16/09/2007 18:07

Oddly, edam, my dad, a staunch Republican introduced me to the Superintendent of that bunch of villains when he lived over in Spain. That was a lovely evening...

edam · 16/09/2007 18:47

Blimey, what on earth did you discuss? 1001 ways to make a suspect fall down stairs? How to punch someone through a pillow?

layman · 16/09/2007 19:16

The Daily Express should be ashamed of themselves ....these frontpages just sound so bogus.

Am I allowed to say 'I think they're innocent'?

fortunecookie · 16/09/2007 19:35

Who is the MN India Knight outed? Noticed that most of her "choice quotes" were plucked from trashy websites.

BBBee · 16/09/2007 19:43

Who is the MN India Knight outed????

Spidermama · 16/09/2007 19:44

Monkeytrousers you are my new heroine because you called them the McGanns.

I didn't know there was anyone left it the world who doesn't know loads of minute details about this family, and you call them the McGanns. Priceless!

LIZS · 16/09/2007 19:49

"Who is the MN India Knight outed? Noticed that most of her "choice quotes" were plucked from trashy websites. "

You mean Krazykoolkazza ? Trouble is most reaaders won't differentiate between MN and any other website named, trashy or otherwise.

It isn't that recent either , about 7th, and of course was only selectively quoted so lost some of the context.

ELF1981 · 16/09/2007 23:22

They may as well just name the whole of Portugals population and tourists as suspects, because from the sounds of it, ANY of them could have done "it".

Pan · 16/09/2007 23:23

Edam - it was at a formal social occassion...my dad warned me beforehand "Don't start...you'll never stop" Fair enough.
