and let us not forget the funding that he also got from the French and the Russians. No-one's hands are clean in all of this

lucy5 · 30/12/2006 20:18

The vatican said punishing a crime with a crime. My sentiments exactly!

Monkeytrousers · 30/12/2006 20:27

I kow what you mean Notanotter. My gut response is to be horrified - but he was a terrible man quilty of the most horrific crimes of torture and murder. I don't know what to think anymore really.

Monkeytrousers · 30/12/2006 20:28

Power maybe - money..not so sure.

DizzyBinterWonderland · 30/12/2006 20:32

i just wish bush snr and rumsfeld had been called upon in this debacle of a trial.

the images today had me staring at the screen in disbelief. it's all so wrong.

i'm enjoying al jazeera english very much at the moment, great coverage, intelligent comment. i also love to flick over to fox and sky.. for the opposite.

cyrilsquirrel · 30/12/2006 20:41

Rumsfeld - that's the one!

foxinsocks · 30/12/2006 20:44

my goodness, Fox news channel is extraordinary isn't it? Makes the Daily Mail look like a tea party with Che Guevara.

drosophila · 30/12/2006 20:49

Cruel and unusual I'd say.

ScummyMummy · 30/12/2006 20:57

Death penalty vile
Saddam Hussein hard to mourn
Iraq still broken

DizzyBinterWonderland · 30/12/2006 20:58

dh and i love to watch bill o'reilly on a morning, pure hilarity from start to finish.

Aloha · 30/12/2006 21:17

I meant to say the Nazi high command when I mentioned Bush and his neo-cons. I am not saying that what Bush is doing is the same as the Holocaust, I am just saying you don't have to be a psychopath to be part of a murderous regime. I am not talking about Hitler, from what I gather many of his most effective comrades were not sadists or psychopaths, just ruthless, ambitious men who were perfectly prepared to be part of a regime that would kill anyone and do anything to achieve its aims. I think Blair is different to Bush and Bush is different to Saddam, but Bush is (nominally at least) in charge of a machine that tortures and murders and Blair supports him.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/12/2006 21:21

Hmmm. To watch the footage, or not to watch the footage.

Am I burying my head by not watching, or would it just be gratuitous to do so, and of no real benefit?

What to do......?

I dont believe the death penalty is 'just', in any case.

themoon66 · 30/12/2006 21:26

'Makes the Daily Mail look like a tea party with Che Guevara'...

That has to be quote of the day.. if not the week!

JanH · 30/12/2006 21:28

Bin Laden also a USA creation - CIA trained and financed, against the Russians in Afghanistan initially. You'd think they'd learn.

QV, I haven't and don't intend to.

cyrilsquirrel · 30/12/2006 21:35

wasn't Bin Laden involved in some way with one/some/all of the Bush family? or another senior US politican? Or have I got that wrong?

JanH · 30/12/2006 21:44

"One of Osama's brothers was a business partner with the son of the then vice-president and former head of the CIA, George H. W. Bush."

(Which son, I wonder? They're all real darlings)

cyrilsquirrel · 30/12/2006 21:46

that's right, thanks.

Was hoping I hadn't dreamed that up from somewhere!

JanH · 30/12/2006 21:49

Oh, it was the Prez - "When President George W. Bush froze assets connected to Osama bin Laden, he didn't tell the American people that the terrorist mastermind's late brother was an investor in the president's former oil business in Texas."

(From here - really hard to read, no paragraphs at all.)

cyrilsquirrel · 30/12/2006 21:52

strange

mufti · 30/12/2006 22:04

feel quite strongly about this - our governments condoning it and tony blairs relationship with mr bush , and have just decided to email him, although he want read it, to that effect

cyrilsquirrel · 30/12/2006 22:07

good on you mufti I was actually thinking of writing to him too.

mufti · 30/12/2006 22:13

mind you it feels very big brother now. i have 2 email addresses - neither is under my married name. yet they (downing street) replied asking me me to confrim that it was from me, addressing it to mrs -- .

oh well, i wont be voting for him again.

Aloha · 30/12/2006 22:20

The US gvmt has supported so many psychopathic dictators over the years.

lazyanna · 30/12/2006 22:23

Does anyone know why it was a hanging - is that an Iraqui rule? Why not a more "modern" execution?

Heathcliffscathy · 30/12/2006 22:24

aloha, could i possibly hold your hand in a virtual way?

I've missed you so much and am so glad you are back.
