My tuppen'th on the is it/isn't is racism debate (the thread is full):
I don't think Jade is a raging BNP member, but I don't think you have to actively dislike black/asian etc people to be capable of making racist remarks. Her own mixed-race-ness doesn't matter, because she looks white. It's like saying that I couldn't be capable of saying something anti-white because I'm half-white - I could, and if I did, I'd be a racist too. Hitler's Granny was a jew!
This subtle kind of racism is endemic, and I've always found it, everywhere, and in 90% of the people I know. If colour or culture isn't an issue, it wouldn't occur to you to use it in an argument. As far as I can make out, Jade and co reached for the colour/culture ammunition pretty quickly, so it must have been in their repertoire, ifyswIm. Maybe you can see why Shilpa wound them up, but the fact that race/cultural ribbing tripped so easily off those girls tongues just shows you which side their bread is buttered in the first place. It's interesting that amongst my friends, the is it/isn't it racism question is divided along class lines.
