did she really say that munz!!

but then UCM, if she did stand by what she said, it would confirm everyones;s opinion of her..so she took the lesser of two evils, and is hoping she will be considered a bully, rather than a racist bully. but it is too little too late .

munz · 20/01/2007 11:26

yeah but seriosuly thou I can see the point of view why she's back tracked - fair enough we all might prefer her to be honest - but seriosuly if she come out and said

'yes i'm jade I'm a racist, I hate all other nationalitlies than my own, any one who's posher than me, I've been bullied so now feel I know how to bully other people to make them feel crap as well' she would have been eaten alive. and she most definatly wouldn't have a career.

munz · 20/01/2007 11:27

My tuppen'th on the is it/isn't is racism debate (the thread is full):

I don't think Jade is a raging BNP member, but I don't think you have to actively dislike black/asian etc people to be capable of making racist remarks. Her own mixed-race-ness doesn't matter, because she looks white. It's like saying that I couldn't be capable of saying something anti-white because I'm half-white - I could, and if I did, I'd be a racist too. Hitler's Granny was a jew!

This subtle kind of racism is endemic, and I've always found it, everywhere, and in 90% of the people I know. If colour or culture isn't an issue, it wouldn't occur to you to use it in an argument. As far as I can make out, Jade and co reached for the colour/culture ammunition pretty quickly, so it must have been in their repertoire, ifyswIm. Maybe you can see why Shilpa wound them up, but the fact that race/cultural ribbing tripped so easily off those girls tongues just shows you which side their bread is buttered in the first place. It's interesting that amongst my friends, the is it/isn't it racism question is divided along class lines.

glitterfairy · 20/01/2007 16:26

If its divided by class lines how does it appear to work?

Good post though I totally agree and think that racism is not just about out and out BNP behaviour but is about stuff like an Asian man talking to me the other day about how black people couldnt be trusted! Because he was Asian does not excuse him at all.

The best thing about all this is that it has got people talking and trying to discuss racism and racist behaviour openly as well as bullying. THe outcry has been a heartening response and has made me think that we as a nation are far less intolerant than I thought we were.

JoolsToo · 20/01/2007 16:29

Cleo has lost it along with her dignity today. You could call is 'bullying'

Dirk is not a happy bunny. Aloha will be hopping!

Clarinet60 · 20/01/2007 16:32

I agree, glitterfairy, and it is heartening for that, but what is disheartening is that huge amounts of people still think it isn't racism.

The class thing seems to be that those who would call themselves-working-class-and-proud-of-it think Jade & co weren't racist, and the middle class ones say the opposite. Only amongst my friends & aquainances, you understand! Honestly, there is no middle ground, it's quite comical.

Clarinet60 · 20/01/2007 16:34

I can't spell

MoreSpamThanGlam · 20/01/2007 16:40

I find it all laughable. Im incredulous, that the country is up in arms over JADE GOODY (not an educated person) saying Shilpa Poppadom.

Does everyone feel as strongly about Iraq? Rwanda? Or what a supposedly intelligent President of the United States has said? Or our own Prime Minister? Child abuse? Physical acts of racist Abuse? Physical acts of bullying?

FFS - as a nation we should concentrate on on more important things than what Jade said to Shilpa. Shilpa is hardly cowering in a doorway in fear. Im not making Jade right - far from it, but come on, can we all please get a GRIP!

Sorry - have severe PMT and sick to the back fecking teeth of the Emporors New Clothes approach to this situation.

Mercy · 20/01/2007 16:43

Droile, I agree that it is endemic, and I think it is sometimes assumed that 'working-class' people are more likely to hold and express racist views than 'middle-class' people.

My own experience has been pretty much 50-50. As an example, My BIL told me some of the comments made by the hospital consultant he was training under were virtually the same as he heard from porters. Which is worse imo because one is in a position of power adn the other is not and never will be.

Clarinet60 · 20/01/2007 16:45

agree, but there's no argument about the physical abuse you metion - it's wrong, a no-brainer. There's debate here about was it/wasn't it, and that's what's drawing people in. I couldn't have cared less about shilpa & jade, didn't normally watch BB and only got drawn in because most of my friends were adamant that it wasn't racism. So I had a look for myself...... I agree, shipa is fine and will survive. So will Jade, in fact.

Clarinet60 · 20/01/2007 16:48

Really Mercy, that's awful . I look more black than white, so see a different side. My white mother gets to hear lots of racism because people say things in front of her without knowing her connections. She gets to find out far more than me. I get subtle, she hears overt.

Clarinet60 · 20/01/2007 16:49

mercy, posts crossed. My other one about the debate was in answer to morespamthanglam

JoolsToo · 20/01/2007 16:55

moreglam I think you'll find thousands of people marched against the invastion of Iraq, of course people care about the big things too!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 20/01/2007 16:58

I think Shilpa will probably be so much more famous now that we will be seeing her in major Hollywood flicks.. good for her!

mummylin2495 · 20/01/2007 17:00

JoolsTwo what has happened for you to say cleo has lost it today.i havent seen anything so far.

HermioneGranger · 20/01/2007 17:01

Has Jade Goody gone home or have they taken her to a safe house?

mummylin2495 · 20/01/2007 17:05

i dont know, can someone please give us all the latest please

OP posts:
sleepyted · 20/01/2007 17:08

She's just tucked away somewhere talking to the NOTW I expect.

JoolsToo · 20/01/2007 17:42

they're winding Dirk up to some tune. She had one of her characters out Miss Tiara and was draping herself all over him which he didn't like and she wouldn't stop - the other two things in there egging her on!

They've talked about putting chilli powder in his underpants and bed and using up all the Soy Sauce to annoy him!

MoreSpamThanGlam · 20/01/2007 17:43

Jools - Yes thousands marched over Iraq (rightly so IMO) but if you compare the 2 issues, and then compare the coverage I find it so ridiculous. Pages over that idiot Jade Goody, and yet if a young Asian boy (or white boy for that matter) was knifed to death because of their race and it had a couple of inches coverage in the press - would we all be on here talking about it? Nope. We would all just scan over it and keep resding.

And Im sorry if this is the wrong thread to say this...but its just my opinion on the whole Jade/Shilpa thing as a whole. I probably should have started a whole new post!!!!

JoolsToo · 20/01/2007 17:43

They're trying to get Shilpa on side by saying his miserable and touchy.

It's an effect to get people to vote against him - they keep voting for him and they want to guarantee he's up.

thats my theory anyway!

HermioneGranger · 20/01/2007 17:43

Hopefully they'll send in Murdoch and Mr T as new housemates!
