This is slipping from the news and the police are starting to scale down their seraches.

Evidence seems to suggest that Madeline may have been taken to Spain and yet very few people out there are aware of what has happened or what she looks like etc.

We need to send as many emails as we can to Spanish businesses with a poster attachment and highlight this case.

I need mumsnetters to volunteer.

I have called in sick today to get this started but this is a massive task and I cannot do it on my own.

Please let me know if you can help.

have downloaded new poster and am hoping to get it sent over to Spain and also some other places, I'm hoping North Africa.....

Would Poland be a possibility, can anyone tell me? (should have concentrated better in Geography.... )

Marne · 13/05/2007 10:49

I have a freind at work who has contacts in Africa, i will ask her if she can e-mail the poster on to them.

I agree that there are loads of missing people and children and they all deserve help to be found but this is just the latest child to go missing and the faster we act the more chance of finding her. Im sure we would be willing to help search for any missing child/person if we felt there was some way we could. I dont think enough is done to find these people/kids in the way of publicity/media etc and i think alot more could be done.

Lets just hope and prey that they find her unharmed.

Marne · 13/05/2007 10:51

I think we should be covering a large area, surely she could be anywhere,

Spain
Africa
France
Italy
Germany

quietmouse · 13/05/2007 10:54

excellent - I am getting some taken over to Tunisia on Wednesday

Also Turkey, hopefully this week - any good?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 13/05/2007 11:07

I have lots of contacts in Africa.

I think Eastern Europe can probably be pretty much discounted as, and I don't mean to sound crass, but as a rule, children are trafficked out of there not the other way around, and there is such a high proportion of orphans for instance that the eastern europeans don't need to go elsewhere iyswim.

Hi everyone, have been away over the weekend so just having a catch up now.

My Sister In Law phoned this morning to say that she had received a text message from her mobile phone operator (Orange) with an alert re: Madeleine. It was a fairly brief text without a picture but gave a contact number to phone (possibly the crimestoppers number).

I'm just wondering if it's worth contacting all of he phone operatos (Virgin, Vodaphone, Talk Talk etc) to see if they will do the same. If they can include a recent picture of Madeleine (esp with the anomaly in her eye) then that would be even better.

If they were prepared to text all of the customers through out Europe, they could reach millions of people instantly.

My only concen is that this would cost the phone companies a great deal of money?

Can anyone follow this up?

I have to go out again today but will be back this evening and help out again.

Just found this website which the family have set up to pool all of the information on Madeleine into one place - thought I'd share with you all here

likemylife · 13/05/2007 12:51

ThisIsDavina, I read this morning that the News Of The World have successfully negotiated with the mobile operators to send a text message to anybody entering Spain and Portugal - it doesnt mention if the text includes a photo though They have also contacted BP, Pizza Hut, Burger Ranch and Burger King who are going to put up posters in their branches across portugal and spain.

helenhismadwife · 13/05/2007 13:04

It is in the News in France

Haulage companies would be good to contact especially the ones that go to Europe such as Norbert Dentressangle, Christian Salvesen and Eddie Stobart their drivers travel all over Europe so if they were given posters they could look out for her

PeachyChocolateEClair · 13/05/2007 13:09

I have e-mailed the biggest haulage companies, and also the e-mailed the RHA (road haulage Association) on Friday, so hopefully that is in process- although alwayswortha pproaching Salvesens, Stobats etc direct of course (I did TNT (as Dh works for them LOL) and their parent comapny TPG as they run several postal systems, UPL and DHL)

I would think inyerantional postal servcies and also internet providers would be good as they cover many people

Frizbe · 13/05/2007 13:21

I did some moroccan hotels yesterday and various fitness/yoga studios in spain n morocca, also sent posters to dojo's in poland, just in case....

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 13/05/2007 13:33

photos to mobiles is more tricky because

a: a photo is much larger than a pure message and therefore will have a much greater impact on their network
and b: not all phones are able to receive multi media messages and the operator wouldn't be able to know which are/aren't, so it's best to go with just text.

Rantum · 13/05/2007 13:51

What about internet companies such as Ebay - people all over the world regularly look at Ebay - I don't have any contacts there myself - if someone does would it be worth a try.

ScoobyDooooo · 13/05/2007 14:04

I tried to contact ebay a few days ago but have had no reply so if someone else wants to try i think it is a great idea too.

LilyLoo · 13/05/2007 17:28

Just recieved a text message to pass on with details of her and to say a prayer. It can all help sent to all in my phone book.

likemylife · 13/05/2007 17:55

Lilyloo - is there any chance you could copy the text message onto this thread please? I would definitely like to send this to everyone in my address book and guess a few others would too. TIA

in the absence of photos of the CCTV suspects here is the description from Sky news - send this to your mailing lists, if these people are innocent they can get themselves eliminated from the enquiry...

CCTV of a woman and two men with a girl matching Madeleine's description at a nearby petrol station is being analysed. Their car had British number plates.

Sky News understands that the man who forms part of the couple has dark skin and dark, collar-length hair with a middle parting. He is 1.75m tall.

He speaks English, has small glasses and was wearing a white shirt and beige trousers.

The woman is slightly shorter with long, blonde hair. She speaks English.

The other man is tall, well built, middle aged with a full face. He has straight, collar-length dark hair and was scruffy and unshaven, with greying stubble.

He also speaks English, was carrying a military-style backpack and was wearing a shirt with jeans and waistcoat.

McDreamy · 13/05/2007 19:07

I did Norbert Dentressangle, Willi Betz and Eddie Stobart on Friday plus the Transport and General workers union asking them to encourage their members and companies to help. Also emailed a few coach companies inclkuding Euroline (european National Express) SNCF and Eurostar. Hopefully hear something back tomorrow.

ScaryHairy · 13/05/2007 20:19

Just heard from the relatives in Germany that this story is all over the new there too (including the description of the two men and a woman they are looking for).

It's really good that it is being covered all over Europe and not just UK, Portugal and Spain.

Frizbe · 13/05/2007 20:28

that's very good I hear they're looking for a German man and a Polish Woman?

ToughDaddy · 13/05/2007 20:35

Reminder/Suggestion: Global firms have intranet websites and firm/countrywide email lists. If you are able to, please ask employee/insider to try to persuade communication dept/senior exec to send weblink on firm wide email or put link on intranet site? A bit "outside the box" for company intranet but worth I try I think. Tell them that other firms are being helpful. If the normal media channels decide to drop the story then global firms could be invaluable network. Appeal to the ethical dimension that corporations are now claiming to have.

I haven't read this thread top to bottom so you may have already covered this

quietmouse · 13/05/2007 20:37

really? So Poland might be an idea then?

Also read that they are looking for an American man who lives in a neighbouring village and has not been seen for several days..... he owns a white van - like the one seen parked by Madeleine's apartment for several nights but not since she disappeared

mixed · 13/05/2007 20:37

emailed friends in norway, belgium and holland, they all had seen it on the local news

I absolutely don?t think people should be emailing out descriptions of people that police apparently are looking for. Absolutely none of those descriptions have been confirmed by the Portuguese police, and although there?s a lot of hearsay going on in the media, none of it has been confirmed by the police and no statements have been issued with descriptions. It?s one thing issuing emails with a photo of Madeleine, that?s what her parents want, but to start telling people that the police are looking for certain individuals is venturing into very dangerous teratory and could even prejudice an investigation. It?s not our place to be issuing descriptions of suspects we know nothing about.
