Margaret Fleming- missing for 17 years?!

Beebeeeight · 12/12/2016 18:28

A woman with learning disabilities was reported missing 6 weeks ago, apparently after the DWP knocked on her door.

She lived with 2 carers and was reported to be a recluse.

But now it is being reported that no one else has seen her since 1999 and the police are digging up the garden.

I know mn has rules about not speculating but

Some parents should never have been parents in the first place.

JenLindleyShitMom · 17/12/2016 14:29

Long car journeys abroad, a diver, that river, They may never have any answers. Sad

Manumission · 17/12/2016 14:31

Oh I hope not. She deserves to be found.

JenLindleyShitMom · 17/12/2016 14:43

Absolutely. The only hope is that the carers (of involved) seem to not be too bright based on how quickly they reported her 'missing'. It's suggests panic and a lack of a proper plan. If that's the case then there is a chance one or both of them will break and confess to what has happened. If they're involved.

DesolateWaist · 17/12/2016 14:59

Poor love.
I find it scary how stuff like this goes on without people noticing.

Beebeeeight · 17/12/2016 15:39

I wonder what happened to eddie's first wife.

Has it been confirmed that the carers were still in receipt of her benefits?

It does seem like a very cut and dried case, but it's still ongoing and the police have asked Margaret to come home etc - not sure if they are trying to draw someone out, or if they genuinely don't know what happened.

I hadn't read about the rubbish in the house - does that not mean that the carers has issues of their own (hoarders?)

Bejazzled · 17/12/2016 16:48

itsall I read that the DWP did a home visit after having received an application from 'Margaret' for additional benefits. Someone was withdrawing her money and applying for more.

JenLindleyShitMom · 17/12/2016 19:37

Yes it was a new application either by margaret or on her behalf for another benefit. I have t seen anything that confirms where the benefit money was paid to.

Beebeeeight · 18/12/2016 13:22

I read that part of their 'caring' responsibilities was to manage her finances. This is quite common for people with learning disabilities who need carers.

There is scope for a lot of financial abuse in this field. Eg carers control the finances and 'control' how much they are paid! IMO someone independent should be in charge of the finances.

Re: the clutter you can see it from the photos.

What's also strange is that avril was sharing message about missing people for a few weeks in 2013. Maybe she went missing then and they just didn't report it.

Re benefits.

She might have been requested to claim pip instead of dla.

MrsJayy · 18/12/2016 13:28

That is what I was thinking her benefits were being changed DWP probably had been trying to get her for interview for a while

greendale17 · 02/10/2017 16:13

Update on this strange story-

CoolCarrie · 04/10/2017 14:43

Thank you that update, greendale. What a strange case. How can that woman sell the house? I hope the police find this poor woman, alive and well, but sadly I doubt it.

greendale17 · 04/10/2017 19:24

Interesting that the carer is trying to getting the demolition order for the house where Maragaret was living in stopped.

Also her reaction to being investigated is strange- Miss Jones, who often walks with sticks, added: 'There's no heat on me. We're not suspected of anything, we're not being investigated. We're just witnesses".

There's no heat on me???? Who says that?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/10/2017 17:16

There's now an in interview with the couple on the BBC website. The whole thing is truly bizarre. If Margaret really had run out of the house when the police arrived, the police would presumably have found evidence that she was living here until that moment - clothes, food etc Eddie is also saying Margaret went to Poland to recruit agricultural labourers ( !). Presumably if so there would be a record of her applying for and getting a passport.

The interview and accompanying article us here:
Margaret Fleming's carers claim she is still alive - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-41542875

MoreProseccoNow · 08/10/2017 17:56

I’ve just read the BBC interview & came on to say the same thing. How utterly bizarre. The quotes from the couple are unbelievable. I expect the Police only have circumstantial evidence & are desperate for something concrete.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/10/2017 18:40

MoreProsecco I'm sure you're right. It's interesting that Eddie says in the interview that when he saw Margaret a month after she disappeared, she wasn't shouting and bawling any more. That suggests that Margaret perhaps had episodes of distressed or challenging behaviour but somehow in that month stopped this and developed the skills to travel abroad, employ people etc. Which is highly improbable at best.

Maudlinmaud · 08/10/2017 18:56

I came looking for this thread again, after watching the carers interview on BBC.

I don't think I've ever seen anything as strange Confused Margaret is allegedly a gangmaster now in Poland?
Come on.

StealthPolarBear · 08/10/2017 19:33

Thanks leeds for pointing me in this direction :)

Maudlinmaud · 08/10/2017 19:37

Hi Stealth did you see the interview?
I just read this thread again, and either a different (carers) story was reported in the press or the carers have changed their version.

StealthPolarBear · 08/10/2017 19:39

A gang master indeed.

StealthPolarBear · 08/10/2017 19:40

No I've just seen it on BBC news site. I started a thread as it did t occur to me the story would be big enough to have a thread of its own sorry. I always usually check but have been lax since the Marseille stabbings the other week didn't warrant a thread!

LIZS · 08/10/2017 19:45

The story of her alleged whereabouts seems very bizarre.

StealthPolarBear · 08/10/2017 19:48

Were they asked why they had only recently reported her missing?
