wannabe thank you for managing to put it so much better than i could.

WendyWeber · 06/09/2007 22:58

here

(Someone I work with passed them in the street in Skipton - I wouldn't have known otherwise. It was a very private visit)

noddyholder · 06/09/2007 22:58

The closest to the victim are nearly always suspects in these cases. There is nothing unusual in that. Why do you think people are so unwilling to even consider they may be involved Is it because they are white middle class doctors?

WendyWeber · 06/09/2007 22:59

Why strange, MummyPenguin? They are Catholic - it was the baptism of their godchildren.

MummyPenguin · 06/09/2007 23:00

Tiredemma - bloody hell, what are tomorrow's headlines? I wonder if they're from The Express? That paper has carried ongoing headlines about the case and they've got more and more bizarre. Did anyone see the 'McCann's car keys smelt of a corpse' headline? I didn't even read the following article.

MummyPenguin · 06/09/2007 23:01

I'm Catholic too, but God forbid I was in their situation, I can't imagine me being able to face anyone, much less a family gathering at what is usually a happy time.

handlemecarefully · 06/09/2007 23:01

Unimpressed. Please lay off. It's cheap

dinny · 06/09/2007 23:02

must be Express and Sun, I bet

WendyWeber · 06/09/2007 23:02

It was the baptism of their godchildren. Do Catholic godparents normally skip the baptism?

Sheesh.

wannaBe · 06/09/2007 23:03

I think that people are reluctant to contemplate the possibility they could be involved because in a way they would feel betrayed.

People have embraced this case in a way that no other case has been taken on. people have campaigned/sent emails/worn yellow ribbons/donated money to the "fighting fund". If it turns out the parents had some involvement in, or even knowledge of madeleine's disappearance, those who have supported them, who have defended them, will feel that they have been betrayed imo. And if they are suspects, will the fund, that was set up out of peoples' goodwill, be used to help defend them?

MummyPenguin · 06/09/2007 23:04

It's only my opinion. Obviously they could face it, I just don't think I could, that's all.

dinny · 06/09/2007 23:04

the police have SAID they are not suspects for goodness sake

aloha · 06/09/2007 23:05

Yes, of course, going to the baptism of your godchild is a sure sign that you murdered your own little girl
HOrrible, revoluting, disgusting speculation.

Hurlyburly · 06/09/2007 23:05

Let's not get irate - let's just ride off into the sunset - maybe managing a careless and insouciant wave.

Hurlyburly · 06/09/2007 23:06

xposted with Aloha

Too late to suggest the not getting irate piece of advice - but I have a spare pony here for the ride off into the sunset.

MummyPenguin · 06/09/2007 23:07

I hope that wasn't directed at me aloha? I didn't say that at all.

handlemecarefully · 06/09/2007 23:07

Hurlyburly - you do make me laugh!

UCM · 06/09/2007 23:09

It's terribly annoying that the Portugeuse police don't release anything which fires the media up into a frenzy.

dinny · 06/09/2007 23:10

Aloha, how can journalists get away with this speculation in UK tabloids?

UCM · 06/09/2007 23:11

It sells newspapers, apparently.

divastrop · 06/09/2007 23:11

wouldnt it be quite normal to re-question witnesses in the light of new evidence being found?

UCM · 06/09/2007 23:12

I stopped at a booth today as I saw MADDIE in big letters, then realised it was the express, so didn't buy it, or it might have been the mirror

noddyholder · 06/09/2007 23:15

I would have thought the police would go to the mccanns home and give them the news from the labs together.Seems harsh to put them through 8+ hrs of questioning if they are witnesses

UCM · 06/09/2007 23:22

Noddy, She was probably out of the back in an ice cream van after 40 mins or so and they bring her back for lunch.

The Portuguese people are very fed up with it all apparently.

bobbysmum07 · 06/09/2007 23:25

But the police have hauled these people in for questioning after dna tests of blood found in both their apartment and rental car have been returned. If that blood belonged to that kid, they are involved. To continue to reject that as a possibility based on the fact that they are white middle class doctors and therefore one (two) of you(because let's face it, there isn't actually anything that points away from them as suspects) is just delusional.

And why is this any more ghoulish than any other news story? Why shouldn't people discuss it?
