Issues raised by the CG case 11

Venusflytwat · 17/07/2017 18:30

This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

The case is public

But the family should just go cold turkey on the CA, it's already imploding a little (they're telling each other to leave the group etc), and it'll fizzle out when there is some new cause filter you can add to your facebook profile

Jingle, I thank you for the info too, re medicine. My dd has just finshed Lower VI and is looking at medicine, law or maybe history (her first love, but not much of an earner!). She's worried about the level of debt too, it's the biggest block. I try to tell her not to worry about it, but ....

I do hope Charlie's parents find peace.

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 23:04

Jux, it is a heartbreaking case all round, and I think we all hope the parents find peace, but at the same time we hope that charlie finds peace too.

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 23:06

Its very strange as my son is going ito medicine to, he is doing his last year at high school then he is going to either be a surgeon or go into developing new treaments.

Ellie56 · 17/07/2017 23:06

You can all relax and stop worrying. All orders are being posted tomorrow. Grin

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 23:08

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/07/2017 23:10

You can't open Pandora's box and then wonder or be aghast why everyone looks inside

I couldn't have put it better myself ...

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 23:10

Ellie56, very funny lol............... seriously this is not disrespectful, but I am wondering why the fund raising continues?, if charlie has the treatment it has been offered free, so there truly is no need to raise anymore funds? surely?

TinselTwins · 17/07/2017 23:16

I thought that the point of buying the CA tat was that the money went to the family?

I've never bought charity tat because I actually wanted the tat

it does always strike me as dodgey though when individual "crafters" (LOOSE use of the word) are flogging stuff "for charity" and everyone just takes their word for it that all profits are going to the cause

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 17/07/2017 23:17

Subtle as a sledgehammer, me Blush

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 23:18

Bless her maryz she will do well I'm sure! My gdd wants get in Cambridge or Russell group uni. Academically should not be a problem but interview might not be. But scho will help her over that.

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 23:19

TinselTwins, well its abit confusing, as there wasalink to mums personal bank account on the website and then a go fund me account or something, then the pastor raising money to come over when the parents asked him and now theres a seprate one for the parents themselves arranged by someone, there maybe more going too.

It's interesting that the media keep quoting that £1.3 million has been raised. That was several weeks ago - Laura Gard, for instance, has been encouraging people to donate directly to CY's bank account on the CA page, so I reckon it must be a lot more than that original sum now. And I presume, if it's in a private account, they don't have to declare how much has been given?

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 23:19

XXX beyond drinking.

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 23:20

Oh I forgot, the stuff they are selling too

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 23:22

Sarahpalin if you can't post on right thread for a wonder he's cheating! Lmao!

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 23:22

Funny that bot turns up on this page of all pages'..............................

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 17/07/2017 23:22

Weirdest. Spam. Ever. Confused

TinselTwins · 17/07/2017 23:23

Yeah but apart from the official Laura stuff, there was all the "how much hun xxx" individual tat makers too who were promising to donate all money to the fund weren't there?
