made me feel sick.

BBBee · 11/08/2007 10:44

took her 2-3 days to die from her injuries - I don't understand - they must have been in the house and she was lying there dying.

3andnomore · 11/08/2007 10:54

Sickening....lets hope that the mother and her boyfriend will suffer greatly in prison, they definately deserve it

LaBoheme · 11/08/2007 13:09

That's what I thought BBB. She would have to have been slowly dying in front of them. That poor, poor child. Fing monsters.

People with drug addictions can never be trusted to look after a child. I went to school with a girl who didn't even recognise her baby when she was high, (try caring for a newborn on crack) didn't know where she was for days on end. I have also been privvy to many cases, in my last job, where children have been left with such parents and the drugs take precedence over the care, nurture and basic human rights a child deserves when they are brought into the world in order to grow and thrive. At worst, things like this horrendous case occur, at best, corners are cut at the expense of the child. They should be removed immediately imo.

allgonebellyup · 11/08/2007 13:17

i smoke cannabis and i would never dream of treating a child that way.

its not cannabis, its the people themselves that are the problem here.

Peachy · 11/08/2007 13:33

I've never done drugs but nonetheless recognise there is a vast difference between a joint and other drugs such as crack- lots of people do marijuana recreationally (or therapeutically) and there's a massive difference between that and addcitions to other (not all other before I get jumped oN!) drugs- or indeed additions- whether to alcohol, food,...

Peachy · 11/08/2007 13:35

There are a few children-of-addicts-then-fostered at a SN group I attend, its very as in many cases the Sn is thought to relate to the addiction.

I do think there are useless social workers out there (usually burned out) but I also know from experience their workload is unmanageable and until it is sorted out these cases will sadly occur.

jangly · 11/08/2007 13:49

I wonder if there is some way the social workers concerned could be brought to book for letting this happen. I mean, they are drawing their salaries for doing this job and then neglecting to do it.

Dinosaur · 11/08/2007 14:00

The newspaper report I read today said that when social services visited, they checked her for injuries and that her weight was okay, and she was fine at that point. The injuries seem to have been sustained over a short period subsequent to that.

So perhaps (given how overworked social services undoubtedly are) it wasn't unreasonable for them to close the file.

sambuca · 11/08/2007 14:12

PEOPLE LIKE THAT DONT DESERVE KIDS.THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT CANT HAVE CHILDREN AND HERE ARE THESE SO CALLED PARENTS THAT ARE ABUSING AND MURDERING THERE CHILDREN IF THERE GOING TO DO THAT WHY HAVE KIDS AT ALL???????????????[ANGRY]PEOPLE LIKE THAT MAKE MY BLOOD BOIL?

McEdam · 11/08/2007 14:28

I do wonder why people who actively hate their children don't just call social services and say 'have them'. Are they too incapable of reasoning to do that? Would ss bother to turn up?

divastrop · 11/08/2007 16:25

who knows what goes through their minds.some people believe their child deserves the 'punishments' because they are being 'naughty'.some people are too stupid to know what they are doing is wrong and think that nobody has the right to interfere in the way they bring up their children.i havent known anybody personally who was beating their child, but i have known drug dealers with children who thought it was ok to shut the kids in their bedrooms all day while all and sundry would be coming to the house to score.sadly thats just every day life for some children.

Peachy · 11/08/2007 18:04

sambuca clearly nobody can argue that they dont deserve kids, its bloody obvious- but short of sterilsiing everybody who you dont ,ike the look of, its a pretty pointless argument tbh.

Peachy · 11/08/2007 18:04

sorry caouldnt argue- gramamr out

saffy202 · 11/08/2007 22:56

McEdam - sadly some parents wouldn't want to give up their kids because they would lose their money

Unfortunately there is another story breaking on Sky News of a baby on the at risk register dying of horrific injuries

divastrop · 11/08/2007 23:08

theres too many horrible things happening.

fryalot · 11/08/2007 23:13

when the police searched the house, they found no toys at all.

Just a couple of hair bobbles.

McEdam · 11/08/2007 23:52

makes you wonder why the sws didn't query the lack of any toys. The poor girl used to sit in the window for hours because there was nothing to play with, fgs - how can the sws not have noticed? Did they not think it was important? Are there lots of children living in similar conditions?

peachy i read your comment and i didnt say sterilise them.they should b closly monitored when they get of jail if they do decide to have anymore kids.maybe time in jail she might sit back and relise what she has done but then again she might not.she gets what she deserves while she is in jail.not many people tolerate that expecially if there are mothers in jail that cant wait to get out and see there children.

JudgeJudyAndExecutioner · 12/08/2007 10:08

They are evil

Peachy · 12/08/2007 11:01

In general abuse isn't like this- its incipient, its often done by parents who are loving but have too many other issues to be able to cope. This sort of abuse is very much the rarest- thank Heaven- how the aprents could be anything other than mentally ill I do not know. Saddened tor ead that if they left jail after the minimum term they'd still be in there mid fifties! In these cases. life should mean life.

lack of oys is soemthing a SW should pick up on, but short of searching the house I gues its hard. Whats the first thing many of us do when e have a visitor? pack away all traces of child. We're fortunate enough to have a playroom (sacrificed the dining room) so we just close the door- to anyomne in our front room (not atm, trains and an inflatable lobster in domination!) after a tidy up, there are no toys.

I think you can tell a lot from photographs though. One Mum I used to work with, gave up her first child after her are was less than acceptable. when she had twins later on poeple argued she was emtmtionally cold and didnt love her children (at the SW planning meeting)- in relaity after I vivited, her entire house was plastered in pictures of her daughter. Five yeras later she ahd matured, and is an excelletn Mum to the girls.

Sayingt hat i don't think we have many photos about either, all in boxes waiting to be sorted. Must remember to rlave playroom open when we get any MW visits!

sambuca · 12/08/2007 13:30

all good peachy.you have a point.getting life but only having to serve 23 years is not acceptable.where does the justice come in to that.kids have as much right as we do.they slip through the cracks all the time and then sw wonder why so many kids are being abused and murdered.there was one at swan hill{sa}last year her injuries were that of a major car accident.and many more since then.

donnie · 12/08/2007 13:37

I actually don't see why murderers like this should not be sterilised. Child killers should never be allowed near children again. As far as I am concerned they should be forcibly prevented from having children ever again.

I am really angry at this report - how could they have slipped through the net like this?

I am actually glad that they will be terrorised in prison although I realise that makes me sound brutal and violent. But some people are so vile they just bloody deserve it.

princessmel · 12/08/2007 13:43

This is so sad. She used to stand looking out of her window all day. Where was her mum while she was doing that??
