What do you think of this ?
I think it's a great idea if it stops a perv's vile behaviour.

i see no difference between somebody downloading child pornography, and someone committing the abuse themselves. they are both as vile as eachother.

TheDaVinciCod · 13/06/2007 17:14

the law doens' t eihter

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 17:15

I am utterly shocked at some of the opinions on here.

If you consider those statistics intelligently, then those who are closely monitored after having this will of course be less likely to reoffend. If they ran a placebo group they would probably find the same.

An amazing number of so called 'sex offenders' are later cleared by the courts.

The use of language such as 'paedo' and 'perv' does not help tackle this issue, it is just an example of the pure ignorance the tabloids have.

TheDaVinciCod · 13/06/2007 17:15

there was he sad case locally of a bloke in his late 50s who was hcatting wiht a 17 year old fmaily freind
she alleged he made apass at her
he denied it
foudn guiilty
sex offenders register

Aitch · 13/06/2007 17:15

so you're for killing him then?

Aitch · 13/06/2007 17:16

x-posted with cod. but i take it that the string 'em uppers would kill him nevertheless.

allgonebellyup · 13/06/2007 17:19

what about female paedophiles???
(assuming they do exist?)

harleyd · 13/06/2007 17:19

if i caught someone abusing my child, or taking pornographic pictures of them then yes i will kill them. i dont care what the law is, or what society thinks, or wether they could be rehabilitated, that is simply what i will do

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 17:22

One thing about this that bothers me, is why is it always directed at men?
Is it because men have the naturally predatory role (surely not) or because women are seen as more innocent (again surely not)

As an example, I have a friend, aged 37 who loves young boys, She has had boyfriends from 17 onwards, and this is seen as a 'quirk' by lots of our friends or something admirable, whereas if it was a man it would be another matter entirely.

allgonebellyup · 13/06/2007 17:23

i love younger men too, and that includes teenagers...my friends call me paedo as a joke

but surely if i liked children it would be serious?

lyrabelacqua · 13/06/2007 17:33

No man would be called a paedophile for going out with a 17-year-old. they are past the age of consent at this age.
if it was 10-year-olds it would be a different matter entirely.

OP posts:
meandmyflyingmachine · 13/06/2007 17:35

How about 15?

Not past the age of consent.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 17:35

I very much doubt you would take the same view if it was a male friend?
This woman is a teacher and often tells us about 'hot' boys in her gcse classes. It makes me uncomfortable, but I do not know her well enough to really find out more.

lyrabelacqua · 13/06/2007 17:37

15 would be a bit of a grey area. 15-year-old girl with 17-year-old boyfriend in most cases would be ok.
15-year-old girl with 60-year-old man is a different matter.

OP posts:
meandmyflyingmachine · 13/06/2007 17:38

I think if you are advocating the death penalty then you might want to avoid a crime with 'grey areas'.

meandmyflyingmachine · 13/06/2007 17:39

Or even just chemical castration.

lyrabelacqua · 13/06/2007 17:40

The chemical castration would be voluntary, therefore grey areas don't come into it.

colditz · 13/06/2007 17:56

peadophilia is considered to be a sexual attraction to children under the age of 12. No grey area there, I think.

meandmyflyingmachine · 13/06/2007 18:00

Really? 12 but looked 15?

Really, the thought of anyone having sex with someone so young is stomach-turning to me. But I think there is a grey area around puberty.

meandmyflyingmachine · 13/06/2007 18:03

When I was 12 I was 5ft 8 and wore a C cup bra. I did not look prepubescent. I wasn't prepubescent.

colditz · 13/06/2007 18:03

12 year old should be getting the opportunities to lie about her age to full grown men. Ideally, of course.

You can still say to a 12 year old "No you are not wearing makeup to school, no you may not have high heels, no you may not roll up your skirt and flout your uniform."

She will of course push her luck, but this should be easily spotted by a full grown man!

colditz · 13/06/2007 18:05

God, i meant should not!

meandmyflyingmachine · 13/06/2007 18:06

X posted with you colditz. I doubt very much whether a 'fully grown man' would have been able to judge my real age.

Is it right? NO

But grey area with regards to paedophilia it certainly is.

colditz · 13/06/2007 18:08

Well, under 12 then. Not many 11 year olds look over 16.

meandmyflyingmachine · 13/06/2007 18:10

But that's the whole point about it being a grey area!

12 definitely isn't, well, maybe 11...
