Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

The portuguese police have fucked up big time and the poor, poor McCann's will suffer as a result no matter what the "conclusion"
I said they would make a hash of it back in may and was torn to shreds, i hate being right in situations like this.

The private eye article about the media coverage is on this link here.

If you are easily offended please don't scroll down as their is a rather tasteless joke on there.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/09/2007 23:54

Oh my heart breaks for that poor little girl.

Just seen an item on the news. Such a pretty, happy little girl. Wish I hadnt seen. Am feeling quite fragile.

That poor little darling. I hope she is safe and well but I fear she isnt.

ScoobyDooooo · 16/09/2007 00:06

Have seen quite a bit of news, it has been said that on portugese tv -

police chief Alipio Ribeiro said on Portuguese TV that DNA tests on the car were not conclusive

British experts also attacked the forensic evidence trumpeted by Portuguese police as proof of the McCanns' involvement.
They said it was so "flawed and unreliable" it could never be relied on in a fair trial.

Also have always wondered who this man was as there is other pictures of same man walking with Robert Murat & portugese police AFTER Madeleine went missing.

I know what we need

we need miss marple

Monkeytrousers · 16/09/2007 08:58

Just my 2 pence worth-

re the DNA - Madeleline's clothes were transported to the most recent appartment in the hirecare. This article in the Guardian yesterday gives a good layman's account of collecting and processing DNA today.

Most importantly, there is a presumption of innocence in any civilised society until proven otherwise. Most of the people presuming guilt here should turn their critical gaze themselves not the McGanns - or at least watch '12 angry men', though I'd hate to think of any of them in a jury with the explicit predudice they hold for human frailty.

totaleclipse · 16/09/2007 09:02

I read somewhere, I forget now, that testing of the hair in the boot could'nt even determine the sex it came from.

deltamum · 16/09/2007 09:24

The media beast, which the McCann so gladly court up until now, has turned on them. What do they expect? I understand why they made such a big campaign for the search of Madeleine, as we all would when faced with the imcompetence of the Portuguese police (makes PC Plum looks like Inspector Poirot), but to go as far as meeting the Pope and that Gerry McCann was going to appear in Edinburgh Festival?

I really felt for them at the beginning, but now they just appeared to be too over exposed. I mostly resist participating in discussion about Madeleine, (think this is the 3rd time since the disappearance) as I find that we do not have the right or the knowledge to make an opinion in such heart breaking and delicate matters.

Monkeytrousers · 16/09/2007 09:27

So blame the McGann's (in desperate need) and not the "media beast" - nice logic.

Visiting the pope was a personal thing for them, to help give them hope and stregh, the media just followed.

jeez, I 'm not religeous and I can ubnderstand this.

totaleclipse · 16/09/2007 09:32

Ooooh he's a lovely man that Richard Branson

UCM · 16/09/2007 09:40

Whether media exposure is right or wrong, there is absolutely no way we could forget Madeleine, which you never know, could eventually find her. Long shot I know.

Monkeytrousers · 16/09/2007 09:52

FGS, even at the top of the India Knight piece is a headline asking ?what do you think? Have your say? It?s mad, completely insane.

I think the media indulges the very worst of our insane, hysterical natures - critical self analysis and restraint seem to be anachronisms.

HorribleHorace · 16/09/2007 10:20

gosh, that photo is quite alarming, with that man standing there like that. And to be in a photo with Robert Murat too, that's very odd. I hope they have investigated it fully

LIZS · 16/09/2007 10:22

and in the India Knight article Krazykoolkazza gets a quote on behalf of MN. Overlylong piece imo but some insights on how opinion has turned as people seek to distance themselves from what has happened to others and any remote possibiltiy of it happening to them.

And today we learn that the dna "evidence", on which so many unequivocal posts have been based, is rather less conclusive that has been headlined, what a shock

ScoobyDooooo · 16/09/2007 10:22

I do actually have the other photo got it off another site but can't remember where not sure how i can add it here though?

I think that photo is very alarming & strange but who knows.

ScoobyDooooo · 16/09/2007 10:24

I has been stated that when the McCanns moved to that other aprtment they packed the car up with there things, it states the hair could have come from, a hairbrush, bed covers, pillow or things like this.

I honestly bellieve the police are taking the wrong route & are going to fall flat on there faces before long!

UtterRubbish · 16/09/2007 10:27

What a lot of crap about the photo. Talk about amateur sleuths. Let's hope you're never in vicinity of a criminal or a victim of a crime, because we'll be locking you up and throwing away the key!

ScoobyDooooo · 16/09/2007 10:30

Oh it is not just the fact he is in the background of that phote it is the fact he is also in 2 other pictures with Robert murat & the portugese police, he may be totally innocent & hopefully has been interviewed.

ScoobyDooooo · 16/09/2007 10:30

Why change your name for that post anyway
