This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

FFS, how is that an example of "doctors getting it wrong" - they saved the girls life FFS!

I think the Telegraph article is clear that GOSH are sticking to their original position. Journalists make it their business to know people and it doesn't read like rehashing to me. We shall see. I would bet they are correct.

My thinking is that it is just a loop. A time spinning thing until comment can happen on the judgment.

I think honestly that people fail to recognise that CG is NOT on everyone's lips.

It is not. A paragraph here or there in the MSM is all.

But SMedia is running the show. I have ignored all that. So there is nothing else really until next week is there.

A lot of the CA SM tactics remind me a lot of MLM posts- you know, stealing pics to misrepresent their claims, having an official party line, silencing detractors, manipulating "evidence" (if they read it at all), refusing to engage in meaningful debate and, importantly, believing that individuals can win against "the establishment"- although in the case of MLMs the establishment are usually comparative well known brands that don't rely on people recruiting their friends and family to make a profit.

I think after last week CY has perhaps had some stern advice from the publicists etc who are working with them and been told the best chance they have is to present a dignified front as opposed to issuing emotive statements full of unverified stats and claims. I hope the same people stick around for a while and offer some structure and support during whatever lies ahead.

Poor kid, poor parents. I suspect that once things are decided one way or the other the press will turn on the family very quickly, especially if there's considered to be a lack of transparency wrt the donations to date. That would be very difficult to deal with, especially when they are already at such a low ebb. Whilst I completely disagree with their stance and views I sincerely hope they have knowledgeable and astute people that stay to help them once the court case is over. Courting the media is like opening Pandora's Box- they're not just going to back off when you don't need or want it any more.

TheCraicDealer,totally agree, and I think it will happen and its not what they need,but because they have built up such a stage trying to get peope involved,it will lead to their downfall and its wrong really.

I really hope that's a fake profile and the real Connie has people looking after her and making sure she's not pouring over the comments sections of tabloids - how horrific for her if it is her!

If my loved one was involved in anything high profile I'ld be confiscating their phone before I let them read about themselves in the comment section of the sun

Yes that is Connie Yates commenting. She is still referring people back to the picture on her profile picture of the girl riding the bike saying that's what she wants for her son. But surely even if the meeting was positive in terms of having the treatment, the US doctor would have been pretty clear that this wasn't ever going to happen? The level of denial is very sad.

That is not going to happen,is that not heartbreaking??? how much does she have to see or hear before she realises??? there are people going throught this everyday, and they are suffering,..............................

CG is never going to be the girl on the bike (she's not actually riding a bike) even if the treatment goes beyond all hope in its result.

Some of the blue lights (and the Regione Lombardia #SaveCharlie massive sign) in Italy are real.

The sign on Palazzo Lombardia was done by Maroni (lega nord- Love child of UKIP and BNP after an ill advised night lubricated by copious amounts of grappa) He wanted the Pirellone lit blu too, but don't think he managed it. (eurosceptic)

The fountain in Genova going blu was organised by a bod from Fratelli d'Italia. (eurosceptic right)

Siracusa was sorted by a prominent Massive Catholic (with knobs on.) No idea of his political affiliations. Too much pro God stuff to plough through.

I am too tired to trawl through the list but the political and religious affiliations that immediatly sprang out from the first three I looked at are IMO no more a random coincidence over here than the political and religious affiliations of the American supporters are.

I just saw that comment too Maryz. Whoever thought that the meeting might help her start to face the reality of his prognosis, well that doesn't seem to be happening any time soon. Her family should be helping her come to terms with reality, instead Laura Gard is following her in the comments stirring the pot.

Someone really needs to take her phone away from her. Plenty of the comments are very harsh and attack the parents as people. It must feel like she's been slapped seeing that the general public don't agree with what she's doing, she's vulnerable and going through hell.
