Warning: it's a distressing read.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/12149716/Milly-Dowlers-family-Now-we-know-the-final-hours-of-Millys-life.html

Her poor family, being manipulated and made to suffer yet again by this monster. And he insisted on giving his "confession" to female officers, no doubt because he got a kick out of it.

And the list of unsolved murders and attacks that he's under suspicion for is truly chilling.

Prison is too good for him.

I would like to know why the police have accepted this confession as being truthful. It differs from what was thought to be the course of events and is far more distressing and horrific. Bellfield had nothing to lose from this and a lot to gain, in terms of the satisfaction manipulating this situation clearly holds for him. He can tell fellow inmates whatever he likes. Nobody can disprove it.
I have my doubts about this whole conviction actually. The course of events he has described is very different from the other crimes he has been convicted of.
Milly's poor family - what an ongoing torment.

snowymountaintops · 10/02/2016 18:52

Omg that poor poor family. All evening since hearing it on the news I just keep thinking '14 hours, 14 hours'. You stupidly hope against all hope that when something this atrocious occurs that it would all happen very quickly and that she would die quickly without suffering. Clearly that is not the case and it is utterly heartbreaking, that poor poor girl. It's unbearable for us to think of god only knows how her immediate family must feel - their lives are completely destroyed by this utter horror of a creature.

MrsWhirling · 10/02/2016 19:46

I don't think the level of detail should have been released, it's harrowing but it was the family's decision. I too was confused by the early reporting who had released it. I wasn't sure if it was Surrey Police or the media.

MissyMaker · 10/02/2016 19:59

You know, it is Milly's family's thing. It is up to them what they choose to do with the information. Regardless of how distasteful you find it, this stuff happened to their daughter. They are normal people who have been to fucking hell and back - they have no frame of reference in how they should behave - why should they? They have been royally fucked over, countless times, because their 13 year old daughter was abducted by a stranger, raped and murdered. They do not need anyone to pass judgement on such decisions.

Yep, we all shy away from the horrible, despicable things that happened to Milly, but we are fortunate that we have our own children to hug even closer at the very thought of it. And MrsWhirling sadly I don't think for a moment that every detail has been released. I think that once pressed to confess, Bellfield will have revelled in revealing every last, awful moment of Milly's life.

The poor family HAD to release the information into the public domain because he had told a fellow prisoner in detail what he had done to Milly and it is likely the prisoner would have released this information. Better to come from Milly's parents than elaborated by some discusting "friend" of the fiend. I feel so so sorry for her parents and sister though. Not only have they suffered the loss of Milly and how she died but they have been thoroughly abused by the UK justice system and media. First they suffered the loss of their daughter and then they suffered the loss of their dignity and were put on trial by the UK justice system and media. Absolutely fucking disgraceful. I am so angry and upset for them.

MrsCampbellBlack · 10/02/2016 20:03

Just so awful. I read the headlines and have felt sick all afternoon. A truly evil man.

VagueIdeas · 10/02/2016 20:04

Excellent post Missy.

MissyMaker · 10/02/2016 20:16

Thank you Vague.

This is stupidly connected for me - for no reason other than I went to the same school as Milly (lots of years before) and I know exactly where she was abducted from so well. Since Milly's murder, I have gone on to have to have 2 daughters of my own and despite a heap load of shit happening in my own life, I cannot imagine for a moment just how difficult this must be for her family.

Earlier I googled what had happened during Bellfield's trial for Milly's murder. His defence team should be absolutely fucking ashamed of what they put her parents through. And then of course they had the press taping into their mobiles. And then they had to deal with the information about Milly's death that Bellfield decided to divulge. And now they get criticised for it? Angry is not the word.

Chippednailvarnish · 10/02/2016 20:24

I have no idea how the Dowlers have been so dignified.
At the parliamentary committee regarding the phone hacking, Milly's poor mother saying that due to the phone hackers she thought Milly was alive.

I will never buy another Murdoch paper and although I'm generally against the death penalty, for Bellfield I'd happily pull the leaver myself.

