Helenadove - as an aside, Emma dent coad is also horrendous...

SoupyNorman · 29/04/2018 23:21

[Brokenshire] Does seem to be respected.

Not in NI! He was considered to be among the most useless NI Secretaries ever. And that’s a very strong field. He’s no longer NI Sec anyway.

AgentProvocateur · 29/04/2018 23:21

Classic case of rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic...

BikingBeatrix · 29/04/2018 23:22

My theory, not having rtft: she jumped or was pushed. It could be either. TM started all this when she was HS - she can’t jump cos then the govt would fall - and those lefties might get if we had another GM. Oh, and something might happen to Brexit but maybe not under Corbyn - Interesting times!

BikingBeatrix · 29/04/2018 23:23

GM should read GE. Sorry. Late. Bed awaits me.

boatyardblues · 29/04/2018 23:27

AR’s majority at the last GE was wafer thin - 356 votes. A bit risky having a Home Secretary with such a slim majority.

SleightOfMind · 29/04/2018 23:30

FFS!
Boris lies and is caught out on a daily basis.

I have no love for AR’s political position but the double standard is sitting uneasy with me tonight.

paxillin · 29/04/2018 23:30

I'm not sure she's the fall guy. She might just have thought if she jumps now, the blame will still resign with May. I think it will.

Bollockingfuck · 29/04/2018 23:31

Helenadove - not a conflation with other news, she was overheard by a friend of mine who lives in the road she was campaigning in.
She’s also on record as saying her constituency (Hastings) is ‘depressing’.

LizzieSiddal · 29/04/2018 23:33

I’m not a conservative voter but I quite liked AR. She always seems pretty sensible.

I’m worried about who will replace her. I hope it’s a Remainet or we will be in for a hard Brexit.

HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 23:37

bollocking it doesnt surprise me at all There was a programme on Channel 5 last Thurs called Our Housing Crisis. it was complete anti tenant propaganda. Presented by Portillo.

paxillin · 29/04/2018 23:41

Didn't Amber Rudd have a super small majority?

OpheliaStorm · 29/04/2018 23:43

Look, it is all fine.

Theresa May goes to Church every Sunday morning so she is absolved of any wrongdoing.

Weezol · 29/04/2018 23:47

I'm trying very hard not to get excited about Rory Stewart, but at the moment he's impressive in his conduct and Prisons is an incredibly hard portfolio to gain traction on.

Governments of all stripes claim to want to sort out prisons but continue to reduce funding. It's so bloody short sighted. Same with the police and the CPS - reduce funding to unsustainable levels and then wonder why it's all going tits up and wring your hands for the camera.

Still, if you've got your own personal copper on the doorstep 24 hours a day, why would you care?

HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 23:47

bollocking ive linked an article about the media and political agenda of housing on the end of the Grenfell thread

AornisHades · 29/04/2018 23:51

I'm not a Conservative and I don't like Amber Rudd but in comparison with the rest of the Cabinet she didn't seem too bad. TM does seem to have used her as her stooge and the likes of Boris have got away with morally worse.
Let's hope Gavin 'Go away' isn't the new Home Secretary.

WhatLineyDidNext · 29/04/2018 23:51

Weezol I do think Rory Stewart could be one to watch, yes.

Topseyt · 29/04/2018 23:51

She did inherit much of the mess that culminated in the WIndrush scandal. She stumbled a lot over it though and didn't handle it at all well, often not seeming to know what her own department was doing or what it's policies are.

TM is also very exposed on this. Not least because much of it was a legacy from her own tenure as Home Secretary.

It might make another General Election more likely, but can we really afford the time for that with the deadline for Brexit so much closer this time.

I wasn't a big fan of Amber Rudd, but at least she was a fairly strong remain voice in the cabinet. I'm a bit nervous about which that will now be selected to replace her.

WhatLineyDidNext · 30/04/2018 00:12

The Guardian is claiming she went hours after it published the 'targets letter'.

That letter is also damning for Theresa May. I think Rudd knows that.

All that 'following on from your own reforms' stuff, addressed to the PM ...

Childrenofthesun · 30/04/2018 00:53

If she's unrestrained by a Cabinet position, she could become a bit of a rebel on the backbenches though? She was one of the Tory spokespeople for Remain during the referendum campaign.

Despite my wish to be rid of the current shower asap, I hope there isn't another GE with Corbyn as Labour leader. IMO, he is keeping the Tories in power, and I say that as a former Labour voter.

RandomAccess · 30/04/2018 06:40

She lied and got caught, I don't feel sorry for her at all.

SubtitlesOn · 30/04/2018 07:32

"Inadvertently misled" the other MPs

Hmm
OP posts:
derxa · 30/04/2018 07:37

I liked her. She's better than Diane Abbott.

pepperpot99 · 30/04/2018 07:42

Don't pity her. She can spend all that money in her tax free Bahamas off-shore accounts now with a clear conscience. Personally I wish she'd just do one.

RoundaboutSnail · 30/04/2018 07:42

I think this has been a witch hunt. I hope Gove won't be the replacement, but wouldn't mind Rees-Mogg. I don't agree with everything he believes, but he is at least honest and straightforward.
