Makes sense as to why we are ok down here in Surrey though.............................................................................................. ................................

ktmoomoo · 01/07/2007 12:11

wat a load of tripe and nonsence

Soberandsad · 01/07/2007 12:11

and they wonder why church attendance is falling!!

edam · 01/07/2007 12:12

I suppose if you are a Christian, then the story of the flood has some resonance. And those who are obessesed with homosexuality will always try to find another way to seize attention for their very un-Christian views.

I'm amazed that anyone can read the Gospels and think that Christ was with those busybodies who are intent on damming their neighbours, though.

CatIsSleepy · 01/07/2007 12:12

I heard that on the radio.
just made me laugh!!
bishop of carlisle sounds like a certifiable nutter though from that article.

southeastastra · 01/07/2007 12:13

One, the Bishop of Carlisle, even said that the introduction of pro-gay laws had provoked God to send the storms that have left thousands homeless.

oh dear!

UnquietDad · 01/07/2007 12:13

You'd think that, if God really wanted to punish the sinners, she'd send down a few careful thunderbolts to spike those who are wallowing in specific moral filth, rather than sending a blanket flood on an antire city of 530,000 people. Just a thought.

LIZS · 01/07/2007 12:13

Of course , fire and brimstone , plagues of frogs and locusts .... what else could it possibly be ? Just why is church attendance falling, I wonder ....

lol Carmenere

Chirpygirl · 01/07/2007 12:13

Ah, that'd be why I am not even close to being flooded...that or the fact that I live on a hill.

I bet that's a real comfort to those people who have lost property and irreplaceable items in floods, ffs.

CatIsSleepy · 01/07/2007 12:14

am going to start building an ark pronto. that noah had the right idea...

Soberandsad · 01/07/2007 12:14

What is worrying is that it appears to be more than one that actually think this.

UnquietDad · 01/07/2007 12:14

Take 'em in two by two, but watch out for the woodworm...

OP posts:
UnquietDad · 01/07/2007 12:15

Yes, bishops, plural, think this... worrying.

OP posts:
Hulababy · 01/07/2007 12:18

Ah that's okay then. Those people in Catcliffe and Toll Bar must feel so happier knowing that their homes are flooded and damaged, possible gone for good, because they (and us all) have sinned.

CatIsSleepy · 01/07/2007 12:18

perhaps they're hoping we'll all repent of our wicked ways and start going to church!
this just confirms my view of organised religion in general.

Hulababy · 01/07/2007 12:19

Am assuming none of the churches or church halls, etc were affected then?

BandofMuggles · 01/07/2007 12:19

Or maybe it's the goddess punishing farmers for not worshipping her anymore, but turning to these new fangled Christian/Catholic religions.

Oh wait no, that was about 2000 yrs ago

UnquietDad · 01/07/2007 12:20

And if God really had it in for gays, you'd think it'd have sent a massive tidal wave over the Pride Festival rather than random floods to Sheffield suburbs (including, presumably, the houses of various Christians).

OP posts:
BandofMuggles · 01/07/2007 12:21

I have always found these religions to be wholly self centered and self important.
Does everything have to revolve around them and their god????

FlamingTomatoes · 01/07/2007 12:21

here, it's all been started by you nutters in the tea shop, apparently

UnquietDad · 01/07/2007 12:22

It's interesting that nobody is defending this. The easy get-out is to say that they represent the "lunatic fringe" or that they are not expressing genuinely Christian sentiments - but these aren't random wackos saying this rubbish. These are LEADING figures in the major religion of this country.

OP posts:
BandofMuggles · 01/07/2007 12:25

Religion has A LOT to answer for IMO

And LOL about teas hop origin
Does caffeine and cake count then???

FlamingTomatoes · 01/07/2007 12:27

Yes, according to Mrs White, Tea and Coffee are only to be used medicinally, and not abused.

And cake is surely mere gluttony? when you could be consuming healthful cabbage and bread?

And as for that BAR you run

Soberandsad · 01/07/2007 12:28

The people who would defend this won't be on today cause it's Sunday. or they are still in church chastising us sinners!!

UnquietDad · 01/07/2007 12:30

Of course sober... I forgot that!!
I'll bump it later
