JanH · 16/02/2007 12:46

Is this a dictatorship o ruling one?

Fat chance!

I really dont know...I think everyone feels emotional about these things. when something like this happens we all go in and kiss our children when they are sleeping and think how lucky we are.

But at the end of the day...everyone IS entitled to their opinion even if I want to slap the screen in frustration.

JanH · 16/02/2007 12:51

Oh of course they are, LBS, and normally I would just have left them to it - just not right there and not right now

I am pro life means life, I am veering heavily to lethal injection and I know that makes people angry.

But a thread about a murdered 2 year old is NOT the place to be trading personal insults...its disrespectful.

MrsGordonRamsay · 16/02/2007 12:52

I have no problem with people having their opinions. I do have a problem with a very unhappy member of MN logging in here and continually seeing that headline when she has only just buried her own two year old. When the argument could be carried on elsewhere.

LittleBoSheep · 16/02/2007 12:56

BUT with respect, a lot of us dont spend so much time on here that we KNOW their personal histories. Some days I post a lot...sometimes im too busy...sometimes I get so cross I have a break.

When GGG is upset was posted I thought "Where did that come from?" I assume that is who we are talking about.

JanH · 16/02/2007 12:59

gggl had posted herself earlier on that thread, LBS - just as Taylorsmummy joined in in fact - and there were lots of comments from others following on.

Trouble is everybody doesn't look at every post which is why that then got skimmed over and it carried on.

LittleBoSheep · 16/02/2007 13:19

She said she was upset but so were a lot of other people..its an upsetting situation...obviously the regulars know each other but most of us just dip our toes in as and when we can so we tend to only remember those we have had direct discussions with.

Until you spelt it out at the end though It kept going, im sure if it had been mentioned sooner it would have been left sooner.

JanH · 16/02/2007 13:22

True - we do tend to assume everybody is tuned in to everything.

Have you noticed the The Mile for Maude?

i think we should bring back the stocks outside civic buildings.

Tortington · 16/02/2007 13:24

ok clearly got wrong end of stick - somethings going on i've missed. sorry for any upset i may have caused - i thought it was a straight up thread

JanH · 16/02/2007 13:24

Yep, stocks good, pillory too, and public floggings - well they could be televised now of course.

OP posts:
JanH · 16/02/2007 13:25

No, that's OK custy, it was meant to be straight up but those it was for haven't turned up.

OP posts:
Tortington · 16/02/2007 13:29

i wouldnt whip people !

i think throwing tomatos is perfectly acceptable.

and not for any monetary things - so not for fines or owt -'cos, well it would only be poor people.

maybe as an option for theft. as well as a sentance?

JanH · 16/02/2007 13:30

Would they supply the tomatoes or would we have to bring our own?

OP posts:
Tortington · 16/02/2007 13:34

oh no, you have to bring your own.

Tortington · 16/02/2007 13:35

or else we would get a tomato tax - to cover the cost.

JanH · 16/02/2007 13:37

And Bernard Matthews should be good for the rotten eggs

OP posts:
Tortington · 16/02/2007 13:43

Janh, Janh, Janh you must think BIGGER

we could throw turkeys

ELF1981 · 16/02/2007 13:47

I dont know if it got missed in the hum of the last thread, but I really do think people should read Jodi Picoults "Perfect Match", it's a very good book, fits into the subject that was being discussed and might make people step back a second from their initial retaliation justice thoughts

Tortington · 16/02/2007 13:49

well i doubt i will ever read that book - could you please give us a synopsis from which we can make arguments?

ELF1981 · 16/02/2007 13:55

Okay, a woman who works with kids who have been abused finds out that her own son has been abused. He tells her that it was their priest from their church, and prelim DNA evidence confirms that is the case. The woman does not want her young son to go to trial as she knows from experience how the kids suffer and how hard it can be to get the case to stick.
So on the first day of the court, she smuggles a gun into the courtroom, and shoots the man concerned several times and kills him, her plan is to pretend to be crazy to get off with it.
Then the DNA is investigated further and it turns out that the priest had bone marrow donations from his brother when he was younger, so it was actually his brother who had abused the young boy, she'd killed an innocent man.