Owllady · 10/02/2016 20:29

Poor milly :( her whole family
It could have been anyone's daughter

bibbitybobbityyhat · 10/02/2016 20:41

I don't think anyone is criticising the Dowler family. Are they?

Feenie · 10/02/2016 20:50

What has he done to his own family though. His mother is still alive I believe. I couldn't possibly imagine what she might be feeling, however I think very close family members often shut their minds to things.

She apparently visits him every week, and considers all of it to be a huge miscarriage of justice. Allegedly. That could be bollocks - who knows. Sad

Hippahippahey · 10/02/2016 20:52

This has been on my mind all day. That poor family how they have the strength to carry on I don't know.

I think as other posters have mentioned this vile creature will be looking to appeal his sentence at some point in the future, this information being released today may help stop him being successful. There would be public outcry more so now these details are known.

His conversion to Islam is another way to seek attention. I don't agree with the death penalty in general but I don't see any reason for this thing to be kept alive and allowed to play his sick little games.

flippinada · 10/02/2016 20:58

I clicked on the news story, then wished I hadn't, because the details are so distressing.

Having said that, I completely understand the need to bear witness and I'm in the privileged position of being able to click away. The Dowlers have to live with it every single day.

I'm strongly against the death penalty myself but cases like this do test that.

GinAndSonic · 10/02/2016 21:05

I understand why they released the info, if they hadn't his cellmate would have sold it to the tabloids. Better that the details come in a dignified statement from those who loved her that splashed across the sun front page as an exclusive.
Poor Milly and her poor family, it's utterly horrific.

flippinada · 10/02/2016 21:08

Yes, that makes sense. And it means LB can't use this information to his advantage. Hopefully it's some small comfort that he will die in prison. Sooner rather than later, one would hope.

MrsWhirling · 10/02/2016 21:09

Missy - I didn't say every detail had been released? Or did I critisise them? I said it was their decision to make. I also said in my opinion is was too much. I am allowed my own opinion.

Scone1nSixtySeconds · 10/02/2016 21:11

Milly disappeared a couple of months after DD was born. I felt sick then, and now as my own DD gets closer to her age and the independence she needs, it makes me sick all over again.

I am thoroughly agnostic, but I hope there is a hell, and I hope that he suffers every torment that he can imagine.,

noblegiraffe · 10/02/2016 21:18

Milly's poor mother saying that due to the phone hackers she thought Milly was alive.

It turned out that the phone hacking had nothing to do with the deleting of voicemails that gave false hope. The messages were deleted automatically by her phone 72 hours after being listened to. The phone hackers behaved appallingly, but at least they weren't to blame for that.
www.theregister.co.uk/2011/12/12/notw_dowler_voicemail/

I can't bring myself to read the details of this case. I remember at the time when she went missing and being so upset when she was found, and that was before I had kids of my own.

MrsWhirling · 10/02/2016 21:31

My understanding is that Whilst the a News of the World didn't delete her voicemails, they did hack her phone and listen to them.

Chippednailvarnish · 10/02/2016 21:40

www.theguardian.com/media/2011/dec/10/statement-dowler-family-lawyer

I don't think the family believe that the NOTW are completely innocent of causing the voicemail deletion.

VagueIdeas · 10/02/2016 21:45

Sounds like you're right Feenie, and Bellfield's mother "doesn't believe a word" of the Dowlers' statement. Sad.

Stupid cow.

MissyMaker · 10/02/2016 21:50

The Dowler family are just average people. But something unimaginably awful happened to them. Perhaps, knowing that Bellfield had given details of Milly's murder to a cellmate, the family - for once - wanted to have control of when and how that information was shared. As I say again, it is their thing - they are at the centre of it, and can dump out just as much as they like. Everyone else should comfort in to them. This is a useful diagram to remember, whatever the situation of the person at the core of it...

You know, of course we're all allowed an opinion, but sometimes, for the sake of kindness and respect, it's not always best to share that on apublic forum.

I suppose its only natural to want to know what happened in your child's final hours but i'd be so upset to discover what actually did happen to her. To think he repeatadly raped her then she must have been so frightened the night before he killed her the next day. Awful. They really should bring back hanging for people who actually admit commiting these sorts of crimes against children. There is no place for people like that.
