We can discuss parenting styles in a few weeks

I think it's human nature for people to gather together and talk about it when something disastrous happens, H - MN is our version of everybody going out into the street in the old days - I disagree with Twig that it's "ghoulish over-sentimentality".

2shoes · 05/05/2007 19:15

i remember being really upset when the JB happened. I had a 1yr old son and a 2yr old nephew and it really upset me so I can understand why people feel so emotional about it

elasticbandstand · 05/05/2007 19:18

yes the JB was awful, had a neice but no dc myself either

paulaplumpbottom · 05/05/2007 19:18

I think thats just it Wendy. We are just like the old women you see gossiping n the streets just in a diffrent form

Twiglett · 05/05/2007 19:20

Well its only my opinion but I think true empathy would lead you to feel horror at this poor family's every move being followed by news cameras and journalists.... or is that done to sate curiosity of people they've never met

True empathy in my opinion would make you wonder whether if it were you would you would appreciate being discussed interminably by people you've never met

As I say its just my opinion.

thedogsbollox · 05/05/2007 19:21

TWig - right now I don't imagine they give a flying f*ck what anyone is discussing, or who is following them around. Sadly, I suspect (in an empathetic way) that all they are thinking about is when or if they will see their daughter again

elasticbandstand · 05/05/2007 19:25

so shall we disucss the developments then?

scatterbrain · 05/05/2007 19:25

Another thread sown the pan then eh ?

elasticbandstand · 05/05/2007 19:28

need to get back on track... definately...

Enid · 05/05/2007 19:29

i agree, in part with twig

I was sickened to see sky news interview the uncle of mrs mccann

'how did you feel etc etc

sick and wrong

DrDaddy · 05/05/2007 19:29

Latest seems to be that they strongly believe she's still alive; they have a suspect, but won't release any more info for fear of endangering her life (according to Reuters, Sky and BBC)

tortoiseSHELL · 05/05/2007 19:29

Twiglett, I felt that when I saw the footage of them in the resort, with cameras obviously following them - it did feel like intruding.

DrDaddy · 05/05/2007 19:30

I'm a news junkie saddo and have alerts popping up on my pc all the time. Plus I know there are quite a few MNer journos who should keep us up to date...

NotanOtter · 05/05/2007 19:31

It IS an intrusion and i hope they know a lot more than all of us. They can probably put an end to at least some of the speculation but choose not to.
Its their right to know about all this long before us. it is their baby

but media coverage is good.

totaleclipse · 05/05/2007 19:31

It breaks my heart to think what that little girl might be going through, being too young to understand her parents had no control over it

ArcticRoll · 05/05/2007 19:32

I'm with you Twiglett.

quietmouse · 05/05/2007 19:33

I would think, if I were in their shoes, that I would welcome publicity. The worst feeling of all must be of being abandoned.

At least if there are media there they know that people are aware of their situation and that more people are looking for her and also praying and hoping for her safe return.

DrDaddy · 05/05/2007 19:34

Quite frankly, I don't think they give a flying f*ck about the media being there. I'm sure their minds are elsewhere....

princessmel · 05/05/2007 19:35

Just seen headlines on bbbc news 24 and its still saying that they think she is alive and nearby.

BTW I'm on this thread to keep up to date with the story. I've been out all afternoon and haven't been able to watch news all day. Also the news channels discuss other stories too so its not always on there when I have time to switch it on. I just want to hear a happy ending. Like everyone else. Not for any of the other reasons.

DrDaddy · 05/05/2007 19:36

Me too. There's another thread going with all the navel gazing I believe....

elasticbandstand · 05/05/2007 19:40

thank god this type of thing is so rare that we are reminded of Ben Needham's case...which was 16 years ago...

it is not an every day occurence

Oh well we'll all just pretend to not give a toss then if caring about what happens makes some of you uncomfortable
