WendyWeber - I've just read your link to the Skipton newspaper, and read what Kate McCann said at the time re. their visit to the Baptism. I guess I understand their reasons now for going, and it was very brave of them to do so.

I still don't get what aloha meant in her last post.. I hope she re-reads my posts and sees that I wasn't suggesting anything as awful as what she seemed to think.

I just think it's a shame that this sad case can't be discussed on here without some people taking others words out of context, and in some cases, twisting things that people have said to make it sound like they said something a lot worse iyswim.

WendyWeber · 06/09/2007 23:31

I thought the results of the blood analysis were that they had nothing to do with the McCanns? Other people had stayed in the apartment after they left it, the samples were taken by British forensic investigators after that and they were unrelated?

(t has to be admitted that Portuguese police investigations aren't a patch on ours.)

mylastrolo · 06/09/2007 23:32

God almighty there is no way it can be them. I can't even consider it to shocking!!

Snowhite · 06/09/2007 23:34

Live news statment is due at 11.30.

UCM · 06/09/2007 23:36

The bit about being taken out in an ice cream van referred to Kate McCann being questioned for '8 hours' by the way. I doubt if this actually happened and I think the police probably found a way for her to go unencumbered from the station etc.

dinny · 06/09/2007 23:37

statement tonight? surely tomorrow?

Snowhite · 06/09/2007 23:38

No tonight BBC news.

tortoiseSHELL · 06/09/2007 23:40

on news 24 now

drosophila · 06/09/2007 23:56

What is the statement then?

forsale · 06/09/2007 23:59

i cant see anythng on internet - am surprised to be honest

tortoiseSHELL · 06/09/2007 23:59

they are still waiting for it. This is the problem with 24 hour news imo! No news is reported.

drosophila · 07/09/2007 00:05

Is it from the police. Are they constantly saying 'we are awaiting a statement from the Police'

tortoiseSHELL · 07/09/2007 00:06

no, from their lawyer.

Snowhite · 07/09/2007 00:10

I think it is from kate's lawer.

Snowhite · 07/09/2007 00:11

lawyer

putitdown · 07/09/2007 00:53

here we go

Isababel · 07/09/2007 01:00

It was in NEws 24 a minute ago... and I just heard the final part of it. Aparently something related to the Mccans sueing the news paper.

tinkybelle · 07/09/2007 01:44

i just saw sky news report and it said she had been questioned for 11 hrs with her lawyer present and she is still being treated as a witness

the report also said that a 'source' had said the forensice development centered around their hire car.

Budababe · 07/09/2007 06:50

Not commenting on anything else in this thread but just to those of you who reckoned Kate McCann was too calm. Her mother was interviewed earlier on in this case and said that in the first few days she "held my daughter as she howled like an animal in pain". That image has stuck with me.

flightattendant · 07/09/2007 07:27

I know, that sounds horrible. I think she would probably have felt that way if something had happened to Maddy, though, even if she knew about it or it was an accident etc.
Poor thing must be going through hell whatever happened.

wannaBe · 07/09/2007 07:55

people are not questioned separately for 11 hours with a lawyer present just to go over existing statement/be brought up to date on new evidence - get real.

And they are "being questioned as witnesses" because their status has not been upgraded to arguito (suspect). When Robert Murat was first questioned, the police also said that he was not a suspect and that he was being questioned as a witness, and his status was updated later. It's the way Portuguese law works, you can't call someone a suspect unless they have been given the status. That's not to say the Mccanns will be named as suspects, but just because they are currently considered witnesses doesn't mean their status can't/won't be updated to suspect.

wannaBe · 07/09/2007 08:14

correspondent on 5 live has just said that, according to the family spokes person, so not media speculation, Kate Mccann is going to be declared a formal suspect later today.

tiredemma · 07/09/2007 08:25

Thats very sad.

I still believe she has nothing to do with it.

Pixiefish · 07/09/2007 08:25

Nor me

ELF1981 · 07/09/2007 08:31

I really, really, really hope with every fibre of my being that the parents are NOT involved.
