I haven't had time to swith the box on or the radio. Wondered if anyone heard anything??

OP posts:
divastrop · 06/09/2007 22:18

are the porugese newspapers those reports are from tabloids?

McEdam · 06/09/2007 22:21

Desi, I think you are thinking about defamation - libel and slander. And no, repeating what someone else said is no defence, every person who publishes a libel is equally vulnerable for being sued.

tiredemma · 06/09/2007 22:23

I dont believe for one minute that the McCanns have anything to do with their daughters disappeance.

dinny · 06/09/2007 22:24

why is it changing, Schnorbitz?

there is no way they can be involved, it makes NO sense.

schnorbitz · 06/09/2007 22:30

i have been 100% they had nothing to do with it all the way along. Today i have been thinking about MM (my DD is same age and i often think of MM ang how heartbroken Kate McCann must be) and something just changed. iread the news aerticles with a different feeling that i can't shake.

I hope to God that I am wrong.

kerrykatona · 06/09/2007 22:34

my dh said from the start he thought the parents were involved, only because he felt they were being to calm, anyone who has lost a child (even for a few minutes) knows that feeling of utter panic and how quick the tears come on.

he felt that they would of been in tears more often etc.

this is of course just his opinion but i think that anything is possible in this case now.

dinny · 06/09/2007 22:36

but WHY fgs would they have stayed 4 months creating publicity? NO WAY, don't believe a word of it!

kerrykatona · 06/09/2007 22:38

no idea, has kate mccann even been back to the uk since this all started.

kerrykatona · 06/09/2007 22:38

meaning when maddie went missing

McEdam · 06/09/2007 22:40

Kerry, the McCanns are doctors. They are used to being calm in a crisis, used to coping with emotional torment. It's possible that they automatically went into 'coping' mode, the one that comes without thinking when you've been doing it so long.

Desiderata · 06/09/2007 22:41

A mother would not want to leave the place where her child was abducted. Of that I'm sure.

WendyWeber · 06/09/2007 22:43

Yes they have been back to the UK.

handlemecarefully · 06/09/2007 22:43

It's unseemly to speculate.

ScoobyDooooo · 06/09/2007 22:43

I believe she did return once with Gerry & the twins!

tiredemma · 06/09/2007 22:43

The mother has not been back has she??

I thought that the dad had but not the mum.

Howdydoody · 06/09/2007 22:44

Kerry I think the tears and panic come when you have found the child - while they are lost shock takes over and normal reactions are stifled - you go into auto-pilot. They are still in that state. If MM is ever reunited it will take years probably for them to recover, if they ever do.

You cant fake the total grieving you see in their eyes.

kerrykatona · 06/09/2007 22:45

i am not saying that i think the parents are guilty, i just think that a lot of things dont make any sense (as do a lot of other people)

i also think that no matter how calm you are at work/in a crisis etc you could not prepare yourself to cope with something like like.

hopefully more will come out tomorrow that takes the spotlight of the parents

aloha · 06/09/2007 22:46

When your child vanishes maybe you are in a position to tell other mothers how to behave in a way that would satisfy morbid and ghoulish speculation

Hurlyburly · 06/09/2007 22:46

I agree with Handlemecarefully.

It's rubbernecking.

kerrykatona · 06/09/2007 22:50

"When your child vanishes maybe you are in a position to tell other mothers how to behave in a way that would satisfy morbid and ghoulish speculation"

thats not what i am doing at all, and god forbid i really dont want to think about one of my dc vanishing, but as a mum of 2 dd's who are similar in age to maddie i cant help but want to follow the story and hope for the best possible outcome.

Desiderata · 06/09/2007 22:51

It is ghoulish and it is rubbernecking, but the case is spotlighted in the international media. This case has been thrust into the public eye, for very good reason I'm sure, by the parents themselves.

tiredemma · 06/09/2007 22:52

tomorrows tabloid headlines have just been on the news. fucking shocking and outrageous.

WendyWeber · 06/09/2007 22:55

Yes, Kate McCann has been back to the UK.

wannaBe · 06/09/2007 22:56

I don't think it's possible to assess someone's level of guilt/innocence on their appearance in public, different people act differently in different situations, and after all, all we see is how people behave in public, we don't see what goes on behind closed doors.

But there is a lot about this case that doesn't add up. There were a lot of inconsistencies, a lot of things that didn't make sense, such as the parents' insistence that the apartment had been broken into when the police have confirmed this wasn't the case, the fact the police weren't called for some time after it was discovered Madeleine was missing, the fact that Kate Mccann left her twins, still sleeping, alone in the apartment to go back to the restaurant to inform Gerry that MAdeleine was missing, why would you do that if you thought your child had been abducted - how could you then walk away from the other two children, not knowing if the abductor was on his way back for them?

I don't think anyone can say that there is no way the parents could be involved, the fact is we just don't know.

MummyPenguin · 06/09/2007 22:57

Apparently Kate McCann went back to the UK sometime in July, I think it was, to attend a family baptism. That struck me as a bit strange..

McEdam, I hear what you're saying about the McCann's being doctors, so having a coping mechanism - but when it's your own child? Surely that would go to pot?

I, like others, have had a feeling often that all is not what it seems with the case, and sometimes the actions and behaviour of the parents has struck me as being strange, given their tragic circumstances.. however, that's only me as an outsider observing through the papers and tv. God only knows how you cope, act, react or anything when you're in such a horrendous situation.

I'm not going to say any more on the subject. I very rarely post on the Madeleine threads because I always get jumped on.
