I am normally a non-judgmental, open minded person, but those two are evil itself.

lisad123 · 10/08/2007 20:35

thanks for pointing that out nightshade. All proffessionals were resposiable for this little ones care and by the sounds of it ss only made one or two visits. they have to have huge reasons to look for bruises, normally from hospital. SS have to make a decision on 2 hour visit, and most people can "act" for that time.

That poor girl, seems all adults failed her in the worst possible way

Where was her dad? He's spoken the press about this. Where was he? The mother's boyfriend had a long criminal history. He was known to have substance abuse problems. If this were your kid, wouldn't you have been ALL over the police, the GP surgery, social services and the court to get her REMOVED from such a 'home'?

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 10/08/2007 20:39

Hope they get some serious beatings in jail....the bastards......what a waste of tax money letting them live....should frigging hang!!!!

lisad123 · 10/08/2007 20:41

the father of the girl was dealing the drugs to the boyfriend! Thats where he was.

Lovely.

This smacks of the case up here where the little boy was living with his mum who was a known heroin addict.

His father lived on a neighbouring estate, where he was addicted to alcohol and skunk.

Somehow or another, this 3-year-old boy came to be stuck in a maisonette in a council tower for 3-5 weeks - no one can be sure - with the corpse of his mother, who had overdosed herself to death on heroin.

He had completely slipped through the cracks.

Luckily there was food in the home for him to eat off.

divastrop · 10/08/2007 20:46

the mother 'told him to stop'

oh,thats ok then.sadly, though, some mothers can and do hurt their own children, and it can go on for years before ss do anything.

divastrop · 10/08/2007 20:48

expat-i remember hearing about that case, didnt realise the mum was a heroin addict though.that poor little boy

yogimum · 10/08/2007 20:49

they should also be sterilised whilst in prison so when they get out they can't have anymore children.

Leati · 10/08/2007 20:50
Sad
NadineBaggott · 10/08/2007 20:52

"In a statement Leticia's father, Zaheer Hussain, and his family said: "She was a beautiful little girl, always happy and smiling, and she had everything to live for."

I find that odd, well not odd but ykwim

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 20:52

She had a long history of heroin addiction and the kid had been in and out of care.

But when she got him back, amazingly enough, weeks and weeks went passed without a single check on her or him.

Finally, the nursery contacted the HV.

There have been two other such cases of children left in the care of known drug addicts which have ended in death for the children here in the recent past: 11-week-old Caleb Ness was sent home from hospital after birth with his mother, a known heroin addict and prostitute and her boyfriend, also a known drug addict. He was beaten to death by her boyfriend.

And a two-year-old boy who drank his parents methadone that they left lying around whilst they got high and overdosed.

Sorry, but I think any child born to a drug user or alcoholic should be immediately removed from birth until the parent can prove they're clean OR if their parent lives with a criminal or drug/alcohol abuser.

KitsAndBits · 10/08/2007 20:57

This made me cry when I saw it on the news, and I hugged my 2 yr old for a long time after.

The photos of her little smiley face were haunting, and I can picture her stood at the window.

I hope they both rot in jail, bastards

jimmyjamas · 10/08/2007 21:01

Totally agree expatinscotland.

pagwatch · 10/08/2007 21:03

I was pleased to see the tariff set at an appropriate level.
So sad

talkative · 10/08/2007 21:06

that poor little girl , what sick bloody people and especially the little girls so called mum. people like that should never be allowed to have children, if only that little girl had been helped sooner by social services

expatinscotland · 10/08/2007 21:07

My SIL was adopted from foster - my ILs were her foster parents - at the age of 4 after she was removed from the abusive and neglectful home of her junkie mother and her junkie boyfriend.

When she came to the ILs, her little body was covered in cuts and bruises and rashes. She had asthma and rickets and was recovering from 3 broken ribs and a broken arm.

divastrop · 10/08/2007 21:16

i think the ss round here must be doing their jobs then,as i have known of 3 babies born to heroin addicts who were taken straight into care from the hospital, and there was a case a few years ago where a gas man reported a couple to ss because of the state of the house.they were both found to be using heroin and neglecting their 2.5 year old dd,and she was taken into care(her gran later adopted her)and the parents prosecuted.

its a shame it isnt like that everywhere.i know there will always be cases that never get reported untill its too late, but this little girl's death could so easily have been prevevnted.

bookwormtailmum · 10/08/2007 21:18

I hate to say it but in a few weeks time there'll be another case like this somewhere in the UK . I don't understand how someone can abuse their child (or let someone else abuse them) - if they don't want them, let them go to someone who'll love them and bring them up. There's plenty of folk crying out to adopt children.

lisad123 · 10/08/2007 21:22

its really difficult to make a decision about whether to remove a child from home. Being a drug user does not mean being a bad parent same as not all people with mental health dificulties are bad parents.

tribpot · 10/08/2007 21:23

The only thing I want to add to this discussion is to highlight that not every methadone user is a 'drug user'. Methadone is used as a painkiller for people with long term pain syndromes and yes, it is a major issue for us how we have such medications in the house. There is always a risk of ds somehow getting hold of methadone or any one of a number of different, similar, controlled drugs that dh has.

I am utterly destroyed by what this little girl went through, and wish her parents every possible discomfort in prison.

Upwind · 10/08/2007 21:26

I don't understand what is going on with SS, how can so many children be left with abusive junkie parents?

IME, addicts almost always put their addictions before their families and friends. The presumption should be that their children are taken away unless they can prove themselves to be capable of providing a safe home.

In this case SS were clearly negligent and heads should roll - hopefully they won't do as they did in the Victoria Climbie case and sack a junior social worker while promoting the senior managers responsible

speedymama · 11/08/2007 10:26

I recently saw this on BBC website. I'm speechless and feel so sad about what they poor 4yo had to endure. I don't think she ever experienced what is to be loved.

Her evil mother and her repugnant partner should spend the rest of their lives locked up.

speedymama · 11/08/2007 10:27

This has made me cry. I am sickened by what I have read.

McEdam · 11/08/2007 10:34

My Godmother was the head of social services in Kirklees, retired 20 years ago. She would have been ashamed had any of her staff missed a case like this - in fact I'm darn sure they wouldn't. People did their jobs properly in her days and had pride in their work.
