Yikes, I don't know that denigrating Tories as kitten-torturing subhumans really helps us gain the moral high ground..! Shock

It's about as ridiculous as the tired old 'free stuff' schtick Hmm.

Surferjet, that's a bitter coffee you're drinking this morning Grin

Once the insults against Corbyn have fallen flat, just go on and insult festival goers... that'll work... Wink

CloudPerson · 25/06/2017 09:49

The Young people I know don't really care about "free stuff", they're put off voting conservative because they can see how badly they're treating disabled and vulnerable people. They care that the NHS is being decimated. They care that education is being stripped to the bones.
They care that the Tories are apparently so short sighted that they can't see the danger of the consequences of their actions.
We really need to give them more credit than assuming they're wanting free stuff Hmm

pigeondujour · 25/06/2017 09:50

Agreed. We don't need to anyway. It's the compassion bit they're shit scared of.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 25/06/2017 09:51

Absolutely young people are fed up with austerity.

upperlimit · 25/06/2017 09:55

So, let me get this right because I'm getting confused, Corbyn is shamelessly playing to the youth and their niave idealism in a crowd of over-privileged, aged wannabes?

I'm not a great fan of Corbyn but watching the haters spin themselves in circles to produce a narrative that will soothe their fears over Corbyn's increasing popularity has been the light relief this summer.

How much are Glastonbury tickets again?

BastardGoDarkly · 25/06/2017 09:55

He also gave a speech at a libertines gig, cementing himself completely in my heart.

CloudPerson · 25/06/2017 09:57

Surfer, there are young people outside the glasto demographic you know Hmm

pigeondujour · 25/06/2017 09:58

Why would having £243 plus spends preclude you from being fed up of austerity? What's the link?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 25/06/2017 09:59

Surfer, what have cuts to public services got to do with a music festival? You really are desperate, give it up, the game is lost. People are sick of negative, neo liberal policies and the now see Brexit is guite frankly, bollocks peddled largely by white, privileged males.

ShoesHaveSouls · 25/06/2017 10:00

I think a lot of older people are fed up with austerity too.

Glastonbury tickets are £238. Not a particular problem for most young working people, most people manage to afford phones, holidays and stuff. But they'd quite like a decent NHS too.

Austerity hasn't just hit the money in people's pockets - it's the hit on public services that is the most galling. Schools, hospitals, housing.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 25/06/2017 10:03

You know what the problem is? People like surfer think that middle class festival goers, by default of demographics should be on her side. It really pisses right wingers off when middle class folk show compassion and equality rather than being true blue tories.

borntobequiet · 25/06/2017 10:03

Anyone who thinks Glastonbury is "just a music festival" is spectacularly ignorant.

surferjet · 25/06/2017 10:04

What do you think would happen if millionaire Glastonbury organisers said - 'we're not having a festival for the next 3 years, but we'd like you to donate all the money you would have spent on tickets to charity'
How many people do you think would actually do that?
I'll tell you.
About 5.

pigeondujour · 25/06/2017 10:05

Yep. It's weird how they think 'champagne socialist' is a great insult. Like caring about interests that aren't yours is weak or something.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 25/06/2017 10:06

Glastonbury is a happy place (I know, I've been many times Smile Wish I was there now) - it's full of young, positive, socially responsible people, and I'm sure a few 'ageing hippies' too Grin

That really pisses some people off - people that would rather sit listening to Nigel Farage moaning over a pint about 'getting his country back' and people getting 'freebies'. It's pitiful really.

I17neednumbers · 25/06/2017 10:07

"Good. Now you know how we've felt."

Crikey. I think I can confidently say I've never called anyone subhuman or said watching them tremble is so f'g satisfying.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 25/06/2017 10:07

You have no idea what 80,000 people do with their money. They aren't donating to UKIP though!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 25/06/2017 10:08

You are aware you dont have to be affected by austerity to be fed up with it aren't you?

CaptainBrickbeard · 25/06/2017 10:08

Again, surfer, what????!

Glastonbury goers may or may not already donate to charity. I have honestly no idea at all what point you think you are making here.

Let me clarify: being opposed to austerity doesn't mean you donate all of your money to charity. It means you want the government to support a fair and equal society rather than having charities and individuals support the poor whilst they give tax breaks to the rich and destroy the public services on which the rest of us depend. I want the NHS to be properly funded by my taxes rather than relying on donations.
