Justforthis, what an excellent piece. I shall be sharing on my Facebook page.

AcrossthePond55 · 26/07/2017 15:17

The question for me is; Is this doctor coming to say that he can do it, or is he coming to say it can be done? There's a huge difference and unless I've missed something, all that's being said is that he's coming to testify. Not that he's coming to volunteer.

And will this then mean that GOSH will want to provide expert testimony to rebut this doctor's testimony? And then what?

It's just like the caucus race in Alice in Wonderland.

"Presumably this means that they haven't fallen out with every individual there. But want to get away from the institution"

I know a family who had a DC who was a long-stay hospital patient, and there were the most amazing bust-up part way through (all ended up in court). They couldn't get out fast enough from that hospital, but throughout even the worst of the difficulties, there were perfectly good relationships with some of the nursing staff and specialist therapists (but none of the doctors). I believe it can happen, because I know it had.

Boffinmum's comments on the state of the US education system are interesting.

DH's family are American and close relative include a senior Stanford university Prof (now retired) and his sister who worked within the public school system (rather, alongside the school system in projects teaching illiterate teens to read).
DH family are very firmly of the opinion that it's the toxic influence of the religious right on education provision that's the problem, not lack of money (although there is also a lack of money).

The Stanford Prof recounts tales of students who've been through schools teaching creationist texts with equal weight to science teachings (or even instead of), expecting that their "alternative truth" be accepted in science exams at Stanford University!

JaneEyre70 · 26/07/2017 15:19

More "experts". Really? Hmm.

ScarlettSahara · 26/07/2017 15:19

Tinsel in answer to your question re the nursing staff input from GOSH. They will I am sure have a close relationship with the parents and strong bond with Charlie. (medic with NICU experience). Junior paeds in NICU also tend to be close after a while but it is the nurses who are there one to one.
The parents frustration/anger I imagine will sadly be with the specialists for not being willing to administer the nucleosides when they felt it was no longer in Charlie's interests.
I admire the nurses who have stepped forwards- they will still be mindful of wanting to do the best for Charlie as well as offering anything that will ease the parents' burden.

Following in despair that this is still on going.

Why do C&C demand so much when other parents of terminally ill children simply accept that they have to let them go? It seems like this has become a war against the system, an obsession with parents getting the final say above all else.

I worry about the implications this case has on future cases. Children suffering while their parents fight the courts. There is a very good reason there is no such thing as "parental rights".

C&C just seem so tragically misguided and I can't see how they will ever come to terms with Charlie's death when it finally comes as they have become so convinced that all this is someone's fault. It's all so terribly sad.

JF is in an awful position, he must be very aware that the backlash from CA and the media outlets that support their views is likely to be huge. In fact I would go as far to say that I worry for his safety.

Maryz Have been sitting on my hands whilst steam comes out of ears.. deletiob is not what we want though.

Ellie56 · 26/07/2017 15:22

To be fair the parents aren't getting what they want if they are talking about a hospice. Their final wish was to take him home.

TinselTwins · 26/07/2017 15:23

Scarlett I don't doubt that the GOSH nurses are very fond of Charlie and also care about trying to help the parents find peace

But it is not true that the family have not directed their anger at the nursing staff because the family are admin on CA page and have not only left but also even encouraged some awful posts about ALL their staff as a whole!

Fancythat69 · 26/07/2017 15:23

She sure is Smile

officeshoes · 26/07/2017 15:23

Yes cjt I believe so.

Please let this thread stay calm

officeshoes · 26/07/2017 15:24

Ellie I guess a hospice is a kind of compromise

Rhodiolia · 26/07/2017 15:24

Who ever called out that Catherine woman for selective reporting, she has responded! Said she had to step out for a critical meeting at that precise moment the judge was castigating those who berated "socialised medicine"

muckypup73 · 26/07/2017 15:24

According to the Mirror life support is being switched off on the 31st, is this right?

taratill · 26/07/2017 15:24

Oh my goodness, how can this be continuing.

I feel so sorry for C&C as it is awful they are going to lose their child but I am really struggling with understanding their motivation now.

I have wondered what their driving force is for some time, is it now to get him to last till his 1st birthday or something else?

Genuine question are they proposing that public money continues to fund this strange legal battle over the inevitable/ the doctor/ the prolonged end of life care? Or are they proposing to use some of the donated £1.3 million? I fear that that will be used to challenge the NHS at some point in the future.

How much longer, in the meantime, must that poor baby suffer?
