Hopefully she will be able to do some good on the back benches when it comes to voting on the Brexit dog's dinner deal.

blueskypink · 29/04/2018 22:52

I really feel uneasy about this because I thought she was a good, level-headed politician and the cabinet was better off with her in it.

Labour voter here who also agrees with the above.

kamarastar · 29/04/2018 22:52

Totally complicit as is May. Glad she's gone.

Weezol · 29/04/2018 22:53

I really believe that TM is being kept in post by various prominent cabinet ministers until Brexit either sinks or swims, like a human shield. The various people falling by the way are just collateral damage.

Now, where did I leave me tinfoil fedora?

TinkyWinky40 · 29/04/2018 22:54

I don’t feel sorry for her at all.
She failed spectacularly and had to go.
TM is a complete failure and needs to go next.
We need a general election.

Bollockingfuck · 29/04/2018 22:55

She is a loathsome and thoroughly unpleasant woman with a disgusting voting record. I live near Hastings and she is hated locally. Overheard when she was out campaigning during the election eyeing up a block of sheltered housing flats and dejectedly asking her entourage “Shall we bother?”
Couldn’t be happier that a Tory MP is actually taking the fall for telling lies for a change.

LuluJakey1 · 29/04/2018 22:57

'I think it's a shame' !!!
What - that someone caught lying twice in three days about her actions has resigned? Really?

I think it is a shame that you have reached the point that you are prepared to accept outright liars as members of the government. No doubt there are more than Amber Rudd but if, when they are caught, we simply let them get away with it what are we saying about honesty and integrity being values we expect our leaders to hold to?

Neolara · 29/04/2018 22:57

I'm assuming that the press have been gunning for her in particular because she made some comment earlier on this week about the decision to stay part of a customs union still being on the table.

I'm not keen on the conservatives but think AR going is not good news. Could potentially swing the balance of views with the cabinet towards the hardest of Brexit. Suspect Gove may find a way to squirm his way back to more influence. Revolting man.

Member · 29/04/2018 22:57

I’m no Conservative either btw but she was one of the few in this Government who seemed credible.

Wonder if Paul Dacre has any former fireplace salesmen in mind?

SoupyNorman · 29/04/2018 22:58

Brokenshire? Or Brokenshite, cause that’s about as useful as he was in NI...

WhatLineyDidNext · 29/04/2018 23:00

So the Guardian got a scalp.

But. At what cost?

Although it makes Theresa May look like the dreadful, mean-streaked waste of space that she is I suppose.

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/04/2018 23:02

She was one of the few tories who seem to have even a modicum of common sense, I really dont think that this is a good thing especially when you see the list of potential replacements.

TM is so desperate to cling on to her job despite her many fuck ups that she will cheerfully throw anyone under the bus. Very short sighted when her own position is so precarious and she will need all the support she can get very soon. Personally I wouldnt be at all surprised if we got yet another GE before the brexit deadline.

paxillin · 29/04/2018 23:02

We will have a general election very soon, I can't see May surviving this.

Lockheart · 29/04/2018 23:03

I think it's right that she has resigned in the circumstances (whether those circumstances were of her own making or whether she's a convenient scapegoat, who knows).

But I still think it's a shame - we are at a crucial point in our nations history which will define us for decades, our government is fragile and fragmented, the current incumbents are a right shower and we have no opposition party worth a damn.

As much as I hate to use the phrase, we NEED a strong and stable government at the moment, what with the shitstorm that is Brexit about to go down.

What we've got is fuck all. We can't afford to be pissing about rearranging the cabinet every other month.

I'm not saying she should have stayed. It's just another frustration and distraction that we could do without.

Fflamingo · 29/04/2018 23:07

I liked AR when she stopped overnight the ridiculous grants paid to green energy firms, our electricity bill is more than half as much again thanks to that, coul have been much worse without her. So many contributed to Windrush especially the gov that brought the workeRs here in the first place and every one since.

SwedishEdith · 29/04/2018 23:07

Brokenshire. Recently off as very ill. Does seem to be respected. But, if that's the case, he needs to stay on as NI brief.

LadyWithLapdog · 29/04/2018 23:08

She's gone and it's about fucking time. Good riddance.

Viviennemary · 29/04/2018 23:09

I don't like her much so quite glad she's gone. And I've also really gone off Teresa May and would be glad to see the back of her too.

WhatLineyDidNext · 29/04/2018 23:11

Yes, I can see why she went but this is far more than Rudd's problem.

Fairly dim Brexiteer Penny Mordaunt (and former 'close friend' of Boris) is a bloody Secretary of State. Gove is rising up again from the lawn.

But, also note Rory Stewart's coming up the ranks as a very pissed off, and very intelligent, Prisons Minister.

HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 23:11

Agree with expatinscotland

I also think there will be a general election before Christmas Ive thought this for a while.

HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 23:14

" Overheard when she was out campaigning during the election eyeing up a block of sheltered housing flats and dejectedly asking her entourage “Shall we bother?" Hmm

I've just been informed that Tory council candidates walked out of a hustings in the area after a young man questioned their response to Grenfell. Let me be clear - if you cannot talk to your residents, you should not be on the council.

Viviennemary · 29/04/2018 23:15

I think if there was an election Labour would have a good chance if only they could get rid of Jeremy Corbyn. But no chance of that.

OliviaStabler · 29/04/2018 23:16

Pity it is no Diane Abbott
