Hi guys new thread.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

Starting now as 9 will fill up quickly.

If you read the content of the article there is no mention at all of the doctor being prepared to treat Charlie despite the fact that the headline says he is.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 17/07/2017 18:29

CY may have deactivated her account rather than deleted it.
I imagine that she's getting a lot of (unwanted) Inboxes from CA members wanting to know the ins and outs about today so she may have decided to deactivate it for a while.
If she's deactivated, all her data is still there for when she activates again, but to others it does look like a deletion ie no presence on FB.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 17/07/2017 18:29

yy taratill, I had to read it twice because I thought I'd missed something. Very misleading headline.

NellieBuff · 17/07/2017 18:31

I do no think it is wise to speculate at the moment.

But if CY has been told it's a no then it is heart breaking for her, all those hopes dashed. This is when Charlie's parents will need support and comfort and hopefully Charlie will be allowed to pass in peace.

This is truly the time to be compassionate for those involved (including medical and legal team).

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2017 18:32

I actually worry about the mental state of some CA members. They are actually accusing GOSH of tampering with the medical records and tampering with the drug Charts to hide the 'truth' about the Morphine as apparently they are giving him extremely highly doses on purpose to make him unresponsive so he looks worse than he is when the other doctors examine him.

Do people really think our doctors would do such a thing?

They are saying the American doctor should sit at the bedside and ask for and watch bloods be taken to check the morphine levels in his blood and he should also ask for a strand of his hair to be sent to the Lab to see how long he's really been on the Morphine.

I honestly can't believe the evil accusations they are coming out with.

I do have to say though that I've noticed a lot more members are starting up stand up against the ridiculousness!

Venusflytwat · 17/07/2017 18:32

I have posted an OP. You'll notice the slight direction change in the title.

Some of our posts this far have caused pain on these boards.

Please let's try and keep the thread to the issues.

DarthMaiden · 17/07/2017 18:32

Ok I'm going to open a new thread now unless anyone else wants to do so?

Venusflytwat · 17/07/2017 18:33

Sorry Darth, crosspost.

GabsAlot · 17/07/2017 18:36

how can thy gt away with that headline nothing been said yet!

thatdearoctopus · 17/07/2017 18:37

Why. Hangs the thread title? People returning to the debate might miss it, especially as it's now been moved to 'in the news.'

rabbitnothare · 17/07/2017 18:38

Venusflytwat if I might say so, your opening post on the new thread, infers that there has been lots of 'parent bashing' which frankly is not true on the many thousands of posts.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 17/07/2017 18:39

The seventy-sixth misinterpretation of something sciencey in this case!!

rabbitnothare · 17/07/2017 18:39

If anyone wants to start one to continue in the news section, that would suit me better.

blueskyinmarch · 17/07/2017 18:41

There is nothing wrong with the new one that Venus has started. Don't let us fall out over the name/opening content of the threads for goodness sake!

Venusflytwat · 17/07/2017 18:42

There have been some, rabbit. I've been on several of the threads and there have been some. And there are lots of people on here who feel these threads are inappropriate.

I don't agree, I think it's been really useful to have a place to discuss the issues, but there are many who disagree and I am trying to be mindful of them.

You can disagree by all means :)

rabbitnothare · 17/07/2017 18:43

blueskyinmarch I thought I posted my opinion politely. I think it gives that impression, obviously in the minority and I am certainly not 'falling out' with anyone.

It just reads badly to me.

blueskyinmarch · 17/07/2017 18:43

And for what it's worth I agree that there has been some parent bashing along with the CA bashing. That's why MNHQ put a warning on.

rabbitnothare · 17/07/2017 18:43

I have been on all from the start Venusflytwat, I am proud of how mumsnet has discussed it.

DarthMaiden · 17/07/2017 18:43

Ahh - we cross posted.

I won't publish my link and ask for it to be deleted.

Please use the thread Venus linked to.

smilingmind · 17/07/2017 18:51

Thank you everyone for very useful info about Meds.
Opiates do have that effect. I drink a lot of prune juice.
I will trial the Pregablin but like OPs said don't really want to be spaced out. The reality I have come to realise is that all medications have side effects. Before I was in this situation I thought there was a 'magic' pill to cure, or at least alleviate, everything. Unfortunately not.

11122aa · 17/07/2017 18:52

The reaction from Trump and Co will be horrendous if the doctor says publicly that he can treat him but the court's rightly say no.

Venusflytwat · 17/07/2017 18:57

Like I say rabbit I think the threads have been useful. Compared to other discussions elsewhere I think there's been a lot of restraint. I'm sorry if my wording offended you.

More general thoughts...

I saw the complaint thread earlier. I saw several people thinking we are rubbernecking. And others who think these threads are disablist.

I don't think we're either, though I can see the potential.

I think any thread based on something in real life has the potential to trigger or cause pain to others who have experience of it. But that can't mean we can't discuss it. Otherwise everything significant is off the table. Cancer, abortion, infertility, abuse, everything has the potential to cause pain to some doesn't it. But I also think it's important to be able to robustly discuss ethics and legal principles. Especially in the era of social media where fake news abounds. There's got to be a place for fact checking. The CA FB page doesn't allow conflicting views and there's been a wealth of expertise shared on these threads.

I really hope these threads come to an end soon because the case comes to an end soon. I can't imagine how you live through something like this.

I feel heavy hearted about all of this tonight.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 17/07/2017 18:59

Give it a few weeks chance smiling :) I was spacey at the start, but it's passed completely now I've been on it a while. And I'm on 600mg a day

CaveMum · 17/07/2017 19:21

Me again!
