Geeze, that poor, poor kid who they tried to drown. :( That's just awful. Obviously they were awful to all their children but that bit upset me the most.

I knew from the headline this would be about that awful news.
I cannot get my head around it, those poor, poor children.
I know nobody else is to blame but I wonder what on earth the rest of the family were going through knowing they’d got together and had children?

Those POOR children. Two lovely boys slaughtered by them, and the other 4 kiddies (still alive thank GOD!) having to live with what has happened.

Those poor children. I can’t comprehend how anyone could do this to another human being let alone their own children.

Fearing they would be found out by the authorities and their children taken into care, they hatched a plot to kill them. Police said the plan was for Machin to discover what had happened and raise the alarm.

How does a mind think like that? That I will kill the kids rather than let them be taken into care? They didn't see the children as people but as things, possessions. The mother said I gave you life, I can take it away.

It always floors me that TWO people can be this evil. How did one of them not see how wrong it was and try to prevent it?

And why did they call the police? It makes no sense.

I read elsewhere Social Services knew of their relationship in the 90s.So before children.But surely they should have at least investigated.

Horrendous case. The reports from the court regarding the impact on the younger children were so upsetting, their whole life will be affected by this. And the 2 they managed to kill, such sweet looking young lads. It is just incomprehensible.

Per the BBC the mum gave the eldest 4 children tablets the night before hoping that they wouldn't be alive in the morning and then called the dad when that didn't work

Yes, they reported it on the bbc news as 'a mother was convicted of murdering two children...' then the dads role was mentioned at the end

It's heinous. Those poor children. I wonder how their bizarre home life and the lies used to cover it were kept under wraps at school - they'd been led to believe that their 'real' dad had died in WW2

There's obviously something extremely wrong when a half brother and sister have been in a sexual "relationship" (I use inverted commas since evidence suggests this is a cycle of abuse rather than a true loving relationship) since they were in their teens (if reports are accurate - if they're 35 and 39 now and SS were aware of the relationship in their 90s, they would have been early-late teens when it became obvious to other people).

The Guardian says that Barrass suffered sexual and physical abuse and was put into care herself. I would bet money Machin her half brother was involved in the sexual abuse and was almost certainly abused himself but now I'm speculating

I only hope the remaining four children can break the cycle their parents and grandparents have been perpetuating for god knows how long.

I fear this situation (hopefully not murders though) is going to come up increasingly in large estates where men and women have numerous children to different partners.

Their kids are meeting and procreating without even knowing they are half siblings. It's really quite scary.

Unlike many other cases where children are killed by their relatives, the punishment does at least go some way to fit the crime.

An horrific case and I wonder whether the relevant SS department will have questions to answer as to why all of the children weren't taken into care some time ago or at birth.

Those poor children growing up with monsters. Hell on earth. We have a fantastic 13 year old. I can't imagine harming him in any way. So terribly sad. I hope they never get out of jail.
