What do you think of this ?
I think it's a great idea if it stops a perv's vile behaviour.

Olive, I just love your angry mob- are they News of the Screws readers?

lyrabelacqua · 13/06/2007 10:30

I didn't realise what it was. I thought it was a dot.

Aitch · 13/06/2007 10:32

that way anarchy lies, harley.

Peachy · 13/06/2007 10:34

LOL Olive

If they ahve served their sentence then I would be much happier if they chose this option actually. And whilst id like the idea of rusty shears no doubt, there's a reason decisions like this aren't left to the famillies- and thats that a victim cant be expected to be impartial.

If all convictiosn were 100% I'd be prepared to sit on my liberal PC hands and say wtf lets do it but convictions arent 100% and as such if some innovent chap is even at a sligt tisk of castration then no, it cant happen imo. Besirdes as others said abuse takes many formats- the first sexual contact i ever had at 16 was abuse but invoved hands not genitals (I was actually raped later in life not by him and not whilst a child thankfully- a bad childhood set me up as Ms Victim for a while).

TaylorsMummy · 13/06/2007 10:36

castration by blunt instrument with no anaesthetic sounds a bet option to me.and locked up for life as well,in solitary with no internet,tv etc

lyrabelacqua · 13/06/2007 10:36

The fact that it's voluntary removes the innocent man scenario. If they want help, then why not give it to them. people are treated chemically for far less.

OP posts:
harleyd · 13/06/2007 10:39

but why should they be treated. i dont see it as an illness.its vile & predatory and cant be fluffed up as anything else.

oliveoil · 13/06/2007 10:42

wrap em in barbed wire, cover in salt, set on fire, roll down a hill over spikes and then shout very loudly at them with a loud speaker

TaylorsMummy · 13/06/2007 10:43

sounds good!

you forgot the crocodile infested waters at the bottom of the hill oliveoil

oliveoil · 13/06/2007 10:44

oh yes

nothing too good for em

sharks?

TaylorsMummy · 13/06/2007 10:44

good idea!!

lyrabelacqua · 13/06/2007 10:45

If it was p to me, they'd be physically castrated ( although that raises the innocent man scenario again).
But, as that's not likely to become legal in this country any time soon, this is a good alternative.

OP posts:
DominiConnor · 13/06/2007 10:48

There is a simpler solution that copes well with the idea that some men are later found innocent.
Lock them up.
Err, that's it.
No medical treatment is 100% reliable, even for simple stuff. Thus the people who choose to release known sex offenders, know for a fact that they are causing more suffering.

But basically they don't care.

They kid themselves that they've ticked boxes, and excuse screwups with mutual arse covering, and of course the government refuses to fund the necessary places to keep them.

Note, how the government has set the law so that you can't sue them for releasing people that they know to be dangerous.

Lyrabel (as it was me I think that raised the innocent amn scenario) I ahve no problem with voluntary castration by any method, so as to clear that up . Enforced is my issue. I was trying to respond to the 'whip it off the perverts' brigade.

'f all convictiosn were 100% I'd be prepared to sit on my liberal PC hands and say wtf lets do it ' (see rest of ost for further details however)

thats a direct quote from myself, you will note, further down.

Actually though sorry, I just dont believe in violence. I can see it from both sides- the Mum part of me says the quote above but the ethical side says no, its not on. one, we'll never be 100% clear on all convctions and there has to be one rule for all; two, torture / etc goes against everything I hold dear as a civilised person. Gut reaction shoudln't be what governs a country- ethical principle should.

oliveoil · 13/06/2007 11:14

prison for life imo

with treatment, and not just locked in a cell to brood

not some willy nilly x amount of years and then released

LOL oliveoil. agree with you. Tho the anti depressant/lowering libido idea might be a useful aid.

Peachy · 13/06/2007 11:32

You do need to be clear about what is an abuser as well

Some poele ont ehr egiste are 16 year olds who slept with their 15 year old gf- this wasnt necesarily motivated through perrversion ( I know of at least one case wher the couple were married afterwards) but technicallt said abuser is defined as a paedophile by the court system.

FWIW I know I was not a child (19) but the man who raped me went on to have a marriage and kids. I wouldn't wish castration on him now- although would have with all my heart at the time.
