Margaret Fleming- missing for 17 years?!

Beebeeeight · 12/12/2016 18:28

A woman with learning disabilities was reported missing 6 weeks ago, apparently after the DWP knocked on her door.

She lived with 2 carers and was reported to be a recluse.

But now it is being reported that no one else has seen her since 1999 and the police are digging up the garden.

I know mn has rules about not speculating but

There have been convictions with no body before - Suzanne Pilley and Arlene Fraser. They must have enough other evidence for the PF to go ahead with a murder charge.

PoppyPopcorn · 27/10/2017 18:34

They've been charged with assault, murder, fraud and defeating the ends of justice (Scottish equivalent of perverting the course of justice). Next court appearance early Nov.

This is now obviously sub judice so careful what you post.

Tealdeal747 · 27/10/2017 18:39

So as suspected that interview on tv was done to catch them out.

"Gang master" as if!

Battleax · 27/10/2017 18:47

I can't help thinking that there'll be some psychological mitigation there. Distinctly impaired IQs at the very least.

RJnomore1 · 27/10/2017 18:52

Whatever has happened I think they are pretty sure that Margaret is dead, and it seems no one noticed for 18 years that she wasn't anywhere.

I find that incredibly sad.

Tealdeal747 · 27/10/2017 19:22

I don't think she's been dead for 18 years.

I think she's died at some point / gone missing and that was never reported.

Battleax · 27/10/2017 19:27

I disagree Teal. The police couldn't find record of anyone anyone seeing her since '99. Hence the appeal.

It's quite difficult to avoid all interactions with neighbours, acquaintances, health services etc if you're alive.

TheApprentice · 27/10/2017 20:05

I hope that justice can now be given to this poor lady. The police must have been working hard behind the scenes but I'm not hopeful of a body being found.

Redglitter · 27/10/2017 20:56

I think she's been dead since 1999. So sad no-one missed her.

Looks like the 'carers' were given just enough rope to hang themselves with that ridiculous interview they gave

sarahx3004 · 28/10/2017 16:13

Such a sad case, I think if anything lesson of this case should be vulnerable people like this should be checked on.

As for those carers after that interview can't see how they would of expected any other outcome.

Hopefully justice will be reached for this poor lady finally.

Tealdeal747 · 28/10/2017 21:10

Neighbours?

Have you seen where this house is?

There are no neighbours.

It's in an isolated spot between 2 villages, along a main road, not one you'd walk along.

Macca9 · 29/10/2017 18:22

2 houses identical next door and small cottage directly accross road.

YogiYoni · 29/10/2017 20:34

More info about the charges here: www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/news/15626403.EXCLUSIVE__The_full_details_of_what_prosecutors_say_happened_to_missing_Inverkip_woman_Margaret_Fleming/

Police seem to think she was murdered in 2000 or earlier. So very sad that someone cannot be noticed missing for so long.

Battleax · 30/10/2017 07:51

That reads as though they have forensics.

Or one of the two have talked. But if you'd committed murder wouldn't you be able to say whether it was before Christmas or after?

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 30/05/2018 17:56

Awful reading what they think happened to her.

Cocktailismyfavouritefilm · 30/05/2018 18:31

I know. It's so sad.

I just hope that there is enough evidence so that they don't get away with it.

Cocktailismyfavouritefilm · 15/09/2018 23:52

Has anyone heard anything about the trial? I read it was meant to start this month. I'm hoping poor Margaret gets some justice.

TheLadyhasarrived · 26/09/2018 13:59

The trial has started today and they think it will last 8 weeks.

FoxFoxSierra · 23/10/2018 04:17

I've just read on BBC news that the trial had collapsed! No details on why but the judge has said there was no fault from either the prosecution or defence and it will most likely go ahead in the future Confused

Poor Margaret, I hope she can have justice one day

April2020mom · 23/10/2018 23:38

This is a strange case. I’m sure the support workers know what happened to her.

Friendofsadgirl · 14/06/2019 23:33

I just remembered this thread. So glad they were found guilty. I do hope they will now say where poor Margaret Fleming's remains are. www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/17707084.margaret-fleming-police-scotland-say-murdered-woman-lived-last-days-in-a-living-hell/?ref=rl&lp=1

FoxFoxSierra · 18/06/2019 02:19

I had missed that they were back on trial. I'm glad they have finally been found guilty and I hope they will reveal where her body is so that her poor family can give her a proper burial. I am still so confused by this though, how do the police know so much about the details of what they did to her? There has been so much reported about what they think happened but virtually nothing about what led them to those conclusions Confused the jury only took 3 1/2 hours to reach a unanimous verdict so there was obviously compelling evidence but I can't get my head around what that could be after all this time and without her being found

AgentProvocateur · 17/07/2019 18:40

Updating this to say they both got 14 years. Such a sad, sad case. I hope they both rot in jail till they die.

FredaFrogspawn · 12/01/2020 17:02

Updating this thread having watched the documentary on iPlayer. Also wondering how this poor girl fell of the radar for so long.
