Issues raised by the CG case 11

This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

@ Tinsel
"I've seen the tweet saying it was for Charlie that's enough for me thanks"
🙄🙄🙄🙄

Now I am begining to understand how a real estate tycoon & a reality TV Host became President of USA- the power of Twitter!
Bet lots of CA from USA are DT supporters too. You just cannot reason with them.

TheWeeWitch · 18/07/2017 23:07

Yes, and numerous public bathrooms have been lit blue for Charlie too!

Stop the world I wanna get off
I think humans have started some sort of reverse evolution
These people can vote!
Dear god!

Pickledeggsandcheese · 18/07/2017 23:11

I've been reading these threads with interest and have just looked at CA page.
Omg what's going to happen if it's bad news, CA will blame gosh.

muckypup73 · 18/07/2017 23:11

goodbyestranger, the papers can say anything they like, untill something is set in stone, I do not belive it.

Rachel0Greep · 18/07/2017 23:11

I was wondering about the buildings being lit up... Saw a 'thunderclap' Hmm being announced earlier, and it was to show the buildings lit up 'for Charlie'.

Poor little baby. Sad

muckypup73 · 18/07/2017 23:12

Pickledeggsandcheese, of course they will, they will claim they paid the Usa doctor off. they are that deluded.

TinselTwins · 18/07/2017 23:13

With laura and Emma forming their "support system" it explains a lot. Can you IMAGINE dealing with such a massive trauma with people like that around you?

sodablackcurrant · 18/07/2017 23:15

Oh go on then, fill up the thread with stuff we have read/heard ad infinitum so far.

It is a great thread, I hope you understand where I am coming from, I am not having a go at anyone, just at the determination to keep it going with loops until Judge Francis makes his judgement next week.

There is nothing new, nothing.

But that poor child is still suffering and dying IMO.

But we shall see.

sodablackcurrant, do you go on other threads and order the participants to stop discussing things, or is that privilege limited to this one?

TinselTwins · 18/07/2017 23:18

They don't GabsALot

They've just re-hashed connie's statement and mish-mashed the time-line a little to make it sound like news

muckypup73 · 18/07/2017 23:19

sodablackcurrant, would you like us to give you info we do not have??? there has been lots of wise information on here, lots of debates in a nice way,not sure what you are after.

sodablackcurrant · 18/07/2017 23:20

Ceto,

Where did I order anything. I was just expressing a view. Is that allowed or not now.

Mommytomylittlestars · 18/07/2017 23:20

Who is Emma?
I hope there are some more sensible people they trust to support C&C who are actually able to take info in and have a rationale decision making process.
Like someone said earlier C&C will find it difficult to give up now even if they now think the treatment is futile as CA & also their American supporters will keep erring them on to 'keep fighting'.

Mucky,

I just feel sad that things are being discussed here that are not comments on court sessions or information we are privy to at the moment.

I am sure that is allowed.

PickAChew · 18/07/2017 23:22

Agreeing taratill

Whenever someone has commented that their severely disabled relative has said that they wouldn't want to die, I want to jump up an down and scream that Charlie is not in a position to express any such wish because, even if he was old enough for such an ability to communicate to be typical, he is too locked in and uncommunicative for such an expression to be anything but theoretical. Cognisant adults can no more attach motives and reasoning to him than they can their pet hamster.

Which is why the matter of HIS best interests is so important. We can't sentimentalise his plight.

goodbyestranger · 18/07/2017 23:24

I didn't read the Sun and I obviously didn't read the Telegraph closely enough.

friendlysnakehere · 18/07/2017 23:25

Maryz, another thing that has astonished me from this sorry saga is the standard of journalism.

From even 'respected' papers, I really thought that there had to be at least some accuracy, but no, some articles appear to be written by my hamster (drunk).

sodablackcurrant, there have been fact here that have been court comments, there have been facts that havent, we have been chatting, speculating perhaps, to me thats ismuch better than slating Gosh doctors, threatening to murder them, go in with bazookas, threaten to snatch charlie, it has been well balanced, had it not, mumsnet Hq would be straight in there and deleted the lot.

The parents wanted this in the open, they wanted the world to know, so they do, and its being discussed in an adult manor, a lot of us have been in the position or had aloved one with similiar.

If the parents did not want it discussing they wouldnt have played the press.
