Kerrymum, i think some of them are. Just as some do it to humiliate and have power over a person, some do it because they were abused themselves etc.
There's all kinds of reasons why people commit a particular crime.

I don't think you can compare the feelings of hetrosexual people finding other hetrosexual people attractive, with peodphiles finding children attractive.

If that was the case then they would be able to not act on those feelings, like a hetrosexual person would if attracted to a married colleague or something. IYSWIM.

Nobody on here has actually read the proposals - it would be a voluntary drug treatment, not a 'chemical castration'. As I understand it, it is a measure to help people who want some help to suppress their desires/libido to help them not to re-offend. The hardest cases would probably not be helped by this, as they would not opt for the treatment.

i havent read the thread, ive only skimmed the BBC article but this is how i feel - if someone hurts a child, they ruin that childs life. At the time they chose this route they give up their rights, i am sorry that they may have had hard lives, but not everyone who has been abused goes on to abuse, but im afraid that IMO paedophilia (sp!) should carry a mandatory death sentance, i do not support this for any other crime but to knowingly hurt a child, im sorry, no second chances im afraid. What if the chemical castrations emasculates (sp again!) the offender in his mind and then he decides to hurt a child as some sort of twisted revenge. Again, i know this is a grey area, for instance a 19 year old lad who has sex with his consenting 15 yr old girl friend could potentially find himself on the sex offenders register, this is clearly not right, i'm not condoning this behaviour but that person is not a peadophile.

As I understand it there is no such crime just various age related sex crimes.
For instance if a 16 yo has sex with a 15 yo, would that count ?

or what about someone who'd downloaded child pornography and was a likely offender of the future? to prevent him harming a child, should we kill him now?
