oh right, were people claiming her as a role model?

fine, if you want to be a porn star. and they called susan greenfield a media whore

the trouble about being a strong, intelligent, competant albeit imperfect person who is a good role model for her daughters (and other people's daughters) as I am is that there are SO MANY WOMEN WITH COMPLETELY SCREWED UP ATTITUDES TO OTHER WOMEN OUT THERE

and none of them will be role models for MY daughters, ta very much.

luckily there are lots of other strong, intelligent, competant albeit imperfect people on here otherwise I'd despair

PrincessPeaHead · 02/05/2007 17:47

ha ha coddy

no I'm clearly fucked in that department

bundle · 02/05/2007 17:47

pph that's what I think about someone like Condoleeza, she may have "power" but has she used it as I'd want her to? No. and is she happy and would I like my girls to grow up like her? NO.

PrincessPeaHead · 02/05/2007 17:49

well bundle it depends if you want to say that a role model is someone "I'd like my dd's to grow up like" or whether they are people who you respect, who have achieved a lot and who can by their actions, teach you something

I personally want my dds to grow up to be like themselves

but recognise achievement and value in other people and not CONSTANTLY belittle it because of their own insecurities

it is the English way, sadly.

PrincessPeaHead · 02/05/2007 17:50

how do you know if she is happy or not bundle?
or do you just think she doesn't deserve to be happy?
or that she can't be happy because she doesn't have a husband and kids?
please share, because unless you are her sister I'm at a loss to understand where that knowledge comes from

PetronellaPinkPants · 02/05/2007 18:11

I quite like Codoleezza Rice although I vehemently disagree with her politics. At least she has brains and puts them to some use which is I suppose something to be lauded. She strikes me as far more intelligent that Dick " where's my gun" Cheney or indeed any of Dubya's cronies.

She hasn't made much progress with the Palestinians though, but I won't go there.....not today....

yellowrose · 02/05/2007 18:29

no if you ARE a shit mother (any one willing to give a definition of a shit mother, I have quite a few) then you shouldn't be a role model to any one - aint't that fecking obvious now ?

harpsichordcarrier · 02/05/2007 18:30

too blardy right pph

yellowrose · 02/05/2007 18:30

donnie - she aint't smarter than Powell though, Cheney yes, the worms in my garden are smarter than Cheney, but Powell is smart and an excellent orator, a rare thing for a US politician.

yellowrose · 02/05/2007 18:34

ppp - aren't you the one who made that rather vile revelation re. Xenia's looks and work and how much money she really has, etc ? you get my standing ovation for writing one of the bitchiest things I have ever read on MN ! Well done !

And I am not even a Xenia fan !

yellowrose · 02/05/2007 18:35

sorry that should have been PPH - too many pees in my last post !

monkeytrousers · 02/05/2007 18:36

Sorry but I did laugh at this from PPH, "even though you may not personally agree with some of her science" - not laughing at you PPH, be assured, just the fact that soem people really do equate scentific fact with opinion - and that without a trace of irony they will 'disagree' with it. That will only be funny to the munsnet geeks - another clique

yellowrose · 02/05/2007 18:37

does anyone here give a damn whether Rice is happy or not ? We were talking about her intelligence and whether she is any good at what she does, not some airy fairy happiness monitor

LynetteScavo · 02/05/2007 18:39

So is a position of power something we all wish for our DD's?

monkeytrousers · 02/05/2007 18:43

oh and before I forget, how about Anna Politkovskaya?

WideWebWitch · 02/05/2007 18:48

TOTALLY agree with pph re women slagging off women.

Naomi Wolf
Germaine Greer
Hillary Clinton
The Panhursts
Marie Stopes

And agree that the vapid Miss Moss is not a good role model and neither is Jordan.

rabbleraiser · 02/05/2007 19:02

Any and all of the women who worked covertly for the SOE and the French Resistance during WW2. I take my hat of to them.

Also, women who used to ski down Alpine slopes in the early days of competitive skiing, wearing a long skirt, a corset, and wooden skis.

PrincessPeaHead · 02/05/2007 19:08

mt I didn't say don't agree with scientific fact - I said don't agree wtih her science - shorthand if you like but yes, those who find her ideas contraversial, don't like the way she approaches things in her field

or do you think that all scientists just find facts and then agree on them

PrincessPeaHead · 02/05/2007 19:09

excuse the spelling I have a 6 yr old actually biting my ankle (no idea why he is doing that, hmmm, must pay him some attention. BAD mother!)

PrincessPeaHead · 02/05/2007 19:14

oh I'm not too sure what vile revelations I made about xenia
I think I said she was perfectly good at her job and perfectly fine-looking. I haven't the faintest idea how much money she has and couldn't care less. ANd I also think she agreed that my description of her was spot on.
What is so vile and bitchy about that I don't know! But feel free to overexaggerate as much as you like, this is mumsnet after all

Blondilocks · 02/05/2007 19:18

MEEE! lol

Ummm seriously, have no idea. I can't even think of someone female who I would say was my role model.

pointydog · 02/05/2007 19:22

hamble

Inscrutable.

A woman who knew when to shut up.

pointydog · 02/05/2007 19:23

and once more top bird
