It appears the children and teacher have been found alive.
Has a miracle happened ?
I am so delighted and hope they will be ok after their horrific ordeal.
It's always nice to see good news as lately all the headlines are of something bad having happened.
Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic.

I think the media handling is right. As much as is possible they want to issue a statement when this is all over saying one thing. Not piecemeal throughout. Of course they can't stop the media seeing the stretchers and drawing their own conclusions.
Positive thoughts today, please let is be a success and be the last day x

speakout · 10/07/2018 06:02

Third rescue mission started now.

Plan is to bring out all 5 remaining today.

Slartybartfast · 10/07/2018 06:04

Hoping and praying all goes well for them today

Pupsiecola · 10/07/2018 06:33

Utter heroes. I worry for the 11 year old still to come out. Huge difference in him and 15/16 year olds. I guess the fewer there are in the cave the better from a getting used to the gear perspective etc.

I worry for their coach and his mental health, as well as all of their physical health

StealthPolarBear · 10/07/2018 06:44

I'd hope the coach can use the techniques he's been using on the boys in himself. Plus of course once they're all out his anxiety guilt (no judgement from me, any adult in this situation would feel guilty for not being able to sort it out) and sense of responsibility will go down. But I bet he's near breaking point. Just needs to hold it together a bit longer.

AuntieStella · 10/07/2018 06:47

The smaller the boy, the more elbow room there will be to manoeuvre in the tight pinch point. (Trying to see any silver lining at all)

I think it is very likely that the coach will return to being a monk - for a while at least.

Psychological responses are highly dependent on culture, and so Western models and expectation don't really apply. Thai society and belief patterns are utterly different to those in Europe or North America.

I think there will be considerably more information made public once they are all out, the fate of all the Wild Boars and their rescuers is known.

StealthPolarBear · 10/07/2018 06:49

Yes they'll have one press release. As it should be.

speakout · 10/07/2018 07:06

Just a note about Thai monks.

I have lived in Thailand.

Most teens/young men will become ordained monks, at some stage. Often for a few years, sometimes for a couple of months.

It's almost a bit like National Service.
Boys from poor families may become monks when they are much younger, and stay longer.

So being a young male and a monk is not at all unusual- in fact it is the norm.

AuntieStella · 10/07/2018 07:15

Yes, speakout I think the way that people move in and out of being a monk, and what periods of living in a monstery actually means, to the individual and to the community, are quite different (and quite relevant) here.

I've just seen a BBC report which suggests that none of the boys will be fit enough to travel to the Final, and that a humungous television is to be installed in the ward in the hope/expectation that they will all be watching it together.

If the FIFA offer is genuine, then I hope it is rolled over to the rescuers.

speakout · 10/07/2018 07:37

I don't think the coach has been a monk for several years now.

Pupsiecola · 10/07/2018 07:39

I read that they need to be in hospital for 7 days minimum. They won't be for for travel to Russia. Rolling over to the rescuers is a fantastic idea. Somebody's tweet FIFA!

TheBiologicalWoman · 10/07/2018 08:08

Thinking of them all right now as a mother of 12-year-old boy. Please, just one final day and let there be light for them, in every sense.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 10/07/2018 08:11

I'm beginning to dare to hope, but today's diving is just as dangerous as all the other dives.

peridito · 10/07/2018 08:22

I wonder if some were sedated .

Someone on cavedivers forum seemed to assume they were and discussion of the boys in hospital have referred to them waking up .

With the cave diving anaesthestist on board there would be expert knowledge available .I imagine any use would provide useful for any future recue operations .

EmilyDickinson · 10/07/2018 08:25

The BBC report that a doctor and navy seals have stayed in the cave with the boys and their coach so that there are now 9 people are left in the cave and its planned that all will come out today.

I think that would be 4 boys, the coach, a doctor and 3 navy seals.

Presumably as long as the doctor and navy seals have oxygen cylinders brought for them they can dive out without extra help.

I guess divers with bring out the 4 boys and coach as a group first, then the doctor and navy seals will follow.

SummerGems · 10/07/2018 09:33

I think the fifa talk of world cup final tickets was sheer publicity on their part. Not that they wouldn’t have honoured it but let’s be honest here what were the chances of those kids travelling to Russia having just spent over two weeks trapped under ground.

Pupsiecola · 10/07/2018 09:44

Apparently conditions have worsened in the cave with more water and stronger currents. This video a little way down is very scary. Hoping like crazy that they all make it out safely, obviously including all the rescuers.

Ambulance just seen leaving the mouth of the cave.
Good news I hope.

WellThisIsShit · 10/07/2018 09:51

I don’t know if I’m being very fair, but Elon Musk is annoying the hell out of me. Does he have anything useful to add or is he just getting in the way of a bloody awful situation where people might die?

speakout · 10/07/2018 09:55

He's publicity seeking and simply getting in the way as far as I can see.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 10/07/2018 10:00

You're not the only one Well, bloody thinks he can throw some money at any problem and it will be solved, bloody sod off.

Pupsiecola · 10/07/2018 10:01

I don't like that he's posted pictures and videos actually. I think it's inappropriate.

noblegiraffe · 10/07/2018 10:05

To be fair to Musk, he has a company that drills massive holes through rock and another one preparing to send a manned mission to Mars. People were asking on Twitter if he could think of a solution because that’s the sort of thing he does.

He was asked and he tried to help. He has access to expertise and resources that very few do. Maybe in another situation his mini sub could be useful.

peridito · 10/07/2018 10:07

Like everyone ,v anxious here .

So anxious that my rationality is going out the window to the extent that I want to encourage people to chanel only positive thoughts ( sorry about any non positive posts of mine earlier ) on here in case they seep into the ether and over to the tunnels .

So shall we leave Musk out of it ?
