Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

why is it a 'load of crap' you don't know for a fact that that man wasn't involved, just as we don't know for a fact he was.

Do you really not find that picture a bit disturbing because I do

ScoobyDooooo · 16/09/2007 10:40

Can only add other pictures to my photo bucket s190.photobucket.com/albums/z125/Scoobydoooooooo/Picture/?action=view&current=12.jpg

HorribleHorace · 16/09/2007 10:42

that is very scary imo

kimi · 16/09/2007 11:25

What ever the out come the McCanns life as they knew it is over nothing will ever be the same again, and I think fingers will always be pointed (unless their child turns up safe and well).
Poor poor family.

Pabby · 16/09/2007 11:28

I think it's odd that the media haven't published anything about that man in the photos. We've had everyone else's names but nothing surrounding him.

HorribleHorace · 16/09/2007 11:38

maybe he's a police officer

kimi · 16/09/2007 11:40

I do think that the Portugal police have messed up, I know they do things in a different way, and child abduction is not something they have had to deal with often, but I do think it was badly dealt with.
They have run round in circles and to not seal off the apartment, let people wonder in and out and then take days to collect DNA that could have been compromised by the amount of people that were allowed to come and go is just madness.

I do think they have it in for the McCanns as it makes them look bad and might put tourist off going to Portugal, and therefore lose money (and oh how everyone worships the mighty buck).

There is still a little girl (or god forbid her body) out there and one way or another she needs to be found.

Her poor family are in a living hell.

Pabby · 16/09/2007 11:53

Ooh a police officer even more of a scary thought!

Pabby · 16/09/2007 11:54

Also agree about this being bad for tourism too. Very convenient for the theory to now be that Madeleine's body was dumped at sea and that they'll never find her......

ScoobyDooooo · 16/09/2007 12:51

I also agree about tourism, i think this man is part of the police i did see photos of him also in the all in one green outfits himself.

Not sure why the media have not picked up on him but maybe just maybe this could be the beginning.

kimi · 16/09/2007 14:03

Mail on Sunday makes for interesting reading today.

Still its far too nice a day to sit on the PC, been for coffee and now going to build hotwheels with DS2.

edam · 16/09/2007 14:10

I posted about the Portugese officer in charge of the investigation before. I understood he was being investigated himself for beating a false confession out of the mother of another missing child.

Someone else on MN said he had been removed from the case, but looks (from the Mail, admittedly) as if he's still there.

So how on earth can there be any confidence in the police investigation?! Seems this guy, at least, if not his colleagues, has a habit of pinning the crime on the mother. And his colleagues must have known what he was up to in the previous case...

kimi · 16/09/2007 14:16

Seems like a corrupt police force to me, love the life on mars ref though

Gateau · 16/09/2007 14:25

I've just been looking over the posts re this topic and I am quite amazed some people have wasted time getting snotty with each other about differences of opinion when NONE of us know what actually went on.

Jennifer8 · 16/09/2007 14:50

Scooby, doesn't your first link say he's been identified and interviewed? Or have I misread?

TakeMetoBedorLosemeForever · 16/09/2007 14:59

never has a situation been so confused, so unsupported ny fact or explanation, so dreadful to all concerned, my heart goes out to them.

I hope everyone is still looking out for Madeleine, until one salient fact emerges that is not 'inconclusive'or'suspected'

Pan · 16/09/2007 15:16

Would luuurve to see any direct confirmation that the investigator has such a history. Smells like another "McCann-supporters" defamation, a complaint at how those beastly johnny foreigner types are treating our people.

Highlander · 16/09/2007 15:32

PMSL at the Private Eye link

edam · 16/09/2007 15:35

Oh for heaven's sake Pan, it's a matter of public record.

edam · 16/09/2007 15:39

it's here in The Times who generally don't make stuff up

Quite, Sue.

JeremyVile · 16/09/2007 15:47

Edam, I seem to recall that you were all for the halting of the unpleasant discussions on here re MM.

I think you and others may have missed the point that for a lot of people, it was not just the finger pointing at the McCanns tat was irritating it was also the ignorant comments about the Portuguese police.

I personally find it really odd that people who truthfully know nothing about the ins and outs of the investigation accuse the police of being corrupt, inept and of 'framing' the McCanns in order to protect their own.

Its all pretty distasteful and IMO hints at an underlying racism/superiority complex.

Tottie32 · 16/09/2007 16:01

blimey i find that photo quite disturbing

veraduckworthshandbag · 16/09/2007 16:01

Oh so now we are racist because we don't think the police have done a very good job!
If had been the British police who had made such a spectacular f*&$ up and we had commented on it then what would we be?

God can no one have a discussion with out some one turning it in to a race thing?

People of all races fuck up and if we are not allowed to say so because we are a different race and therefor racist god help us all.

Can we not have one discussion without it turning in to the whole race card thing?
I know the think her on mumsnet is to try and be more PC then the next person but it really is getting tiresome now.
