Ok I have been a regular contributor to these threads and thus I am probably viewed as one of the speculators. However ?
I think that since this thread has started there hasn?t actually been any talk about what?s in the media, other than to say that the Russian had been taken in for questioning. And subsequent to that there were people googling his name and then posters seriously suggesting that they report their google findings to the police. How exactly is that gaining support and empathising? And on the ?campaign? thread there are people seriously suggesting that someone contact the parents with regard to the ramblings of some idiot who has posted her dreams on the net.
I personally don?t think theres anything wrong with discussing this. I think that people will discuss it, in the street, with their friends, in the shops, there have been numerous discussions about it on the radio. Rightly or wrongly people have an interest in this and similar cases, probably because people relate to it in some way ie they have a similar aged child for instance.
But I think that all the annalising of the suspect and speculating about what he has done with Madeleine, considering he hasn?t actually be charged with a crime, is wrong. I think it?s wrong for the media to do it and I think it?s wrong for people to do it, and there are many posts of mine on the other threads to that effect. Robert Murat has a 4 year old daughter who, because of people?s need for information, has had her life turned upside down, and who, regardless of the outcome of this case, will probably forever be branded the daughter of a paedophile. Just think about that before you start slating a potentially innocent man on a public website.
And I think this need to play amature detective in some way leads people into thinking they could be the one to give the police the vital clue they needed. In a sick way I think some people even imagine being the one to do that, or even to find Madeleine.
That?s not gaining support for anyone is it.
I have contributed regularly to these topics but I think that I have perhaps been guilty of an er of judgement and it?s time I left these threads and went back to the real world.
