Theresa May was behind the whole creating a hostile environment for immigrants policy. She wanted every department to have blood on their hands.

And now she’s letting other people take the fall.

SoupyNorman · 29/04/2018 22:33

I really feel uneasy about this because I thought she was a good, level-headed politician and the cabinet was better off with her in it.

I agree with this. Not a conservative voter.

colouringinagain · 29/04/2018 22:33

She's not come out of this looking great, bit I'd still rather have her than Rees-mogg, Gove and Johnson any day Sad

iheartmichellemallon · 29/04/2018 22:33

I don't think it's good news either.

doubleshotespresso · 29/04/2018 22:35

I hope that TM follows her lead as let's face it, she used AR to get herself (just) elected as she was too nervy of live tv debates, then sat back and let her carry the can for the disgusting policies she herself introduced.

The sad thing is that AR was a far more competent politician and had to go , leaving one less remainer in office. Scary times ahead

expatinscotland · 29/04/2018 22:36

I'm not a Conservative but this all smacks of making her a fall guy for what was equally May's policies.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 29/04/2018 22:37

If I was Theresa May, I'd just give this whole thing up now. It's not working.

The government and all the parties are a fucking mess. The UK is going down the swanny; just let it go, there's no saving it.

DamsonGin · 29/04/2018 22:37

She's not come out of this looking great, bit I'd still rather have her than Rees-mogg, Gove and Johnson any day

I'd agree with that.

PawprintsOnMyHeart · 29/04/2018 22:39

I agree that the cabinet was probably better off with her in it... however, I always felt that she seemed woefully inexperienced for the job. No idea who is experienced enough... but in TM's cabinet where BoJo can be Foreign secretary, I don't suppose experience counts for much anyway.

Also agree that this instability is not good for anyone. However, they were showing the stats on Home Secretary's tenure on Peston this morning... Amber Rudd is one of the longer serving Home Secs, it's quite common for them to fall far earlier than she did.

I would put money on there being another general election before the year is out

SubtitlesOn · 29/04/2018 22:39

TM and David Cameron started going on about immigrant numbers and targets didn't they?

So think TM is dodgy position

It is like an episode of Yes Prime Minister or Yes Minister isn't it?

OP posts:
fcekinghell · 29/04/2018 22:41

Still rather have TM than anti Semitic JC

I quite liked Amber Rudd but she had to go.

There isn't really any good political party at the moment tbh. Right now, if there was another general election ("not another one!") I'd be voting for the best of a bad bunch, as opposed to one I really supported.

plominoagain · 29/04/2018 22:41

Personally I’d rather May had gone , seeing as she was instrumental in this travesty from the beginning . I’m no fan of most Home Secs , but Rudd was one of the least worst of recent years . What worries me is who she gets replaced with . Never voted conservative in my life either .

Heyduggeesflipflop · 29/04/2018 22:41

Labour will love this - a Tory front bench scalp in an area of government closely associated with the pm

Interesting to see who the new Home Secretary will be. At least we are still spared dianne Abbott come what may!

I feel slightly sorry for her as well; I remember her being pressed into service to sub for the PM at one of the election TV debates literally just after her father had died then she was run close for her seat, the father of her kids died and she’s been wheeled out to present a harmonious picture of Government every time Johnson/Fallon et al have been caught in a shitstorm. Having to act like Deputy PM on numerous occasions and bring realism to Cabinet re Brexit whilst grieving, is it any wonder she wasn’t totally across her portfolio?

BarbaraofSevillle · 29/04/2018 22:42

No surprise here. Years ago the comedians Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis did a 'dodgy minister' sketch where the minister was caught up to no good and then was shown saying 'I will not be resigning, oh no, I will not be resigning .......... I resign' and DP and I play this sketch between us every time something like this happens and we were doing it for Amber Rudd last week when this story was in the news.

Notcontent · 29/04/2018 22:42

I am another non-Conservative supporter who thinks this is bad news and I feel a bit sorry for her. She is actually quite reasonable and normal compared to others who might take her place...

CoolCarrie · 29/04/2018 22:43

Yes it bloody is like Yes Prime Minister, but without the laughs!
She has been the fall guy here, god knows which bastard will get her job, as they are all shits

BonnieF · 29/04/2018 22:43

Normally, I would be delighted when a senior Tory is sacked or ‘resigns’, but not this time.

If we are to have any chance of a sensible Brexit, we need as many Remainers as possible in senior roles. Let’s hope May replaces he4 with Nicky Morgan. Wishful thinking...

noblegiraffe · 29/04/2018 22:45

May bloody hates Nicky Morgan, there’s no chance of that! Remember when Nicky slated Theresa May’s trousers? Fun times.

velocitykate · 29/04/2018 22:45

Amber Rudd is just the scapegoat/fallguy for what Theresa May did when home secretary isn't she?
The sooner TM goes, the better

hope that TM follows her lead as let's face it, she used AR to get herself (just) elected as she was too nervy of live tv debates, then sat back and let her carry the can for the disgusting policies she herself introduced.

Eatmycheese · 29/04/2018 22:45

Clearly she wasn’t the worst of this motley crue but all things considered - not least of all her Remain status and May’s inscrutable aptitude for doing what she apparently once hated which is hiding behind nominated - this is inevitable

Quite frankly May could be the Poster Girl for a “You Can’t Polish a Turd, Love” campaign. Not even those naive big chunky necklaces put a sheen on her.

PawprintsOnMyHeart · 29/04/2018 22:46

I didn't know that about her various bereavements... that's so sad, she shouldn't have been pushed to the forefront like that at that time.

TM has used her despicably.

Eatmycheese · 29/04/2018 22:46

Naice not naive
Although I did used to think she was entirely that. Not so sure now, think she’s just kamikaze

Eatmycheese · 29/04/2018 22:48

I wonder if there is a part of Rudd that did this because she wants May and this ghastly government to just implode properly once and for all. There’s not really many sane ones left now is there
